[Bug 488911] Re: needs-packaging kdevelop3 (because kdevelop4 is low-quality beta)
For some rather odd value of the word fine, yes, they do. Not really relevant to trying to support large projects for server code though, which was the point of my original report. I'm still not sure why this policy has been applied to kdevelop when a quick review of the official repositories indicates the presence of plenty of unmaintained software, so it's clear that not only can unmaintained software enter the repositories, it frequently does so. Anyway, I've moved all the code development off Kubuntu now, so I suppose it doesn't really matter. It just would have been nice to have been warned about this before karmic came out, so the migration could have been proactive instead of reactive. -- needs-packaging kdevelop3 (because kdevelop4 is low-quality beta) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488911 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 490107] [NEW] Wifi Connection Lost - NetworkManager Wireless Network Authentication Bug
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Bug: Wireless connection becomes lost and the wifi message Authentication required by wireless network keeps reappearing for no apparent reason. There is no way to reconnect other than restarting the computer. What should have happened: The wireless network should stay connected. What happened instead: The wireless connection stopped working and returned an error message that can't be resolved unless the whole system is rebooted. (Logging out and logging back in doesn't fix the problem.) Distro: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Package: network-manager Wifi Device: Linksys WUSB54G uname -a: 2.6.31-15-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 10 14:54:29 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux More info: The message Authentication required by wireless network keeps reappearing for no apparent reason. I had already set the saved password in Network Connections - Wireless so it should remember it. Yet even after it connects successfully on a reboot, a couple hours later it will lose connection and then ask for the same password again. However, retyping in the password in that error window doesn't fix the problem. And when the user goes to the wireless icon on the Top Panel and clicks Connect to Hidden Wireless Network, there is no way for the user to click on the final Connect button since for some reason it's grayed out. [Bug 418984] Re: Online media streams that use WMA2 WMAS audio codec do not play
@ Reinhard Tartler Unfortunately, the file you tested is not the same as the one comming in off the stream. As the upstream bug says, you need to take the actual stream and play it in VLC to objectively veryfy this bug. The stream address looks like this: mms://a1149.l1305038288.c13050.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/1149/13050/v0001/reflector:38288 I think it changes from time to time, so if you do not want to fuss with the javascript on the site, just ping me on IRC and I will give you a valid stream address to analyses for that time. [Bug 198666] Re: VFS: busy inodes on changed media.
Just started doing this. I was using Ubuntu 9.10 for a few weeks now, then out of the blue the busy inodes message started flooding the log. [Bug 489204] Re: Evince prints wrong pages when using page range starting at even page number and even/odd option
** Description changed: Binary package hint: evince Ubuntu 9.10 evince 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.2 I have checked similar bugs but think that this one hasn't been reported yet. When setting the print range to start with an even number (ex: print pages 2-10 = {2,...,10}) the option print even/odd pages only should in my opinion still refer to the original page numbers (ex: print - odd pages = {2,4,6,8,10}). In my evince version setting up a page range - seems to lead to a renumbering of pages, i.e. what used to be the + even pages = {2,4,6,8,10}). In my evince version setting up a page + range seems to lead to a renumbering of pages, i.e. what used to be the document page 2 is then treated as page number 1 in the page range. And this obviously leads to printing the wrong pages when using odd/even pages, namely the document pages {3,5,7,9} in the example. -- Evince prints wrong pages when using page range starting at even page number and even/odd option https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/489204 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this behavior. Below are more specific steps to reproduce it. 1. Open Users and Groups 2. Select your user and choose properties 3. Click OK to close out of the Account 'username' Properties dialog box. After you authenticate with the dialog box that opens, your password will revert to the original. [Bug 451893] Re: PulseAudio opens too many files, locks up, and fills up root fs (/var/log)
Whew, I just ran into this bug - suddenly I got a message that my file system was almost full, my CPU was pegged by pulseaudio and rsyslogd, and a few minutes later my file system was full with many gigs of /var/log/syslog and /var/log/user.log. Last night I changed my speaker configuration in my volume control from Analog Stereo Duplex to Analog Surround 5.1 Output. I have to think that's related based on the timing. I shut this computer off every night, so this isn't something that just built up over time. [Bug 477234] Re: chess game makes wrong moves
