[ubuntu-x] X Freezes with EXA and -intel on Jaunty
Hi Jesse, Carl, and Yingying, Thanks again for the help sorting out -intel bugs for Jaunty. One of the last remaining serious X issues I'm concerned with in Jaunty are X freezes. One or two recent regressions I've already raised with you guys, but there's also a number of long standing ones that seem to still be issues in jaunty. To get a better overview of all the freezes I've compiled a table listing the bugs, along with triggers and workarounds where known: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/IntelDriver I hope this data is of some use to you in testing efforts. [ubuntu-in] apple airport express on ubuntu with foss apps?

Bonjour, D'entrée de jeu, je veux remercier toutes les personnes qui m'ont proposé des solutions ou qui ont fait des démarches pour m'aider. Je vous en suis très reconnaissante. Mais finalement, et j'en fais mon mea culpa, je crois que j'ai mal présenté la problématique. Je fais donc un nouvel essai et j'espère que certains d'entre vous serez encore disposés à m'aider, après avoir lu la fin de mon message ;-) . Voici donc mon problème. Je ne vois à aucun endroit mon disque SATA, mis à part dans le BIOS au moment de l'amorçage. Donc, comment puis-je faire le formatage d'un disque fantôme ? Et mes 2 disques IDE, ont pris le format SDx. Donc, est-il préférable que je déconnecte ces deux disques et que je fasse l'installation de Ubuntu 8.10 sur le disque SATA seul. Sans doute pourrais-je alors le formater, le partitionner et tout le tralala... Vous devrez-vous encore m'aider ? Par ailleurs, messieurs, est-ce le fait que nous soyions vendredi saint qui vous incitent à faire, à tour de rôle, des séances d'auto-flagellation ? C'est un forum très intéressant, car il permet de regrouper des personnes du Québec qui cherchent des solutions aux problèmes qu'elles rencontrent dans l'utilisation de Linux. Alors pour ton prob de disque, je vois aucun danger à déconnecter tous les IDE physiquement, au moins la grande connection linéaire des données, et ne laisser que le disque sata. J'en sais rien, mais le mélange des deux technologies cause peut-être problème. Ensuite, avec un Live-CD ou autrement, je rebooterais en installant Ubuntu avec 3 partitions. Une pour le système lui-même (/), une pour la mémoire d'échange (swap, 2 Go ?), et une pour ton espace utilisateur (/home). Un grand ménage du printemps à partant de zéro avec juste le disque sata. Ensuite seulement, j'essaierais de rajouter les autres disques pour les inscrire dans le fichier /boot/grub/menu.lst par la commande grub-install Je te suggère de lire les pages de manuel concernées en cas de doute. man grub-install man menu.lst On aime toujours savoir les résultats ou solutions finales qui ont fonctionné. Marc-Antoine, Bonne idée! Je n'y avais pas pensé. Je commence à avoir l'impression que le problème de disque d'Edith vient possiblement du fait que les disques sont redécouverts à chaque démarrage. L'ordre change peut-être, ce qui empêcherait GRUB de bien démarrer le kernel. C'est tout de même bizarre que les disques soient incrits comme du SATA... Moi aussi, je débrancherais les IDE pour ne laisser que le SATA en démarrant avec le Live CD. [Ubuntu-QC] Commentaire concernant le porquoi de la liste
Bonjour! permettez moi de laisser mon commentaire concernant le forum, je suis inscrit sur la liste Quebec et FR, et franchement, je préfère la FR car ce genre de taponnage, je déteste, une liste pour moi est faite pour commenter, poser des questions et échanger entre utilisateurs... si c'est seulement pour les puristes, je crois que quelqu'un devrait peut-être se regarder dans le mirroir... désolé si je suis direct, mais ce genre de commentaire ne passe pas sur la liste FR... donc, en autant qu'il n'y a pas de commentaires déplacés envers personnes, personnellement c'est question de respect... je suis dans Ubuntu depuis près d'un an, je peux dire que je me débrouille pas mal maintenant, j'ai converti mon PS3 en console multimédia avec Ubuntu, j'ai un Netbook Aspire One de Acer un portable HP et un serveur de machines virtuelles, toutes en Ubuntu 9.04... et si j'ai pu en arriver là, c'est bien à force de lire les commentaires des gens, des questions-réponses que tous s'échangent, et surtout de l'entrtaide entre personnes... quand je veux savoir quelque chose, je cherche, j'essais et si je ne trouve pas, je pose des questions... je continue tout de même à chercher, des fois les réponses ne viennent pas, un jour viendra... joyeuses pâques à tous! [Ubuntu-QC] Je ne comprends plus rien
