Alpha-1 had the problem after installing and booting the first time. I can boot to GDM in VMWare, but as soon as I enter my username and password, I get a brown screen and the system freezes. The VMWare process on the host red-lines the host CPU.. I've tried logging in after disabling all services in /etc/xdg/autostart - to no avail. I've also tried disabling Nautilus from starting up, but it hasn't made any difference. I've tried monitoring top on the virtual machine from the host machine over SSH as I log in, to see if I can spot which process is hogging the CPU. The SSH session appears to freeze as soon as I attempt to log in though, and top is never updated with new values. Re: Cannot boot alpha-1
I installed Hardy in VirtualBox and then upgraded to alpha-1. I haven't had any problems. My kernel is currently 2.6.26-2. Guest Additions also seem to work normally. But is the bug in VMWare/VirtualBox (unable to handle > the new kernel) or is it some regression in kernel 2.6.25? It isn't a kernel bug - I can boot and get the gdm login in a VMware workstation VM running intrepid i386 Ubuntu, but after I enter my user/password, the GUI hangs with the brown screen. I have tested kubuntu Intrepid alpha 1 and had no issues booting or logging in to the GUI. This suggests that there is a bug with the version of Gnome that is packaged for intrepid alpha 1, when run in a VM. It seems your installation has started on 2.6.24 and then been upgraded. I there anyone who has done a successfull install & boot using alpha-1? Was there a 2.6.25? I tracked Intrepid since before the Alpha, and only have 2.6.24-16, 2.6.24-18, and 2.6.26-2 installed, but I didn't update every day. Cannot boot alpha-1
Hello I'm not sure if this is a bug in Intrepid or in VirtualBox. I installed Intrepid Alpha 1 on VirtualBox 1.6.2 but after the install it cannot boot. I get this error: BUG: unable to handle kernel BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0024 https://xyz.pp.se/~thnov/up/Screenshot-Intrepid%20Ibex%20%5BRunning%5D% 20-%20Sun%20xVM%20VirtualBox.png Should this be filed as a bug or is it something known that will be fixed later on anyways?
