Re: Extended call for Ubuntu Technical Board candidates

2022-11-30 Thread Lukasz Zemczak
Hello everyone!

Some of you might already know me, but just in case: my name is Łukasz
Zemczak - also known as 'sil2100' [1] - and I am an official Ubuntu
member since 2014. Day-to-day I work from Canonical, joined in 2011,
and since around 2014-ish I have been part of the Ubuntu Foundations
Team. Since then I have been involved in many things Ubuntu
(...previously also Ubuntu Touch, yay landing team!), eventually
becoming part of many Ubuntu-specific teams and roles, which currently
would be: a Ubuntu Release member, SRU team member, DMB member,
Archive Admin and, for now, the Technical Board. The competition is
really impressive, but regardless, I'd like to try my chances and run
for a re-election on the TB.
I don't really know how to do good introductions for things like this,
so I'll just say: I love Ubuntu and I love working with everyone
involved in it as a whole. If you have any questions, feel free to
reach out to me via e-mail, IRC or any other means.

Thank you and see you around!

Introduction for UTB nomination

2022-11-30 Thread Ben Collins
Hello,

Just a quick introduction to those that don’t know me. I started with Debian
back in the late 90s. I served a term as Debian Project Leader. With Debian I
maintained the GNU C Library and dpkg, and also supported the original
Sparc/UltraSPARC port.

I started with Ubuntu in 2005 working for Canonical as the kernel maintainer,
up through early 2009. I’ve maintained my Core Developer status, helping to
keep the PowerPC port maintained until it was shelved in favor of the ppc64le
port.

Although I have not been able to work directly with Ubuntu in recent times, I
still work with it on a daily basis delivering custom network appliance
platforms that are built on Ubuntu as well as docker based scaling solutions
that also use Ubuntu as the core image.

Re: Extended call for Ubuntu Technical Board candidates

2022-11-30 Thread Lukas Märdian

Hi folks,

I'd like to briefly introduce myself for the Ubuntu Technical Board nomination!

My name is Lukas Märdian aka 'slyon' [0] I am 32 years old and based in Germany.
I joined Canonical in 2020 and have been working for the Ubuntu Foundations team
since then. People might know me from several "call-for-testing" around
NetworkManager [1][2] or from my work at the MIR team [3]. I've also been an
official Ubuntu Member and Core-Dev since December 2020 [4] (after using and
contributing to Ubuntu since high-school). I'm the maintainer for netplan.io
(upstream, as well as in Debian as a DM and in Ubuntu) and a co-maintainer for
Ubuntu's systemd package. (Yes, blame on me for those sd-oomd regressions!)

I feel like I'm a good consensus builder and have a deep technical understanding
of the Ubuntu ecosystem. After receiving recommendations from my peers to
nominate myself to the Technical Board, I decided to apply, as I'd like to help
keep steering Ubuntu into the right (technical) direction.

If there are any questions feel free to reach out!
Cheers,
  Lukas

Re: Extended call for Ubuntu Technical Board candidates

2022-11-30 Thread Simon Quigley

Hello,

My name is Simon Quigley, and I'm currently the Lubuntu Release Manager.
I have been an Ubuntu Member since February 2016 (about a month before I
turned 14 years old). I once held hats on the Ubuntu Membership Board,
Ubuntu Developer Membership Board, Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter, Kubuntu
Team, and a few others. In terms of upload rights, it looks like I
became a MOTU at about August 2017, applying for Ubuntu Core Developer a
year afterwards. Also worth noting, I have been a Debian Developer since
November 2018.

I love Ubuntu, the community and development side, and would be honored
to serve on the Ubuntu Technical Board.

Re: Extended call for Ubuntu Technical Board candidates

2022-11-30 Thread Alex Murray
Hi folks,

I'm Alex Murray (alexmurray on Launchpad/amurray on IRC) and have been a
part of the Ubuntu community as a long-time user and enthusiast since
back in 2006. In 2018 I was privileged to join Canonical as the Ubuntu
Security Tech Lead and have worked as part of that amazing team ever
since. I have a passion for making Ubuntu as secure *and* usable
out-of-the-box whilst also ensuring Canonical has a great relationship
with our community.

I started and am still hosting the Ubuntu Security Podcast nearly every
week for the last 4 years as a way to evangelise the awesome work of the
Ubuntu Security team and the various security aspects of Ubuntu.

I am also involved with security aspects of snapd and as one of the snap
store reviewers to help guide snap publishers to make sure their snaps
can work as smoothly as possible for their users.

Finally, I've been a core-dev for a year and a half now as well.

I am really passionate about Ubuntu and helping to ensure that everyone
can benefit from it whilst also being as secure as possible in the
process.

One final aspect to mention here is that as an Australian, the current
team meeting time of the Tech Board (20:00 in London) is likely to be a
challenge for me for at least for half of the year once DST ends here +
starts in the UK. I realise that part of the criteria for
application/membership of the TB is to be able to make the existing
meeting time. However, I hope that if elected I could work with the
other TB members to try and find something that may work better for all
- whether alternating meeting times or shifting it during DST etc - so
that we can be inclusive for TB members no matter where in the world
they are located.

Thanks for your consideration, more than happy to answer any questions
anyone may have for me.

Cheers,
Alex