Bonjour, J'espère que le commentaire suivant ne m'attirera pas d'excommunication (on ne sait plus quoi penser, si on se fie à ce qui est arrivé cette semaine). J'ai suivi avec autant d'intérêt que d'incompréhension tout ce qui s'est écrit sur cette liste depuis quelques jours. J'avais cru jusqu'à présent que c'était là mon point d'entrée dans l'univers d'Ubuntu, moi qui suis encore, après plus d'un an, un novice à bien des égards. J'ai posé ici des questions, décrit mes problèmes, et, règle générale, j'ai reçu l'aide dont j'avais besoin pour avancer. Je lis tout, même si les problèmes des autres ne me concernent pas toujours directement, car cela m'aide à élargir mes connaissances. J'ai donc trouvé regrettable les échanges de ces derniers jours, et j'avais hâte que la liste cesse d'être ce courrier du coeur/défouloir pour redevenir ce qu'elle avait été pour moi depuis le début, un lieu d'échange et d'apprentissage. Mais j'ai été stupéfait de lire que la liste n'était pas un lieu pour demander de l'aide, selon David Giard, pour ensuite me réjouir de la mise au point de Fabian Rodriguez, qui néanmoins recommande de s'adresser à Answers. Je veux bien. Alors j'ai consulté Ubuntu Québec - À l'aide, sauf que, ou bien je suis stupide, ou bien ce «système» est tout sauf convivial, car je ne vois rien sous Answers, et je ne sais pas quoi faire d'autre que de contempler bêtement cette page web presque vide, sans explications. Alors je retourne au message de David, qui liste cinq adresses web, puis trois autres dans le message suivant. Ça en fait huit. C'est trop pour ma petite tête. Néanmoins, en cliquant sur les divers liens proposés, j'ai fini par trouver une page où poser ma question concernant le problème que j'ai présentement. Mais je ne suis pas sûr de pouvoir retourner sur cette sans avoir à tâtonner encore comme je viens de le faire. Ça pourrait pas être plus simple? On pourrait pas avoir un peu d'explications sur ce que sont les différents points d'entrée sur l'univers d'Ubuntu? C'est quoi, des demandes associées au site web d'ubuntu? C'est quoi, avoir son blogue associé au site web? Quel est le lien ou le rapport entre Ubuntu Québec - à l'aide et la page web où j'ai posé ma question? Et tous ces interfaces en anglais! Moi, la liste, malgré que ce soit pas trop convivial d'y naviguer et d'y envoyer questions ou commentaires (il faut changer l'objet, supprimer le texte non pertinent dans le corps du message, ce que beaucoup ne font pas, si bien qu'on a des pages et des pages de scrap dans les réponses, c'est un peu broche à foin, à mon avis), au moins, on a l'impression d'être entre nous et de s'adresser à du vrai monde. Les sites web sont impersonnels, complexes, on s'adresse au cyberespace, c'est vaste! Bon, je suppose que ça fait partie de la réalité des systèmes libres, cette jungle. Mais faut pas croire que Monsieur et Madame Tout-le-monde vont abandonner le rassurant univers de Windows (malgré l'embrigadement des esprits que cela suppose) pour se lancer dans l'aventure du libre sans GPS. quick update: drs305 helped me on the forums with the kernel bit... don't know what the issue was, but removing the .postinst file from /var/boot/info and reinstalling linux-image did the trick :D I thought perhaps that would mean that the graphics driver would install properly. And... it does! But that's all it does. Suggest walking through linuxdevices.com for a while. A number of manufacturers produce base systems that are suitable for DVR / Set top boxes, so you could grab one of these as your base system and build it up as you want. Alternatively, there's also a number of MPC like spec machines that have 1 or 1.6 GHz Atom processors in them with no storage, HDD storage or SSD storage, and also as it's Linux Devices you can be sure that Linux'll work on them, although you may have to use one of the Ubuntu MID or Netbook derivatives. It's all down to how much you want to spend and how much hacking you think you might have to do. Happy hunting! Hi -- I have a couple of machines that are used often to view avi files the like. One is a Macbook (mine) running Ubuntu. Currently, when I want to watch a file on TV, I boot to my OSX partition, and plugin to the TV with a miniDVI cable. The other is an Acer laptop (my brother's), and is currently never plugged into a TV, cuz we've