Why?!
Hi, I read on this list Ali's calling and try to answer, despite my lousy english. In a nutshell, for me it is the language barrier that hinders me in full comprehensive test results reported. If I do that, then usually by mail to the relevant list. error reporting in the relevant launchpad bugtracker or where it belongs. Otherwise i feel like Steve Ovens. I use primarily LTS and STS only look at me in a virtual environment (VMWareplayer) to test to order. If I find errors, I report that too Bugtracker (GNOME) or Launchpad. So, now my feedback to 10.14 Beta2; I installed Ubuntu-GNOME 14.10 Beta 2 in a virtual environment and could not fail during the installation set firmly. Otherwise, this version is stable. Even though it might not look like it to test some read more like on this list. They help to support the project. Only it's at least from a German perspective seen some users like me. You have difficulties with the English language and therefore avoid it on mailing lists (etc) to show that they have problems with the language. Nevertheless, I am confident, try and use this excellent derivative users: Ubuntu-GNOME like and are glad that there is this project. ;-) You are all here doing a very good job! Many thanks for this and keep it up! :-) Greetings from germany, -- Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome

Been running 14.10 betas for a while now without really substantial issues (apart from hamster-extension being not available for current gnome-shell it seems). Can't say so much about the installer, though, as I use it way longer than I actually install it, and lack the time for doing additional VM based installer testings to be honest... :( Cheers, Kristian -- “People are strange: They are constantly angered by trivial things, but on a major matter like totally wasting their lives, they hardly seem to notice.” (Charles Bukowski) -- Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome

Re: Why?!
For myself, I have a vm that tracks the newest release but mostly for package building. I dont really have a machine that is a daily machine that I can work through some of the bugs with. I have 2 work laptops and my main desktop for machines that I use daily that I cant really afford to have strange bugs. They go LTS to LTS. I am sorry that things are not going well, but from my perspective, I still file bugs as I come across them and things have been pretty well received. Don't lose heart! I completed this ISO testing last night: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/325/builds/82004/testcases/1451/results I started with testing on Friday and came across a bug[1] in test drive using KVM, and as such got side-tracked and burnt two hours before realising someone had fixed it already and the code was waiting to be reviewed (bundled with other fixes). Please keep this in mind for delays in testing. Just a tip for those using testdrive, please use the GUI interface and not the command line as KVM VM's seem to freeze (maybe just on my hardware) after a successful install at unmounting crypto disks, which I would have marked the test as failed if I didn't decide to try the test again with Virtualbox. Also the default hard drive size set in testdrive is incorrect and should be pushed up to 8GB as 6GB is not enough for testing (6.5GB required) if running from the command line. First time application use and finding out how it works can also be attributed to testing delays. Regarding packaging and bug fixing documentation, as a first time user I found myself all over the place and then backtracking in the wiki, updating a few small things along the way and continuing on. As you know this takes time as well as installing the required tools. Not really for testing, but if you get sidetracked, this could also delay testing. For the test I did how can we get some momentum on that specific bug[2]? And finally, I've been very keen to help out with Ubuntu Gnome since I switched over to it in Feb this year, but had very little free time. Please let me know where you need the most assistance. I am keen to do testing, bug reporting as well as triaging, coding, packaging and documentation. Yes, that's quite a bit to take on but I will do it one step at a time ;) Keep well and don't be to discouraged about the current state of testing, I'm sure that things will get better as the user base for Ubuntu Gnome increases. By the way I've been using Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 since beta 2 and had no problems both at work and at home, so I'm hoping that makes you feel better :) [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/testdrive/+bug/1297377 [2] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1362333 -- All the best, Bruce FSF Member 10674 / The FSF is a charity with a worldwide mission to advance software freedom / Join the Free Software Foundation: http://www.fsf.org/register_form?referrer=10674 -- Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome
Re: Why?!
Hi Ali, I've been an Ubuntu (and now Ubuntu-GNOME) tester since the very beginning. I only test by using the unstable version and updating it every day. Whenever I find a bug, I report it immediately, and I've been doing so for years. However, I have noticed that, since around the beginning of the development of Unity, Ubuntu developers have started totally ignoring any GNOME-related bug. This is pretty depressing and there are tons of bugs on Launchpad where you can read comments from lots of people absolutely pissed off by the lack of interest from Ubuntu developers. I have now come to the conclusion that there is absolutely no hope of ever seeing Ubuntu developers fixing any GNOME-related bug in the future, and I encourage whoever is interested in GNOME to switch to Debian because Canonical employees have been pretty much boycotting GNOME for years now and this is not about to change. Voilà, I'm sorry if my post sounds bad, but it just reflects the current reality... PS: I'm still reporting bugs in Launchpad *and* GNOME's Bugzilla anyway... Re: Why?!
I've been filing bugs in launchpad as soon as they raised in my laptops. I don't thing that message getting annoyed about current contributors will help the project or contributors. That only leads to put noise between us. Try by sending reminders, or reaching more contributors. Just my thoughts.
