Asking the user to mount a device

2009-09-07 Thread Brennan Vincent
Hello,

I have two partitions on my hard drive: one containing Ubuntu and the
other containing Vista. The Vista partition is called "OS". It is not
mounted on boot, but it appears in the Gnome "Places" menu. When
clicked, the user is asked to grant root privileges in order to mount
the device in the proper place (/media/OS).

My question is: what is the mechanism for this? How does the system
know which drives should be mounted where so that it can populate that
menu and mount them when the user tries to access? Where are the
relevant configuration files?

I ask because I would like to write a patch for Banshee that would try
to do a similar thing when songs in the music library can't be found
because the device they are on has not been mounted.

I'm sorry if this is a Gnome issue. I wasn't sure if it was an
Ubuntu-specific feature and I wasn't sure where to post.

Any suggestions are welcome.
Brennan Vincent

Thanks for the reply, Dave. That information will surely be useful in
the future. :-D

Might it be good to have a commented-out line in the
generated /etc/resolv.conf stating something to that effect? I think it
would be a good general rule to do this with any editable file in /etc/
(Editable Text Configuration...) that would normally be clobbered by
such a thing after an edit. Any thoughts on that?

As i recall the person that started the package "was"
maintaining it. However the name escapes me atm. It should be
found in package, there should be a changelog for the package :)

I was just looking at this.

The issue is the zope3 was split, but we haven't completed the migration by
promoting the split packages and removing the monlithic one.

When I uploaded lazr.restfulclient I took the package in main, but other
things coming from Debian are either using alternative dependencies or
the new name.

I plan to fix this up today with removals, promotions and uploads so
that we have a consistent installable set while keeping the components
self-contained.

Thanks,

James

Bug in GtkTextView Applications

2009-09-07 Thread Heroid Shehu
This problem occurres everytime you repeat the characters ([, ], (, ),
{, }, ;, :, ,, ., !, ?, ¡, ¿, /, ' ' (space) and — (em dash)) enough
times to cause the evoking of a line break, the GtkTextView does not
wrap them.

Although this functionality is beneficial in sane environments where the above
characters are not expected to be repeated more than three times, applications
that use GtkTextView in an environment where wrapping is preferred
such as in (Pidgin, IRC clients, etc.) they have their windows either
stretched—occasionally beyond the size of the screen—or a horizontal
scrollbar appears, which then requires the user to scroll to read
text, this bug happens to many people, and we want to fix it that's
why we need you're help.

python-zopeinterface - apparent dependency resolution error

2009-09-07 Thread Matt Zimmerman
Did anyone else see this recently in Karmic? python-apport wouldn't upgrade
automatically due to a chain of dependency weirdness which led to
python-zopeinterface and python-zope.interface.

q: development status of procmail

2009-09-07 Thread Peter Jakobi
Hi,

I'd like to know the current development status of procmail, as I
hadn't much luck in reporting a regex bug recently. Is there still a
live upstream or is the historic procmail.org all that remains?

Thanx for an update on this issue,
Peter

FIY: Background:

With a the perceived lack of development and maintenance I'm also a
quite a bit concerned about say UTF8, which was way less of a topic in
era 2001, but is increasing and matching against encoded header
strings in utf8 might become more than just nice-to-have.

(And NO: restriciting matching in classic procmail recipe fashion to
ascii is increasingly insufficient: e.g. allow for just a measly half
a dirty dozen of umlauts. Quoted is bad enough, but the mailer might
choose to encode the entire header. The only thing that's worse is
chars above 0x80 in headers and body and no sender-provided indication
at all for either latin or UTF8 And umlauts nicely differ in utf8
vs latin; and there's enough Asian full UTF8 spam around to _not_ add
recipes trying to outguess bad senders in order to auto-decode UTF8)