no idea how to do it. Could anyone advise on how I could a) Get the Macbook on TV without having to reboot to the (now largely dormant) OSX partition, and b) How to plug my brother's laptop into a TV. I tried to test it out on my old Sony P3 laptop, which dual boots Windows and Ubuntu, however it did not work. It would install nicely, but when I boot into it the mouse only goes half way down the screen (I could not click shutdown) and the mouse buttons did not work so I could not try any of the apps. I am sure it's great though. Instant OS's could be the future as all we really need is a browser with most things now in the cloud right? :-) Maybe Internet Appliances will make a return http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_appliance I always thought they were a good idea, just too ahead of their time. It depends on your graphics card drivers, if you have an nvidia chipset make sure to boot up with the monitor connected to the machine you can run nvidia-settings (system - administration - nvidia x server settings) to setup a 'second screen', either a copy of your current desktop, an extension of it, or a completely separate one. it should show up on your tv and you can play video from there. espeakup in Jaunty
Hi, I have installed speakup, and everything went as expected until I tried to compile espeakup. I kept getting errors about functions being implicitly defined. Does anyone know what changed to cause this to happen, and beter yet, how to fix it? Also, in Orca, the espeak setting for the fast speech no longer works. In Intrepid, it was possible to install the latest espeak package and then add fast_test 2 40 40 to get speech rates a lot faster. I think this may be a gnome-speech bug because a friend of mine who uses Arch Linux has the same problem. I sent a message to the Orca list about it, but was told it isn't an Orca bug, and espeak with the command line will speak as fast as expected. I plan on using any info I get to update my blog, so if you have the solution, please send me the info you would like posted as credits. I need to know how to get orca to work in the root account
Hi, I deleted a user from my system, but the home directory was left. I can't delete it from my account and need the root account to work with Orca. Where do I have to move the pulse file so it will be disabled in root as well? Also is there any chance the admin apps will be fully accessible from the user account by final release? I can get them to work by taking the step I listed earlier, but it would be nice to have them just work since they are so close to working now. A rede ponto a ponto está configurada. o problema é que não consegui utilizar o minimodem direto no meu PC. Com as configurações daquele tutorial relatado. Ele simplesmente passa a ignorar as entradas USB do meu PC!! Além de não conectar a internet. Comigo aquele sistema não funcionou, então ESTOU SENDO OBRIGADA a usar a internet compartilhada com o pC do meu filho que esta'com o ruindows. o Tutorial é este aqui. Como posso fazer uma verificação? O que devo fazer? Se fosse nos tempos do win, já estaria salvando tudo e formatando o HD, mas acho que com o Ubuntu isso não será necessário. Espero que tenha uma solução, pois uso muito o pendrive. Quando atualizei, via tela de drivers proprietários, e reiniciei o micro simplesmente após o login a tela ficou totalmente preta e não funcionava mais nada. Dei um Ctrl Alt Backspace e entrei no terminal de segurança, desinstalei essa nova versão (180), mandei restaurar aquelas configurações podres de segurança, reiniciei, fiz novo login e mandei usar os drivers proprietários versão 177, que desde que comprei meu notebook sempre funcionaram perfeitamente. Por acaso alguém passou por alguma coisa similar? Já tive esse problema, no passado. Quando eu fazia login, minha tela ficava escura, eu pressionava ctrl + alt + f1, esperava um tempo e pressionava alt + f7... assim funcionava, embora fosse muito chato... não consegui resolver isso de forma alguma, inclusive enviei e-mail aqui para a lista. Hoje está tudo beleza, mesmo após esta última atualização para a versão 180, porém tive que reinstalar o sistema um dia desses. [ ] Já não é a primeira vez que sofro algum mal quando resolvo fazer uma atualização para alguma coisa mais nova e que, teoricamente, deveria melhorar a situação. Uma boa era baixar o LIVE CD do ubuntu 9.04, bootar pelo CD e ver se funciona de primeira. Bom, eu não tenho