Re: Gnome 3.10 in 13.10 ?

2013-09-07 Thread Alfredo Hernández
In 13.04 I have used it since the fresh install and I haven't experienced
any issue.
Using it or not is at your will.

Lots of extensions are already updated, AFAIK.

extension developers upgrade to the new API (even if most of the time it's
only about adding 3.10 in metadata.json...).

Re: Gnome 3.10 in 13.10 ?

2013-09-07 Thread Alfredo Hernández
I really think this last thing is a thing of routine. It's all about
getting used to it. I'm sure someone will come up with an extension to
revert to the old distribution.

Last thing: I really don't like the icons merge on the upper right of the
desktop. That totally counter productive cuz now I can't easly access to
sound options or change screen brightness quickly with scroll without any
click... They really should let user to choice between merge or no merge.

Anyway I know this is a gnome team choice and it is nothing to do with you
guys but I just wanted to let you know :-D

Ok. I just tried ppa staging on 13.10 and gnome seems to work fine BUT
none extensions are working. I guess only because 3.9.91 (actual dev
3.10 version) are not in metadata.json of extensions. I could change it
manually and try extensions one by one but I didnt want to... So I purge
ppa staging and I am know back to initial Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 with gnome3
 ppa.

So I ask again: will Ubuntu Gnome team planned to switch from 3.8 to 3.10
 in stable gnome3 ppa ?

PS: take care if you purge ppa staging on 13.10, ubuntu-gnome-desktop and
network-manager was removed during purge... I had to manually setup a wired
connection on console to be able to reinstall these two packages.

So, if you enable gnome3 and stacking, you won't have stable packages from
3.10, right? Just 3.8 and unstable 3.10...

The plan for the saucy cycle is
*gnome3* ppa - 3.8 bits that missing from Saucy
*gnome3-next* ppa - This is a new one, that will contain the stable 3.10
bits. Its Empty right now, but will start copying packages into here once
they are ready, which should be quite soon.
*gnome3-staging* ppa - As usual, 3.10 bits that still need more testing
 or have known bugs/regressions.

Re: Gnome 3.10 for 13.10?

2013-08-03 Thread Alfredo Hernández
I don't know what are the plans, but you can be sure that 3.10 will be at
least in the gnome3-team repositories.

About Ubuntu, as always, they will probably use some software pieces using
3.6, some using 3.8 and some 3.10.

Regards.

 Hi

I am Christian, long-time contributor to the GNOME project and user of
 Ubuntu since its debut.
Running the current alpha in a virtual machine, I see it uses GNOME 3.8
and wonder if there are plans to go for GNOME 3.10 with the 13.10
 release.
I took a look at how basic packaging works and might get involved there.
I wonder how collaboration with Debian and upstream Ubuntu works.

As GNOME is no more the default Ubuntu desktop, I suppose Ubuntu will
 use GNOME 3.6 or 3.8.
