Re: 18.04: Ubuntu GNOME --> Ubuntu ?
That's actually a good point. Shame it's so difficult to get real values of our user base to get proper statistics. Re: 18.04: Ubuntu GNOME --> Ubuntu ?
I think it's far too early to guess just how Ubuntu will end up packaging GNOME. Some options/questions: 1) plain vanilla defaults? 2) with a special Ambience theme? 3) with special extensions? 4) Wayland as the default session? Depending on these choices, Ubuntu GNOME may or may not be worth pursuing as a separate flavor. All I know for sure is that interest in the Ubuntu GNOME flavor is going to skyrocket as many users will prefer to switch ASAP rather than stay with a UI that they know is going to be phased out. :) -- Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome

Before there was Ubuntu GNOME, there was https://piware.de/2009/02/the-stracciatella-gnome-session/ No matter what happens, there will still be a need to package the parts of GNOME that Canonical isn't focused on. Package dependencies from Ubuntu Desktop, Unity and more that, even if it is GNOME, are going to force users certain packages on their system. Would be _funny_ if both co-exist and Ubuntu GNOME is better than Ubuntu default out-of-the-box. When was their release? Re: 18.04: Ubuntu GNOME --> Ubuntu ?
Hi, I personnally love the fact that Ubuntu GNOME is almost the upstream GNOME, and not a custom version with lots of extensions and modifications. I really fear that Canonical will not settle on upstream GNOME, at all. So, in this case, we might still need Ubuntu GNOME. By the way, that might even be bad news for Ubuntu GNOME because when Canonical moved away from GNOME, they also stopped breaking GNOME, but they might go back to their bad habits, and it might become very hard to have a proper Ubuntu GNOME without their patches... I hope I'm wrong though. It looks like that. Ubuntu 18.04 desktop will be gnome according to Mark Shuttleworth. Is that a "late april's fool" ??? or is it serious ??? 2017-04-05 15:24 GMT-04:00 Paul Smith : > So, does Mark Shuttleworth's latest announcement mean that as of Ubuntu > 18.04 there won't be a need for Ubuntu GNOME anymore, and it will just > be Ubuntu? > > Not suggesting anyone actually knows the answer to this, just posing > the question out into the universe... > > https://insights.ubuntu.com/2017/04/05/growing-ubuntu-for- > cloud-and-iot-rather-than-phone-and-convergence/ > > > -- > Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list > Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com > Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/ > mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome > -- - Bernard Tremblay tremblay.bern...@gmail.com R: (418) 658-1411 C: (581) 988-1411 - Le but de Linux est de gérer vos ressources et faire le travail, le but des OS propriétaire est de vous vendre d'autres licences... -- Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome

18.04: Ubuntu GNOME --> Ubuntu ?
So, does Mark Shuttleworth's latest announcement mean that as of Ubuntu 18.04 there won't be a need for Ubuntu GNOME anymore, and it will just be Ubuntu? Not suggesting anyone actually knows the answer to this, just posing the question out into the universe... https://insights.ubuntu.com/2017/04/05/growing-ubuntu-for-cloud-and-iot-rather-than-phone-and-convergence/ -- Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome
