Thank you for your interest. The Ubuntu Slack was an experiment and
has not really been used in months, so I don't think it would be
useful to send you an invite now. :(

Hey Aidan,
If you want to get involved in the development team, come hang out in
#ubuntu-gnome on IRC. There are a bunch of people in there that can help
you get up to speed on packaging, though some of us are in Australia on an
obscure timezone ;)

As to your language question in you profile:
Core GNOME is mostly C
some apps use vala, that is pretty similar to C#
gnome-shell and a few other apps use Javascript
A lot of the distro stuff, ubuntu/debian tools etc are python

Current work items for Wily are here:

not an IT guy, I am a law student and intend to become prosecutor.
But always loved technology. (I studied two years of computer science in
 the past).
I was using Ubuntu with Unity but I was not satisfied. When I met and
decided to install Ubuntu GNOME, I was really happy with my computer.
Now, I want to help the community grow, I intend to work with
 translations and marketing.

The good news is: you don't have to be an IT guy nor a developer to help
Ubuntu GNOME :)

There are 9 areas you could help with:

And these are the needed roles for this cycle:

And I guess you made the right choice by choosing Marketing and
Translations ;)

 So, that's it.
Thanks for keeping great Ubuntu GNOME.

It is great because of the users so thank you!

Hello guys!

2014-09-24 Thread Bin Li
Hi,

I'm binli, from Beijing China, I want join Ubuntu GNOME Team, I would like
do packaging, developing and coding. After review the GettingInvolved wiki,
I'm still have a little confuse how to start. Now I have several questions,
:)

I used utopic's beta2 for ubuntu GNOME, it's running perfect now.

1) Which ppa did utopic use, gnome3, gnome3-staging, gnome3-next?
2) Where is code? I find last change in
https://code.launchpad.net/~gnome3-team is 2013-09-09.
3) How was the ubuntu-gnome image built?
4) GNOME 3.14 was just released, how could I tried it on ubuntu-gnome?
5) I reviewed some bugs from launchpad, find most bugs are from 14.04, most
of bugs is no response, is there any rule to fix bugs?
6) Which is the focus of ubuntu gnome packaging or developing team now? I
just want to find if I could do some contribution on it. :)

For more information of me, please visit below link.

Thanks for your time!

Sincerely Yours,

Bin Li

Hello to Ubuntu GNOME. With the start of the new year, I'd like to
make new starts as well. I have been using Ubuntu Linux since April
2012 when I made the switch to Ubuntu 12.04LTS after my Win machine
died. Prior to that I was a simple daily computer user. After
installing Ubuntu 12.04, I embraced Ubuntu Linux and FOSS and never
looked back. I started using Lubuntu on other machines in April of
2013 and had a chance to both learn a lot and work with great
folks, including Ali. After testing Ubuntu GNOME in a VM, I was so
impressed with it that I contacted Ali and switched two of my three
machines to Ubuntu GNOME 13.10.
My professional work/education is in the biological sciences and
macroeconomicsnot computers. I consider myself as comfortable with
the CLI as with the GUI but I am still learning. My hope is to join

 Hello to Ubuntu GNOME.

What a nice surprise :D look who is here :) didn't I tell you that we shall
meet again and work on the same project? I was right :P

Welcome to our mailing list and your family, my friend :)

With the start of the new year, I'd like to
 make new starts as well.

What a great start, you did the right thing :D

I have been using Ubuntu Linux since April
2012 when I made the switch to Ubuntu 12.04LTS after my Win machine
died. Prior to that I was a simple daily computer user. After
installing Ubuntu 12.04, I embraced Ubuntu Linux and FOSS and never
 looked back.

No wonder it died, I guess I know the reason :P Nuh, Windows is not too
bad, it just can't really beat Linux :D

I started using Lubuntu on other machines in April of
2013 and had a chance to both learn a lot and work with great
 folks,including Ali.

That is too much for me and I don't deserve that. I am just a contributor
with endless passion and love to Linux. Thank you for your kind words. And,
the pleasure is mine. Working as a volunteer to FOSS Communities gave me
many good friends that I am glad to have!

After testing Ubuntu GNOME in a VM, I was so
impressed with it that I contacted Ali and switched two of my three
 machines to Ubuntu GNOME 13.10.

Thank you so much for choosing and using Ubuntu GNOME and we are glad to
have you here and welcome you with wide open arms :)

My professional work/education is in the biological sciences and
 macroeconomicsnot computers.

As long as you have the passion to Linux, eager to learn, motivated and
willing to explore new stuff, you are on the right path no matter what is
your background :)

I consider myself as comfortable with
the CLI as with the GUI but I am still learning.

We are all learning :)

 My hope is to join
the Ubuntu GNOME community, contribute where/when I can, share what
knowledge I have learned, and to help bring new and interested user to
 Ubuntu GNOME.

You did join already so welcome :)

You are lucky that I just finished from this page last night:

You might be the first new member to our family who will go through it :D
Choose the area you prefer, my friend and enjoy your new experience here!
