I think the best way to try Unity8 at the moment is to:
- setup Xenial 16.04
- install unity8-desktop-session-mir

and then ask on IRC if you still can't get it to boot

Hope that helps,
Andrea

Re: UI Changes?

2016-02-23 Thread agents4je...@gmail.com

I ran
sudo apt-get install unity8 -y

It finished, but I can't seem to find a way to run it or make it default.

If the UI could change to a more "flat" look (even if the grey

You might want to give Unity8 a try :)

Also, the top bar that says "Ubuntu Desktop": I've tweaked it
using unity tweak tool to make it transparent (with blur). It
makes the OS look a lot more polished...except the menus are grey.

If the whole UI could be tweaked just a little bit ("flattened" in
some places, transparent in others), that would be really awesome.

I believe that the UI is due for a change anyway. It's been what?
Three years?

I'm not sure how hard this would be, I'm an Android developer, not
a Linux developer, but I think if the default theme was tweaked,
it wouldn't be all that hard...

Re: UI Changes?

2016-02-22 Thread Ryein Goddard

I recommend installing
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:numix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install numix-icon-theme-shine numix-icon-theme-circle

Then just use Unity Tweak to change the appearance.

It would be nice if the look was more varied, but I think they went with
the OSX approach in that it has a light and darkish theme.

There's now a config option in the System Settings, I have no clue what
the default is. Search for launcher menus

Late-cycle UI changes and Documentation

2011-04-11 Thread Jim Campbell
Hi All,

I'm working on system docs for 11.04, and am noticing some late UI changes.
For example, with today's updates, I noticed that you can display the
Launcher just by pressing your mouse against the far left side of the
screen. Previously, I had to move my mouse the top corner. Other UI changes
might not be as easy for me to notice, though.

Is it feasible for the docs team to be notified of such changes? With GNOME,
the docs team is notified of all post-ui-freeze UI changes (actually, two
release managers and someone from the docs team needs to sign-off on the
changes after a certain point). It makes it much easier to keep track of
what is changing, and what needs to be updated in the docs.

Thanks for your consideration,

Jim

PS. Yes, I know the docs are in a not-so-great state for Natty, but we are
working on them, and I think people will be pleasantly surprised at how
they've improved once they are done. Check out: bzr branch
lp:~ubuntu-core-doc/gnome-user-docs/natty-unity
Then do yelp gnome-help/C/ (without the quotes) from within that branch to
see the current state.

Don't ask me, I just work here. : /

My point isn't about this particular feature. It's about being notified
about UI changes so that anyone who works on the docs can make sure they are
as accurate as possible.
