Sanjay, please tell us which ISP you are subscribed to. I'm on MTNL Triband

Short of using one of those free unix shells to download the key I
don't think so. Unless you happen to have some packet mangling kungfu
skillz that will evade the ISP's firewall rules. Use SDF or something
similar to get the key, scp or copy paste it your box.

Hello Easwar,

Yeah, may be I misinterpreted his query. And about the key servers, when
I was trying to add a key I was getting blocked by my firewall because
of the unusual port 11371. So, someone suggested me to use the web
interface to add the key. I guess this is what pgp.mit.edu and
keyserver.pgp.com provide, submission through http/https protocol. If
you open http://keyserver.ubuntu.com, you will just see "it works" where
as keys are supposed to be added here http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371.

I am sorry if I missed the point but I thought it was a similar protocol
issue that I had.

Shashank, you missed the point. Sanjay doesn't want to upload his key, he
wants to add a key as trusted to his keyring. I would think both pgp.mit.eduand
keyserver.pgp.com would use the same port as keyserver.ubuntu.com. Correct
me if I'm wrong here.

Hello Sanjay,

I had a similar issue. You can upload your key on any of the keyserver
websites. These websites remain in sync so within a few hours your key
will be on the ubuntu key server. You may try any of these two.

using a non-standard port for https which you seem to be blocking?
Them: What?
Me: I err.. I'm trying to access something that's not working.

Me: I don't have a Start button.
Them: What?
Me: Um, I use Ubuntu.
Them: Sir, it must be a virus. Can you please try restarting Windows and
trying again .. ?
etc...

Is there anything I can possiibly do that doesn't involve 'checking with my
system administrator'? Am okay with strange work-arounds, just not sure
where to start looking ...

Nope not able to use the internal "win"modem, hence was trying to figure
this round about route. Was hoping that the guest OS would avoid this
hassle, though it seems not.

Will see if i can get a linux woking modem to see what can be done

It is most probably a firewall issue. I was facing a similar problem
at work, when I tried the same using my home computer it worked
perfectly. Some firewalls are configured to block traffic to non
standard ports (other than 80/443 for HTTP/HTTPS). Check with your
systems administrator.

[ubuntu-in] keyserver.ubuntu.com timeout ..

2010-01-14 Thread Sanjay Bhangar
hey guys,

Attempting to add a PPA from here: https://launchpad.net/~bzr/+archive/ppa

Here is what I get at terminal:

s...@sanj:/var/www/oxjs$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver
keyserver.ubuntu.com--recv-keys 8C6C1EFD
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring
--secret-keyring /etc/apt/secring.gpg --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg
--keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys
8C6C1EFD
gpg: requesting key 8C6C1EFD from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: keyserver timed out
gpg: keyserver receive failed: keyserver error

Is there any work-around for this? I have faced this problem quite a bit --
not sure what it's due to - my net connection seems okay.

Right now just trying to install what I need from sources ..

Thanks for any help,
Sanjay

YMMV as internal modems are difficult to configure under linux, and I
have no experience of configuring an internal modem as a fax modem
inside VM.

Are you able to use your fax modem inside your host os i.e. Ubuntu 9.10 ?

the device i want to use is a phone (land line - as a fax front end) and
this means connecting the phone via the phone line adapter (RJ 11) this lies
alongside the ethernet port. So is it possible i have to enable it
