[Bug 494086] [NEW] when resuming from suspend, the screen is in a lower resolution than the desktop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pm-utils This has happened more than once, but does not happen everytime. When resuming from suspend, the monitor resolution is lower than when it was suspended. The result is I have no access to the toolbar (mine is only at the bottom of the screen, I removed the one at the top). Sorry if this is the wrong package, but I had three to choose from and this sounded like the likeliest candidate. I have no idea why resuming from suspend should change the resolution of the screen. I upgraded from 9.04, which had upgraded from 8.10. I never tried under 9.04, since I wasn't on it very long and 8.10 wouldn't connect the wifi, so I never used it. That means I can't tell you if it is unique to 9.10 or not. cpu q6600 mobo gigabyte ep45-ds3l video ati 2400pro 4G ram ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Dec 8 09:07:13 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Package: pm-utils 1.2.5-2ubuntu7 PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-16.52-generic SourcePackage: pm-utils Uname: Linux 2.6.31-16-generic x86_64 XsessionErrors: (gnome-settings-daemon:1909): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion `src != NULL' failed (nautilus:2006): Eel-CRITICAL **: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed (polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1:2013): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion `initialization_value != 0' failed ** Affects: pm-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug -- when resuming from suspend, the screen is in a lower resolution than the desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494086 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm not able to track the version of the package in the Synaptic. I have updated the system today, tuesday 08 december 2009. Another problem is the sleeping mode. SmartKenny, sorry for the inconvenience. Don't mention it. I'd like to contribute to the community. Do you mean EAP just stays checked? Could you attach a screenshot of your configuration? Note that you can't use MPPE with EAP. Yes. I opened the advanced options dialog, check off EAP, and then click ok. Now open the advanced options dialog again, the EAP is still checked on. And if MPPE is setup then it is lost too. A screenshot will be attached. Also, could you please tell me if you restarted NM since you upgraded to the network-manager packages from the PPA? You might also want to create a new connection if you are editing the one you had before. I did restart it, even restarted the machine. I tested both editing the existing one and creating a new one. Only -vm JVM is ok for me. I had no problems with eclipse and openjdk6. But other java apps (TV- Browser, Azureus) still do have severe problems and crashes if not run with sun-java6. So I tried to run Eclipse with sun-java6, just to be on the safe side. But I did not see any changes or speed-up/slow-down yet. So for eclipse openjdk6 seems as good as sun-java6. [Bug 259182] Re: ACX 100 driver not loaded due to IRQ 0
I am making slow progress with some help on forums, but it would be really nice to have someone who understands this stuff in-depth lend a hand. I would like to be able to continue using this wireless card _and_ keep my installation current with all updates, hopefully I will not have to go through this every time the kernel changes. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Applied Dec. 7/8 updates (see attached dpkg.log.part) Restarted into Windows. Restarted into Linux. After throb screen (white Ubuntu logo), gdm never loaded, system went into text-mode. Logged in restarted using `shutdown -hr now`. I tried a `sudo gdm`, but it gave me some error about :0.22 not having privileges. Restarted into Windows. Restarted into Linux -15 kernel. gdm/login went flawlessly. [Bug 494084] Re: arch parameter is not passed by the image proxy during image install from store
Well, I'd see 2 problems with this a.) the problem John brought up (describe-images shows confusing output) b.) on a i686 cloud (ie, with *real i686 hardware*, or nodes running i386 ubuntu as their OS) they *may* refuse to run the image. I can't verify 'b', but it would make sense to me to say I can't run that if the node was i386 and the image was marked as x86_64. This is probably SRU worthy if 'b' is a problem, but I think 'a' is just an annoyance. -- arch parameter is not passed by the image proxy during image install from store https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 490068] Re: Haier CE100 CDMA EVDO modem should be recognized by module option.ko (as it is supported)
Hi Hendy, Ideally the best way to get this patch merged into the Ubuntu kernel is to get this patch upstream first. Then when we rebase we'll automatically pull in the patch. Also, the entire kernel community will benefit from this patch being upstream. ttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelPatches has been written to document the suggested policy and procedures for helping get a patch merged upstream and subsequently into the Ubuntu kernel. Please take the time to review that wiki. Let us know if you have any questions or need any help via the Ubuntu Kernel Team mailing list. [Bug 486154] Re: System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it
