[ubuntu-in] MTNL Triband through USB - Ubuntu 7.10 (Mumbai / Delhi)

2007-10-19 Thread Roshan

If you are a MTNL Triband user and want to connect to
the internet through USB, Ubuntu 7.10 will
automatically detect the network through the USB.

However, one would have to add the DNS servers in
order to get started.
(Kubuntu 6.06 (and later), though, could do it
out-of-the box - See the K effect ;) )

Please see the
http://www.ubuntu-in.org/wiki/Broadband_Howto#MTNL_Triband
page for details. (Somehow, pppoeconf never worked for
me on Triband - not even on Kubuntu).

Gora,

Its been on this mind and you too have been reminding us in the
channel about something on the sidelines of foss.in. We favor to have
it started during the Project Day itself, with not just a [5] but a
seperate PPA for taking care of India related packages in Ubuntu,
which all other teams like ubuntu-tam will also be a part of. Thus we
will have contributing members on this and also a solid goal to
achieve. This can also serve as an entry point for new members to
learn contributing to ubuntu as well. I feel, as the Indian Loco Team,
it is our responsibility to do this. I have read Ubuntu Brazilian team
doing a lot of contribution on Brazil related packages and
translations. Its time Ubuntu-In follows and joins them and other
world wide Loco Teams.

I hope, wish and will take measures that this doesn't go as just
words. I am sure to get support from people who have similar thoughts
like Onkar Shinde and people who have been already working in this
like you, amachu and Kartik (Sorry, I just said names which I
frequently talk with and am sure of. Others please regret for not
including your names :) )

More ideas and responses from the team members is expected on a
separate thread :)

We understand this very well and that is where the combined project
day by Debian-In and Ubuntu-In team is going to be a good start. As
there are lot of common members in both the teams and a lot of respect
for the upstream i.e. Debian within the Ubuntu-In team, this will
become reality soon that both teams will work on common platforms such
as localization and others :)

Hi community

I've just joined. I'd like to help out. I can contribute in anything related
from testing, coding, configuring or managing servers, writing
documentation(in Hindi or English) etc. I'm a bit pressed for time for a few
days. Let's say a week, but after that I'll have a lot of hours to spare. I
can still do some QA for this drupal install while my code is compiling ;)

Let me know.

small chat with g0sub and he told me he had forwarded a request to the

Re: [ubuntu-in] List of Current To-dos

2007-10-19 Thread 74yrs old
I wish to ensure that baraha type phonetic keyboard layout for all Indian
languages are included in the LinuxOS - atleast in Ubuntu 7.10 At present
I have discontinued the using ubuntu due to non-availability baraha type
phonetic for Kannada. Moreover ubuntu does not display characters
correctly as in the case of Windows.
As top priority -to ensure correct Character Map as well as single baraha
type phonetic keyboard layout for all Indian languages are installed either
as default/available in LinuxOS -for benefit of Indian Linux users.

Here are the quick links for tips to turn gEdit into short of Textmate
http://grigio.org/textmate_gedit_few_steps

I am using this for CakePHP and Ruby on Rails it's speedy and easy more of

Here is mine

Editor/IDE = Jedit, Netbeans (Ruby IDE), Gedit with following plug-ins
(snapopen, quickhighlightmode, gemini, autocomplete) these plug-ins make it
more like Textmate. Google 'gedit texmate' for help.

Browsers = Firefox, ies4linux, Opera, Konqueror
Browser/JS Tools = Web Developer Toolbar, FireBug, YSlow
Debugger = XDebug

Which eclipse version are you using. I am using 3.3. Also try using
latest JRE like 6.0. You can specify which jvm to use and memory to
allocate with eclipse with command line as follows.
eclipse.exe -vm /path/to/java -vmargs -Xms300m -Xmx450m

[ubuntu-in] What your web development environment

2007-10-19 Thread Mir Nazim
Hello guys

Here I come to disturb you once again.

I am a web app developer working mostly on PHP/Drupal, Python/Django ,
jQuery. Actually I wanted to know what kind of tools are people using
on ubuntu to develop web apps. By tools I mean editors, gebuging
tools, browser compatibility testing tools etc.

The aim here is not to start another editor wars, but just to document
the things available.

So here goes my list

Editor/IDE = Quanta, Komodo IDE, Eclipse
Browsers = Firefox, Epiphany, ies4linux, Opera, Konqueror
Browser/JS Tools = Web Developer Toolbar, FireBug, YSlow
Debugger = XDebug

What I would specifically like to know about that is any one using
something like TextMate for Linux(please do not mention scribes. It
has a real long way to go before it can even come close to textmate),
Because Komodo and Eclipse something start to get sluggish after
extended use.

Mir,

99.99% of open source applications are available for 64 bit systems.
This includes eclipse and related tools. It is in gutsy repository or
you can download latest version 3.3 from eclipse website (gutsy still
has 3.2.2).
One of the main problem from home user's point of view was flash
(previously), but with gnash project even that is solved to a large
extent.

These are all practical issues, and rightly so. I would like to
submit two more items, which have more of a philosophical bent,
though they also touch on practicalities:
[5] Where is the "in" part in ubuntu-in?
I would suggest that we work with IndLinux on making sure
that Indian language packages work well on Ubuntu. This was
one of the original intentions behind the Ubuntu-in team,
and though some work has been done, it is not nearly enough.
One aspect, which will also be part of the IndLinux project
day is documentation. I suggest that we share work on this,
along the lines of [4] above.
[6] Relationship with debian-in:
There are already people with nothing better to do muttering
on debian-in lists about how Debian is *freer* than Ubuntu.
I have no wish to get involved in this discussion, but a
practical policy of cooperation might be to ensure that any
Indian-language specific enhancement to Ubuntu also be
submitted to Debian.

Regards,
Gora

I did a Google search for "64 bit ubuntu gutsy review" and got links such as:

http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/blog/2007/08/the_64bit_experience_with_ubun.html

http://www.lockergnome.com/nexus/linux/2007/09/22/installing-flash-9-on-64-bit-ubuntu/

http://www.lockergnome.com/nexus/linux/2007/10/18/ubuntu-gutsy-wireless-help/

Again, not exactly what you need, but maybe some good reviews will
crop up after a few days since Gutsy was only just released :-)

Aren't we also looking for a http://planet.ubuntu-in.org/ ?
