I don't find any issues. But Fedora enables this configure option.
It may have potential issue.

Yes, this issue is already fixed.

Mozc is now update to the newest one. So these issues are fixed.

Hi,

Hey,

Sorry that this email didn't get any reply during that time, I just
noticed it again after your recent post about the other issue.

1. IBus
* ibus-541492-xkb.patch provides "--enable-libgnomekbd" option, but it
   doesn't enable in debian/rules.
* make check is always fail, so it should be fix.
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/146997767/ibus_1.5.3-0ubuntu2~ppa1_1.5.3-0ubuntu2~ppa2.diff.gz

Is that still an issue? Is there a bug open about it? Why do we need to
use libgnomekbd?

2. IBus-Anthy
* ibus-anthy 1.5.3-1 doesn't work. But it already fix by Mitsuya.
This issue originally fixed by me.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+source/ibus-anthy/1.5.3-2

Seems like that one got resolved, right?

3. Mozc
* Mozc 1.6.1187.102 is too old for IBus 1.5. So upsteam author fixes two issues.
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/146264796/mozc_1.6.1187.102-1build1_1.6.1187.102-1ubuntu1~ppa1.diff.gz

And Mozc has several tools like config dialog, dictionary tool and so on.
But indicator-keyboard cannot start these tools. Of course gnome-shell can do.
http://twitpic.com/da8bg4
Any idea?

Is that still an issue as well? Could you open a bug report describing
the problem and added you patch, then subscribe ubuntu-sponsors to the bug?

Hey,

Thanks for pointing that issue out.

I've commented on the bug, basically it seems to make sense to drop that
git backport, since it was made with an assumption that a new tool would
provide the feature, which is wrong in saucy.

I'm going to upload that later today, but I would still welcome
input/comments from ibus/ims users if you anyone has concerns about that
change or better suggestions.

I don't think it makes sense to have specific installer UI for it. We
should be able to DWIM by looking at the keyboard layout and whether any
input methods are configured.

I basically agree with Steve. But maybe we could add an installation
checkbox option in the installer, something among the lines of: "Enable
IBus input methods on autostart for all users"? We could give some nice
explanation there on why this could be important for asian-language
users etc. Maybe even have the checkbox checked by default when the user
selects specific languages that might need it.

Does this imply that ibus-daemon will be running for users who have no need
of its input methods? This doesn't sound like a good idea to me. We
should be using upstart to *reduce* the number of persistent services
running when they don't need to, by only starting them in cases / for
contexts where they will really be used.

The new ibus stack and indicator-keyboard are ready for testing in
ppa:ubuntu-desktop/ppa. If you are using Unity, please manually
install indicator-keyboard as we haven't set up the metapackages to
depend on it yet.

The new shortcut to switch keyboard layouts is Super+Space (this is
now the default in ibus, GNOME 3.8 and Windows 8). At this time, Unity
doesn't handle that keyboard shortcut properly ( http://pad.lv/1201679
). As a workaround, you can use Shift+Super+Space to switch keyboard
layouts backwards.

We are considering having ibus-daemon autostart for everyone, probably
using an upstart user session. This should help ensure that alternate
input methods just work without needing to enable an option and log
out first. http://pad.lv/1194138

Please let us know if the upgrade causes any new issues so we can deal
with regressions before uploading to Saucy directly. It would help if
someone could check the other desktop flavors (Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc.)
too.

Thanks,
Jeremy

+1 for Ubuntu GNOME. input switching has been broken in gnome-shell since 3.6,

+1 for me. I have been struggling with some python issues when fixing
ibus autopilot tests in Unity/Nux, which have been fixed in 1.5
basically. This could make some things potentially easier.

Update ibus to 1.5 in saucy?

2013-07-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher

Hey everyone,

Updating ibus to 1.5 has been discussed for some cycles, and (afaik) we
have been holding on the update because:

- the new version had some issues (some bugs, problems with settings
migration, some features dropped like "im by windows" (which got added
back since it seems), ...)

- Debian didn't update yet
- to get proper GNOME/Unity support for ibus 1.5 we need g-s-d/g-c-c
3.6, or our current keyboard indicator was built on code going away ...
we needed somebody with cycles to write a proper indicator

Since the situation improved:
- the new ibus is out for a while, bugs got fixed
- we updated GNOME (while reverting the keyboard code to the old version
since that needs to be upgraded with ibus)
- we got a proper keyboard indicator:
https://launchpad.net/indicator-keyboard

Since most of the blockers have been resolved it seems like this cycle
is a good time to do the update (especially if next cycle is a LTS,
better to sort out issues one cycle in advance).

Before doing the update I wanted to check if anyone has an opinion on
the update (we don't have so many ibus users in the desktop team which
means we might be overlooking issues) and if the upgrade is fine for the
other flavors.

(We are going to push the new stack in the ubuntu-desktop ppa in the
next days, for extra testing, and will keep the list updated when that
happens)

Thanks for reading,
Sebastien Bacher
