Brasero is installed by default on Hardy. >> If you just want to copy to your hard drive, >> you should just be able to go to the directory on the CD and copy the >> file (some newer DVDs you need to be root to read the file, but should >> work fine with a VCD, imo...) > > Maybe with newer DVD's etc but not with VCD's - this has been an age old > problem - with me and , usually i have just found a windows machine and > copied the xyz.dat file and renamed it xyz.mpeg or something and this works, Yes, this is due to partially ported VCD support in gstreamer. The cdxaparse plugin provides on the fly conversion from .dat to .mpg. This is fixed in gstreamer CVS and will be available in intrepid. Re: [ubuntu-in] trying to rip vcd without success
Hello Ram, AcidRip < http://untrepid.com/acidrip/ > is a good ripping tool for ubuntu. You can install it using following command. === sudo apt-get install acidrip === It seems that you had selected the first title/chapter of the VCD to Rip thats why you are getting the Ripped version of the title ( some part of the VCP ). What are you trying to rip it "to"? If you just want to copy to your hard drive, you should just be able to go to the directory on the CD and copy the file (some newer DVDs you need to be root to read the file, but should work fine with a VCD, imo...) If you are trying to encode it to a particular format, the best way I know to do encoding is to use a latest version of ffmpeg .. mencoder should work as well . Dont know much about GUI tools for ripping though, sorry. If you see the file in the directory structure and you can view it on VLC, there should be an easy way to "rip" it. You could potentially also use VLC's "Transcode/Save to File" option, that's worked for me in the past. [ubuntu-in] trying to rip vcd without success
Hi have a vcd , made from a DVD tape. Have been trying to use k3b to rip it - however whatever i do it does not rip more than 2 or 3 minutes of a 600 odd mb VCD. Can figure out what setting or something else is not proper. Also are there anyother VCDripping tools, arson also does not seem too work . thanks ram -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
Re: [ubuntu-in] Ubuntu on Apple Mac's
Am being a pest here, but my own favorite laptop series / company has been the IBM /Lenovo Thinkpads - T and X series (dream about the later only) So Hardeep, what are the "hard" facts that you dislike in a mac - not the moral / philosophy. And the think is of late half a dozen people have waltzed through our lives all flaunting macs, though none with linux , and obviously all the macs lokked (and performed) flashier than my unstable / on the bleeding edge misbehaving ubuntu. hence the need for hard facts however, all your comments and discussion, so far, is much appreciated. ram -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