um modem 3G para lhe ajudar. Daniel o problema se não estou enganado é só em um protocolo acho que o XMMP. Então, quando você roda como SUDO, o que acontece é que você é um outro usuário sem conta nenhuma inclusive sem o protocolo XMMP, por isso que não dá erro, não que o problema tenha desaparecido. Por acaso alguém aí que usa os drivers proprietários da nVidia sofreu algum problema na última atualização da versão dos drivers? No meu caso usava a 177 e anteontem surgiu uma atualização disponível para a 180 (nvidia-glx-180 ou algo do gênero, estou fora do notebook agora). Quando atualizei, via tela de drivers proprietários, e reiniciei o micro simplesmente após o login a tela ficou totalmente preta e não funcionava mais nada. Dei um Ctrl Alt Backspace e entrei no terminal de segurança, desinstalei essa nova versão (180), mandei restaurar aquelas configurações podres de segurança, reiniciei, fiz novo login e mandei usar os drivers proprietários versão 177, que desde que comprei meu notebook sempre funcionaram perfeitamente. Por acaso alguém passou por alguma coisa similar? Já tive esse problema, no passado. Quando eu fazia login, minha tela ficava escura, eu pressionava ctrl + alt + f1, esperava um tempo e pressionava alt + f7... assim funcionava, embora fosse muito chato... não consegui resolver isso de forma alguma, inclusive enviei e-mail aqui para a lista. Hoje está tudo beleza, mesmo após esta última atualização para a versão 180, porém tive que reinstalar o sistema um dia desses. [ ] Já não é a primeira vez que sofro algum mal quando resolvo fazer uma atualização para alguma coisa mais nova e que, teoricamente, deveria melhorar a situação. Voce tem acesso a um pc com ubuntu? se tiver instale o ubuntu perfeito. Ele tem um programa chamada UNetbootin, que transfere o live CD para o ubuntu. Tenta utilizar ele. It's consistent with how Windows tools work. By design, you can join as many times as you want, and as long as you give it a Domain Admin password it will overwrite the existing objects in AD (without any warning). So I'd say the tools behave like they should. Whereas differing people might agree / disagree about whether to enable / disable usershares by default. On Ubuntu 8.04 my configuration works for months so I rather expect an error on Ubuntu 9.04 site. The problem is the configuration is almost the same (exludind server-id of cource). In addition I say I used new my.cnf file delivered with new version of mysql server in 9.04. Thank you for addressing the specific case I have set up. In answer to your first five assumptions, YES except I failed to recreate the browser result shown in the attachment to Comment 4. Now, the NAS shares do not show, only Windows Network. Double-clicking on Windows Network yields Failed to retrieve share list from server. See attachment for complete illustration. The following are or may be different from Comment 4: - The NAS was not hard-reset immediately prior to latest experiment. - I have given the NAS a static IP address. - I am not sure of the power-up order for the computer, router, and NAS. From now on, I will leave the NAS and router on while re-booting the computer. Public bug reported: Hi. There is several snippets in mysql init script, with 'log_end_msg 1', call and some code after it. 'log_end_msg' returns it's argument as exit status. So 'log_end_msg 1' will be intrepreted by bash as command that always fails. Option '-e' in bash causes script to bail out in case of any error. Moreover, 'VERBOSE' variable is undefined. So, I think this code is a little strange one. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mysql-client-5.0 The OpenSSL client support in the mysql client appears to be broken. I am unable to connect via SSL to a working SSL-enabled mysql server (running on a redhat box). Compiling mysql 5.0 from source with --with-openssl, I am able to connect just fine. After editing debian/rules to change --with-yassl to --without-yassl, and --without-openssl to --with-openssl also fixed my problem. This may be a bug against yassl - feel free to refile. FWIW, the SSL certs are self-signed with no CA. Addendum to Comment 18: Other differences from previous trial, along with setting static IP address on the NAS, I set host name to IOMEGA-36AE (was STORAGE- 36AE) and domain name to UTOPIA_BEACH (was WORKGROUP). I'm going to guess that when the domain names match, the shares are displayed at the same level as Windows Network.
