Hi
I downloaded 9.04 beta last night, i386 version.
I've just tried on a Dell machine, as a live cd , not much good as it
only starts in low res mode..
When installed it got as far as starting X, then failed with:-
"failed to pin front buffer: could not allocate memory"
"fatal server error
Couldn't bind memory to BO front buffer.
From the log the graphics controller is Intel 82865G, and the problem
occurred after loading the 865G module. Of course nothing editable to
get around it as I didn't have root privileges to edit the xorg.conf file.

Is this a known bug or do I file a new bug report ?

jaunty DVD

2009-03-31 Thread richard.b...@blueyonder.co.uk
Hi
I need to put linux on a machine at work, the internet link is very
slow, so I'd prefer to load 90% off a DVD and just pull down one
package. Also my boss is a bit paranoid about linux, so the least I use
the network the better. Is there a DVD image lurking any where, pref
jaunty, but intrepid would do.

TIA

Examples of aps thatneed to use CAB.
Some of the gnome card games which go full screen, and when you try to
return to a normal display it wont.
Now try explaining to a total novice how to use CAF1, then log in, and
then find the process and kill it.
Kaffeine will occasionall refuse to go back to a normal display as well,
its much easier to tell someone on the phone to use CAB and login again,
and a lot safer.

BTW who desided that .gvfs had super root status ?, you can no longer
as root do a chown -R on your home directory.
