Hello Patrik,

Thanks a million for beating me to it. You brought a highly important topic
to the discussion ;)

You beat me to it to bring it here. I beat you to it by doing this:

http://summit.ubuntu.com/uos-1411/meeting/22335/howto-to-use-your-skills-and-experience-to-find-a-job/

Join this session - date and time not yet confirmed as my time is +11 GMT
now and I need to find a good time for me to host the session - or if you
can't join in real time, you can refer to the YouTube Channel. There is a
valid reason why I proposed this session and it is approved. It is just the
time that will be confirmed and the exact date.

If you take a look at my Wiki:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/amjjawad

I tried to list all my contributions for the last 4 years. Yet, I still
can't really list everything. This is just 75% from what I did or maybe
less. Point is, you do need a Wiki Page and you do need a Linkedin Account
and an updated CV.

You don't need any kind of permission to have a Wiki Page or add that to
your CV. If you ask me, NO QUESTION YOU MUST ADD that to your CV :D

I guess if my session at the UOS will be successful, this should bring lots
of volunteers to not only Ubuntu GNOME but many other projects as well.

While we are a community project and we have no company or whatsoever, if
anyone who is part of Ubuntu GNOME and he/she has visible and well-know
contributions, I am MORE than happy to vouch for them. You can find my
contacts on my Wiki Page and you guys have my emails. If this vouch will be
helpful, I will not be late.

As well as wiki page testimonials, ubuntu members receive a certificate
which can be added to a CV.

Oh, yeah. Generally we use the wiki page for vouching purposes in the form
of testimonials (see my page, for instance: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/aldomann
or Ali's one: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/amjjawad#Testimonials).

I believe this is pretty standard, and given the nature of open source
projects the best way to do it.

Suggestion: vouch for your volunteers

2014-11-05 Thread Patrik Bubák
Maybe this has been proposed and maybe it's blunt obvious, still I need
to ask,

would it be possible to make this official for those who contribute so
they can publish their contribution in their CV and boost their chances
of landing a job and in case a future employer would want to dig up more
info to vouch for them?

This couldbring in many new volunteers as well as startle the motivation
of existing contributors granted they could include the Ubuntu GNOME
project into their CV and have it legitimized.

Personally I think it's rather interesting to have it as part of one's
resume because when an employer contacts the Ubuntu GNOME board of
directors it would be backed up properly, helping out an individual to
land a position.

Then people would perhaps spend even more time on the project because
they would boost their own chances for a successful future career.

A win-win for everyone.
