Did anything come from the idea to split winbind into windows specific

Ok, be sure to use the same flags used by fsck.ext3 as they translate to

If it is ever submitted by the kqeumu maintainer and passes the code
quality, style long term maintenance review, then it will go in, yes.

Until then it will be up to everyone else to put it in, whether that is
an individual or organization like Ubuntu.

Yes, *you* may know that, but many regular users don't.

It is a big deal only because of the sheer volume of support requests
repositories like this generate to ubuntu.

I'm trying to find a link to an official ubuntu statement about people
recommending 3rd party repositories and where support requests should be
directed afterward. If anyone can provide this link I'd appreciate it.

I find that these settings work well for me in gconf-editor for nautilus:

* set default view to list
* do not group directories together
* sort by modified date with newest at the top

This is great for me since most of the time I'm working with recently
modified files and if I'm looking for something else I can just start
typing a prefix and find what I'm looking for in short order.

I'm not advocating UVF, but very few new feature specs going into LTS
releases. If it's already in upstream (Debian or upstream-upstream --
the individual projects) and it is ready for prime time, then by all
means put it in a LTS release.

For instance Java with the Sun JVM 5 or 6 isn't working for me with
azureus in Edgy and there seems to be a version mismatch of the gtk-java
packages:

From what I saw in the 2007 LCA Video there are patches for cups to use
avahi, and it is a generic framework for service advertisement and
discovery. Think open source zeroconf.

I'm mostly asking about snmp support to see if it will give us instant
interoperability with other systems that scan for printers via snmp. If
so, snmp in cups and avahi both at the same time is probably a good idea.

AFAIK LTS releases are every 18 months, so Dapper+3.

I'd rather get a new feature in before a LTS release if possible to
allow people bang on it harder (or even accidentally) to be better
prepared for the LTS release.

How does this relate to using avahi for printer discovery? Are there
any other systems that use snmp for printer discovery where using snmp
will make them "just work" also?

If the snmp backend for cups does get activated, Feisty is probably
better than Feisty+1 LTS because we probably don't want to add a lot of
new features in a LTS release cycle. Instead focus should be on bug
fixing and polish instead of new features.

Speaking of that, what does everyone think of making it policy to
feature freeze during *all* LTS release cycles? This way new features
are only developed in non-LTS releases and have more time to mature
before the next LTS release.

If you look at it one way, it is a usability issue. I do not think
passwordless accounts should come anywhere near the word "default" but
they do have their place.

"25 seconds until Guest is automatically logged in... 24 seconds... 23
seconds..."

Used as a kiosk and similar scenario it is a valid use. Personal data
and security are concerns in this case, but not enough to block this use
case and having warnings on the desktop and in apps that send data
(browser forms and similar -- "Guest user, not secure") and slow
oscillating background brightness can be used to alert against using
this account for anything where privacy is a concern.
