I wouldn't get too excited yet. It is a step in the right direction,
but needs more work on video applications, etc.

I would suggest doing it the other way round, i.e., install Ubuntu
Studio first, and then add Feisty repositories to /etc/apt/sources.list,
and get what you need from there. This is because there are several
important core items in Ubuntu Studio suited to multimedia work: A low-
latency kernel, the muted desktop theme, etc.

Gora

Should be possible if repositories are already available for ubuntu studio.
Here's one link from google search

Incidentally, we have a copy of it at Sarai, CSDS, in Delhi,
and you are free to come by and make a copy. Please remember
to get a blank DVD (that is right, a DVD, and not a CD as it
is a ~900MB ISO). We have been making some minimal use of it,
and it looks pretty nice, with a low-latency kernel, and good
audio packages. The best thing is that you can mix and match
packages from Ubuntu Feisty.

Gora

Setting startup programs in Gnome:

Using cron to schedule periodic tasks:

You installed the .deb uding dpkg? Try and stick to using apt,
aptitude, synaptic, etc. especially when dealing with the official
repositories. It will make your life easier. Anyway, this is the
Restricted Formats guide:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

VLC will play pretty much everything:
sudo apt-get install vlc