Hi Yorgos, The decision to make the move is taken by GNUchess, which is the computer you are playing against. For the full communication between glchess and GNUchess select View-Enable Logs. The homepage for GNUchess is: http://www.gnu.org/software/chess/ If you want to try other chess engines please look here: http://live.gnome.org/glChess/ChessEngines You say though it does not move any further - did this occur in the game you attached? If you can reproduce the case where the computer stops moving please attach the log files as this is probably a bug in glchess (the computer either resigned or tried to make a move that glchess though was invalid). -- chess game makes wrong moves https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 490124] [NEW] mplayer hangs with -ao pulse and -ao alsa if mythfrontend is running.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mythtv 1. Go to the command line with mythtvfrontend stopped. mplayer -ao pulse somefile.avi Works mplayer -ao alsa somefile.avi Works mplayer -ao oss somefile.avi Works 2. Start mythfrontend (in a window if necessary), then from command line as before: mplayer -ao pulse somefile.avi Hangs mplayer -ao alsa somefile.avi Hangs mplayer -ao oss somefile.avi WORKS So in summary, while running Ubuntu64 9.10, mplayer cannot play files with -ao alsa or -ao pulse if mythfrontend is running. This is regardless of whether mplayer is called from within the frontend or from the command line. Upgrading mplayer to svn did not resolve this problem, making me think it is more likely to be an audio bug. Running mplayer with -ao oss is a workaround for this bug. [Bug 490084] Re: Feature request: intel indeo 5 codec support
Found this interesting: http://www.moviecodec.com/solutions/iv31-iv32-iv41-iv50-indeo-3-4-and-5-8211/ -- The last free version of the Indeo installation package is 5.11. Version 5.2 (the latest) is pay and sold by Ligos, and is sometimes called Indeo XP. The various versions of Indeo are not backwards-compatible with each other - they are totally different codecs (meaning Indeo 5 can’t decode 3 nor 4, etc.) Fortunately, most installers will bundle the three most relevant versions (3, 4, and 5). Intel originally reserved the fourcc’s IV30 all the way to IV50 for its Indeo codecs. IV31, IV32, IV41, and IV50 are probably the only ones you’ll ever encounter. (IV probably stands for Indeo Video.) Indeo 5 is commonly chosen as the default codec to capture video by many webcams. Indeo 4 and 5 (not 2 nor 3) are two of the rare codecs (commonly used at one time or other) that do not have open-source decoders (in the form of libavcodec) - meaning ffdshow-tryouts and VLC media player can’t decode them. Indeo 4 and 5 (and maybe 3 too) are cross-platform (can be in avi or quicktime container). Provided the codecs are properly installed, both QuickTime Player and Windows Media Player can play Indeo in either container. -- Are there any instructions out there for manually installing the codecs from the win/mac installer on linux? ** Summary changed: - Feature request: intel indeo 5 codec support + Feature request: intel indeo 4 5 codec support ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-app-install More information: http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=Indeo_5 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indeo Though Indeo saw significant usage in the mid-1990s, it remained proprietary. Intel slowed development and stopped active marketing, and it was quickly surpassed in popularity by the rise of MPEG codecs and others, as processors became more powerful and its optimization for Intel's chips less important. Indeo still sees some use in video game cutscene videos. Official Indeo 5 decoders exist for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS Classic, BeOS R5 and the XAnim player on Unix. Versions 2 and 3 have decoders in FFmpeg. Indeo version 3, 4 and 5 are supported by MPlayer and XAnim. Version 5.11 is freeware and may be used on all 32-bit versions of Windows prior to Vista. Version 5.2 has been created for XP and is - available to buy from the official website[4] for use only with Windows - 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP. [Bug 486412] Re: Transmission hangs while downloading data over 4 GB on encrypted file system
The problem is that p2p involves a very large amount of random reads and writes. By running a BitTorrent client on an encrypted filesystem, you're generating a lot of overhead by constantly encrypting downloaded blocks and decrypting other blocks to upload them to peers. I understand and sympathise with your problem, but I'm not sure that this is a Transmission problem, or even a solvable one. -- Transmission hangs while downloading data over 4 GB on encrypted file system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486412 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No, just because a DKMS package exists and something doesn't work with it, doesn't mean it's the DKMS tool failing. No one has even posted any DKMS build logs.
