Re: [ubuntu-in] BSNL Broad Band
Your modem most probably does have a ethernet port. Since your modem is not at all being detected, when connected through USB, buying an ethernet card for your PC may not be a bad option. PCI Ethernet cards (Frontech or Intex) are available for less than Rs. 150/- almost anywhere in India. I have two of these cheap Intex cards (Rs. 140/- each) and they are working fine since the last 2.5years. Re: [ubuntu-in] BSNL Broad Band
Yes surely USB, since he doesn't have any ethernet port. There is no guarantee that the usb modem will work out of the box, however many of the Huawei modems supplied by BSNL does work out of the box. pppoeconf detects many of these Huawei Modem connected through USB. So I wanted him to confirm this first. On 27/12/2008, Ramnarayan. [ubuntu-in] Some more problems with Hindi and openoffice
Hi am facing some problems with using hindi (Devanagari) while typing out open office documents main problem - when i use the keyboard indicator icon to switch between English and hindi (Ind wallah) the writing begins all right - but if i make any changes in the font - like bold, italics, underline then the typed material gets converted into blocks. To rectify this i have to select the text and choose Lohit Hindi font to make it visible again. Second if i type a document and don't use bolding, italics or underline but keep the font option to ooo.org's default then it appears on the screen but while printing it appears as block characters, again to rectify this i need to select the content and change the font to Lohit Hindi So whats this problem and how can i get a permanent solution. Am wondering if there is any way open office (or my system) knows i am typing in hindi and automatically selects Lohit Hindi (or any other Unicode font) for the duration that keyboard selection remains at Ind(Hindi / Devanagari) Third - has any one got the open office hindi dictionary extension option working, if so what version of open office and how does it work. would appreciate your help thanks ram -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

The USB doesn't work out of box. They provide a CD which has drivers for USB provided both for Windows and Linux. Windows USB driver works perfectly but you have compile the USB driver for Linux. I did try it out many many times by installing hell lots of tools and kernel headers. Everytime it fails. I went to #ubuntu and asked my problem, even gave them the error log only to find out that the driver provided was for 2.4.x kernel. If he gets his USB connection working right that the pppoeconf command can connect him to the internet. I have another connection of Airtel which has Beetal router. USB for this works perfectly, creates an interface eth2 and loads the cdc_ether module to the kernel. So I can just assume that it depends on the router provided.
