[Bug 126425] Re: [Fixed] Intel driver (using EXA) crashes system when starting compiz

2007-08-15 Thread liminal
What I meant is that EXA isn't tested by many. Those who have report it
is slower, and there are some remaining bugs. Consider that newer intel
cards haven't been tested at all because of bugs like these. Anyways, I
suppose this is another thread of discussion. Sorry.

[Bug 131418] Re: Open Office Write styles do not work OK

2007-08-15 Thread :olli
Hello there,

I experience the same problem using NeoOffice 2.1 Patch 0 on MacOsX 10.4.10.
After reopening a writer file I inserted another Paragraph using the Numbering
(Bullets and Numbering). Instead of the concurrent number I get an 1.1 (2nd
level). The bad part is, that the button Restart Numbering, which is a
toggable one, should actually allow to switch back and forth between the
concurrent and a new Numbering. That doesn't work - The button shows no effect.

So in my Opinion this must be a Bug in the OpenOffice Package.

Are you going to commit a BugReport at OpenOffice.org?

Greetings
:oliver

[Bug 132624] Re: Gutsy Cannot Print to USB Printer

2007-08-15 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
 Model Z12 is highlighted

Thanks for your bug report, this is a gnome-cups-manager bug.
The problem is gnome-cups-manager looks for your printer model under Lexmark,
since the Z600 isn't there it matches the one that closely resembles it: Z12.

Since the Z12 driver is not compatible with your printer this won't work.
Your printer needs a properietary driver from Lexmark that is not included in
Ubuntu.

Did you try the steps described here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=49714.

[Bug 108296] Re: missing /etc/postgresql/ after uninstall/reinstall

2007-08-15 Thread Kevin Hunter
After uninstalling 8.1 and installing 8.2, I find that the init.d script
does me no good. After some snooping, it appears that this is because I
have no DB data, but I did for 8.1. Seems that rather than the script
just silently exiting, at least an explanation of /why/ it exited would
have saved me 5-10 minutes of scratching my head. On the other hand,
I'll bet that the proper procedure was to have them both installed
side by side, migrate, then uninstall?

[Bug 132417] Re: evince doesn't display the correct font

2007-08-15 Thread Sim IJskes
After trying to find an excellent example, i'll have to amend my
bugreport a tiny bit. It is not about ArialMT but about non-embedded:
PalatinoLinotype-Roman

It's about document
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_301_201_admin_guide.pdf

The 'normal' text on for instance book page 7, is in acrobat reader a
serif typeface, in evince it is a 'sans-serif'.

When i turn on FC_DEBUG=4 and 'printCommands yes' i learn the following:

Add Subst match
pattern any family Equal Palatino-Roman
edit
Edit family Append URWPalladioL-Roma;

(indeed: fc-match Palatino-Roman gives: URWPalladioL-Roma.pfb: URW
Palladio L Roman, which is in gfonts-x11)

I am not a master in interpreting fontconfig / poppler debug output, but
i will try to find the relevant spot:

If poppler encounters the lines:

Tf /TT8 1
  font: tag=TT8 name='PalatinoLinotype-Roman' 1
Tm 10.98 0 0 10.98 153 640.02
Tc 0.0008
Tw -0.0049
Tj (Customizing Guest Op)

It starts finding a proper font match.

FcConfigSubstitute Pattern has 6 elts (size 16)
family: Palatino Linotype(s)
slant: 0(i)(s)
weight: 80(i)(s)
width: 100(i)(s)
spacing: 0(i)(s)
lang: xx(s)
...
(it passes the opportunity to match a close relative:)
FcConfigSubstitute test pattern any family Equal Palatino-Roman
No match
...
(and concludes with:)
Substitute match
pattern all family NotEqual sans-serif
pattern all family NotEqual serif
pattern all family NotEqual monospace
edit
Edit family AppendLast sans-serif;

Does this help you any further?

Gr. Sim

[Bug 132633] Video playback is horizontally stretched for GMA965 (X3100)

2007-08-15 Thread Julian Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I am using Kubuntu Feisty but with a backported Gutsy driver
(2.1.0-1ubuntu1) because the Feisty-shipped one is unusable on my Dell
D630.

Playing any videos in any player (kaffeine, mplayer etc) results in the
video being stretched horizontally. It looks like it's applying a 4:3
to 16:9 correction wrongly because the screen is already 16:9.

Public bug reported:

Re: [Bug 85488] Re: some usb_devices fault if usb_suspend enabled

2007-08-15 Thread Hans van Esdonk
Andrej,

I have the same problem with my BenQ (=Acer) scanner.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-
backends/+bug/85488/comments/40

works for me, but not always..

Sometimes it looks if nothing happens and then, after a while (5-10
minutes) the scanner starts!!! I'm using xsane scanner program.

Good luck

Hans

Andrej schreef:
I also have problem with my umax astra net ia101 (using plustek driver).
Problems started when I compiled that ($/## usb-suspend into kernel
2.6.20. I kept my old one, but now it doesn't matter with which I boot,
with both my scanner doesn't work.

Problem was when scanning, lamp is turned off, so the picture was black
and scanner head did NOT park (it stoped when returning back). These
symptoms only showed in xsane and openoffice gui and not with scanimage.

Today I downloaded and installed sane-backends from cvs, but this didn't
 entirely fixed my problem.
Now lamp is on and scanned picture is fine, but scanner head still doesn't
return, it still stops in the middle of parking.

Does anybody have clue, why I can't scan normally with my old kernel,
without usb-suspend? This question bother me the most.

Architecture: i386
Version: 0.9.1+20060806-3
Depends: python, gcc, make, binutils, ccache
Suggests: distcc
Size: 33170
Description: Compilation controller
The ccontrol program takes over the roles of the compiler, linker and
make, and reads a configuration file to decide what to do before
invoking them. This is particularly useful for centralized control over
commands and options, such as enabling distcc and ccache. It is also
great for controlling parallelism and which compiler versions to use,
based on the directory and make targets.

[Bug 132641] Default games only represent few game types

2007-08-15 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

--== Do not use this bug report to discuss which games are best ==--

Ubuntu strives to include 'best of category' GNU software, but in the
games menu it only represents one or two types of game. I think it
should include a 'best of' for each different genre of computer game. I
know there are many excellent games out there from different genre which
are GNU licensed and would be great in Ubuntu. The current selection
seems like an extension of MS's set of bundled games.

The wikipedia article lists these main genre:

1.1 Action games
1.2 Adventure
1.3 Fighting
1.4 Role-playing games
1.5 Platform games
1.6 Simulation games
1.7 Sports
1.8 Strategy

Using that list I can only see strategy represented in Ubuntu.

So:

a.) Why is it like this?
b.) What could be done to change it?
c.) What's the first step to getting a wider selection of games in Ubuntu?
