I never install Eclipse from the repositories, because it's always a significantly older version. I simply download it from eclipse.org directly and install it in my /opt folder. Updating eclipse is a lot of work because a lot of Java packages need to be updated in coordination with each other. See https://bugs.debian.org/681726 where help is requested.