Now, let's consider whether your window manager uses libcanberra fully. I know metacity does. Compiz doesn't. Everything I've reported has been using metacity. If I turn on desktop effects (which switches to compiz, if I'm not mistaken), I don't get any system bells at first. If I enable the PC speaker (modprobe pcspkr and xset b on), then I get the expected beeps with the expected repeat rate. So point (d) is not a Pulse Audio issue, as I had claimed. Should it be reported again metacity, libcanberra, or both (or something else)? Separately, there the issue of not having any bell in compiz, but my feeling is that that would be suitably mitigated by addressing (b) [and maybe (a) and (c)]. [Bug 494097] [NEW] Firefox crashes with Flash video
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox This problem has appeared recently though I cannot guess what might have triggered it. I have been running Karmic since it's release and did not encounter this problem with any of the previous incarnations on the same machine. Briefly: 1. Loading YouTube or any other flash based video causes a crash. This has happened both while the video was playing (i.e. at some random point within the clip) and as soon as play is hit on a video. Now it happens as soon as you hit play. 2. I have re-installed flash and also deleted my firefox profile. The second 'fix' worked for a little while but the problem quickly re- appeared. Do let me know if you need anymore information. All apps are up-to-date as is the system. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Firefox crashes with Flash video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 494096] [NEW] Clicking the title of a window is bringing a window underneath it into focus
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session Just recently, I have noticed with Karmic and my laptop that clicking on the window title bar focuses the wrong window. It happens mostly when I click and drag, expecting to move the window from one monitor to the other. Often the window is maximized. In my setup, I have a laptop with an external monitor enabled via xrandr. The problem occurs with both my DVI and my VGA output. I put my laptop into standby when I leave work and wake it back up at home, so I switch between the monitors in one gnome-session. My LnF is custom, using Human-Clearlooks and a custom Window Border I found on the gnome look site called BlendedSmallDoubleRound. It isn't 100% reproducible but does happen quite often. I never had this problem in Ubuntu pre-Karmic. [Bug 494094] [NEW] Show Desktop Button should not look like a button - for consistency reasons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-artwork For reasons of consistency: The Show Desktop Button applet should not use a button design (widget) but should just use a plain big desktop icon instead. The attached picture will help to explain what I mean: In each of the four corner of the desktop there is a button. (If you click on the icon there this will trigger some behaviour) The design of the Show desktop Button in the left bottom corner (1. in the screenshot) does not fit to the artwork of the other buttons. Moreover the Desktop icon in the button is very small (if it would be bigger it would not fit into the button). In order to fix this inconsistency one should just use the plain Desktop icon. (Similar to the way Ubuntu uses just the trash icon for the Trash-Button). This would be more consistent and the desktop icon would be better visible at the same time. ** Affects: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Show Desktop Button should not look like a button - for consistency reasons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 490922] Re: Garbled screen after updating x11-common
I can confirm the same problem on my ThinkPad W500 using the internal Intel graphics. After an upgrade to the latest version of x11-common, the X11 server becomes unusable when started. Restarting (even after removing batteries and AC adapter) does not solve the problem. Going to a console login is not possible, since the graphics output is completely garbled. SSH to the system remained possible, so that I have been able to downgrade to 7.4+3ubuntu7. Since that, the system again works as it should. Also I have TV-tuner Beholder M6, which also populates the list of sound devices. Audigy is connected to 5.1 amplifier through analog output jacks. Connector switch is set to Amplifier. See screenshots. When I start playing some music through (for example) Rhythmbox everything works great: all five satellites and subwoofer works. [Bug 418762] Re: CouchDB in Karmic should not have dependencies on X stuff
I guess I'm confused why xulrunner is required if the actual dependency is on spidermonkey (libmozjs0d?). CouchDB doesn't require xulrunner itself, just spidermonkey. I see the libmozjs0d package's source is xulrunner, but why make the extra dependency? The reason for my concern here is for Lucid, an LTS that will likely be installed on a lot of servers, and CouchDB is making a good name for itself as a server storage backend, especially for projects like Chef. By requiring xulrunner in the package, a lot of X11 packages are pulled in which is undesirable on servers (for lean installations, especially virtual systems, and for security concerns). -- CouchDB in Karmic should not have dependencies on X stuff https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups
I had very weird problem with MacBook Pro and Ubuntu 9.10. When DNS resolving was in progress, everything else was frozen. For example, I do 'ping news.google.com' in one terminal, everything looks good, then I go and do 'ping linux.org.ru', and while DNS lookup is in progress, ping in the first terminal just stops. I thought that this bug is somehow related and updated my hosts entry in nsswitch.conf to this one - hosts: files dns. This solved the problem. -- mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94940 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Still broken here after applying update and rebooting. Screen fades to black at correct timeout, but screensaver is not displayed.
