Not sure what the problem is. May be tracker is trying to index the disk. Thought that should not be the case since it indexes home directory only by default. Hi First Bug (or some problem) Everytime i insert an external usb disk (pen drive, external harddisk etc) the icon that pops up automatically usually (often but not always) hides behind an existing icon on the desktop. Second problem - while trying to unmount a external usb pen drive, hard disk i get the error "unable to eject device" everytime. Initially i thought it was becuase some operation was in progress but this happens even if all the windows and any operations have been completed. any ideas. thanks ram PS - people might wonder why i am not googling, well the problem is am subsisting on an internet connection that varies between 16 to 25 kbps and its difficult to browse always. -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

I guess these are the relevant parts of my xorg.xconf. So far, i have not had any graphics related problems - have tried ubuntu, suse, knoppix. --- Section "Device" Identifier "Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter" Boardname "SiS Real256E" Busid "PCI:1:0:0" Driver "sis" Screen 0 Vendorname "SiS" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter" Monitor "Generic Monitor" Defaultdepth24 SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 14001050 Modes "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" EndSubSection EndSection Section "Module" Load"glx" Load"GLcore" Load"v4l" EndSection Section "device" # Identifier "device1" Boardname "SiS Real256E" Busid "PCI:1:0:0" Driver "sis" Screen 1 Vendorname "SiS" EndSection Section "screen" # Identifier "screen1" Device "device1" Defaultdepth24 Monitor "monitor1" EndSection Section "monitor" # Identifier "monitor1" Gamma 1.0 EndSection Section "ServerFlags" EndSection On 11/26/07, nan budh <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Prateek Sharma <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: On Nov 25, 2007 8:27 PM, nan > budh wrote: > > In my further attempt to fix Graphics corruption plus freezeups (both may > be > > unrelated problems for all i know) on my Gutsy installation i just visited > > the #linux channel at irc and the guys over there helped me out for over > an > > hour(i am indebted to them for this) and i learnt a lot today. > > > > I modified the xorg.conf file changing "SiS" entry in Device>Driver to > > "svga" and then to "vesa". Re: [ubuntu-in] Gutsy 64 bit troubles.
In my further attempt to fix Graphics corruption plus freezeups (both may be unrelated problems for all i know) on my Gutsy installation i just visited the #linux channel at irc and the guys over there helped me out for over an hour(i am indebted to them for this) and i learnt a lot today. I modified the xorg.conf file changing "SiS" entry in Device>Driver to "svga" and then to "vesa". And it did not work. it did not find the svga module while vesa did run but there were four columns with unreadable resolution on the Gnome login screen. I was wondering how can it be possible that there is no generic driver for my integrated graphics card? there has to be some solution, no? Any input appreciated. My machine: AMD Athlon 64, ASUS K8S-MX motherboard with SiS 760GX / 965L Chipset. Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter.
