I am looking into what it takes to add this functionality to gnome-
settings-daemon that already has support for screen orientation and a
certain type of accelerometer. If that does not work out without being
too intrusive we should look into making this into C as you suggest.

It is not an easy job sitting on a governance board. You're responsible
for evaluating the work of friends and, sometimes, co-workers. While
trying not to hurt feelings or block people's ability to do things, one
also has a responsibility to put personal feelings aside and to consider
the applications received in the context of the wider project.

We always try to be constructive when giving rejections, but it is a
difficult area that we will always be able to improve on. We never take
any decision lightly — especially not rejections — as we are aware of
the negativity they can generate. Most of us are readily available to
discuss and guide applicants. Please find us [1] on IRC if you have any
questions.

I appreciate that the job is not easy, your reply doesn't address the
concerns I raised in my initial email though. We still have a community
member who has been working full time on maintaining a difficult package
for 1.5+ years, got endorsement from 3 members, and he got rejected
mostly for "lack of devel releases" and an wrong assumption (no review)
... isn't the project just making the bar too high to join there?

The build log complained about the lack of the dkms file and I preferred
to revert the change before looking again into the problem so as to get
the packages at least to build again (they previously built only in
pbuilder, not in PPAs or in the archive).

This said, I thank you for your suggestion and I promise to try that soon.

Looking at the diff [1], the problem seems to have been a lack of a

hi,

i just uploaded http://paste.ubuntu.com/1555763/ which should do for
now, it would be great if someone could re-implement /usr/bin/acceld in
actual C .. polling like that from a shell script adds some CPU overhead
that we could avoid ...

feel free to fix up any glitches you see with the scripts

One option to extract some reporting information could be to extract
the content of the dmesg in a separate file and include only this in
the apport report.

makedumpfile has a --dump-dmesg option that can do that in a separate
pass. While this works well on Debian, it fails on Quantal so maybe
some more information might be needed in our kernel to achieve this.

Only a few more lines are required in /usr/sbin/kdump-config which is
part of the kdump-tools package. If this sounds reasonable, I will
investigate our kernel requirement so this can work on Ubuntu as well.

Any comment ?

Kind Regards,

...Louis

gpg key error when trying to add a PPA

2013-01-21 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
I keep getting this error when trying to add the ppa. I realized that my
key used to sign the CoC was the older one, with which LP created the
PPA. I have deactivated the old key and signed the CoC with my new key.
But how do I update the new key to the PPA?

rrs@zan:~/devel/Laptop-Mode-Tools/laptop-mode-tools (ubuntu)$ sudo
add-apt-repository ppa:rrs/laptop-mode-tools

You are about to add the following PPA to your system:
 PPA for Laptop Mode Tools

This PPA is created for the latest and greatest version of Laptop Mode
Tools. Please note that this PPA also ships a modified version of
pm-utils, where all overlapping features have been removed from the
pm-utils package.
So if you run into power related problems, do not just file a bug report
on Launchpad. Investigate first.

Use at your own risk.
