[Bug 527399] Re: Pinentry opened and immediately closed in Ubuntu Netbook Remix

2010-02-25 Thread Steve Holmes
Thanks Daniel. The workaround is successful.

(I think I ran ubuntu-bug gnupg-agent, I can't remember)

I'd now be tempted to mark this as a duplicate of bug 367163, EXCEPT
that my main issue is not that the Pinentry dialog opened, but that (at
least in UNR) it closed again immediately. I've seen this happen when
running debuild, and also when signing a mail in Evolution (so it's not
really about the dialog being launched from the terminal, but just that
the dialog is not usable.)

[Bug 463471] Re: karmic regression: logcheck prints CRON CMD lines

2010-02-25 Thread Loïc Minier

** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu Karmic)
   Status: New = Won't Fix

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: logcheck-database
+ logcheck reports all logs from CRON since the switch to rsyslog; the
+ regexp requires /usr/sbin/cron or /USR/SBIN/CRON, but rsyslog logs cron
+ or CRON

- Ubuntu 9.10, upgraded from 9.04.
- logcheck-database 1.2.69 from karmic/main
+ Impact: installs with logcheck get emails very frequently (for each
+ matching CRON log)

- logcheck is supposed to suppress cron lines that just log CMD,
- according to /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.paranoid/cron which contains:
+ Bug was addressed by updating the RE to make the /usr/sbin part
+ optional.

- ^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ /USR/SBIN/CRON\[[0-9]+\]:
- \([_[:alnum:]-]+\) CMD \(.*\)$
+ TEST CASE:
+ Install logcheck, wait for some CRON entries in your syslog, wait for
logcheck's cron to run, see whether you get an email.

- This used to work on 9.04, however, on 9.10 CRON no longer logs its full
- path name, example from /var/log/syslog:
-
- Oct 29 17:50:01 host1 CRON[8504]: (user1) CMD (/usr/local/bin/getmail -r
- /home/user1/.getmail/getmailrc)
-
- Which makes these lines appear in the logs. Annoying for jobs on a
- 5-minute basis...
-
- Suggested fix: adjust the filter line from
- /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.paranoid/cron shown above and remove the
- /USR/SBIN part.
+ Regression potential: People with local changes need to merge conffiles.

[Bug 463471] Re: karmic regression: logcheck prints CRON CMD lines

2010-02-25 Thread Loïc Minier
@Ralf: we actually have a process to fix high impact bugs in stable releases
which are not security bugs, see:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

of course we can't fix all bugs in stable releases, and we prefer
focusing on bugs of the next release to have as little as possible
there; the process for stable updates is a bit time consuming too
(necessarily so).

[Bug 527699] [NEW] Feature Freeze Exception: virtaal 0.5.2-1

2010-02-25 Thread Walter Leibbrandt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtaal

Version 0.5.1-1 is currently included in Lucid, despite version 0.5.2-1
being available in Debian testing and not synced (see bug 523265 for
sync request).

The latest microrelease is a very important maintenance and bugfix release. Two
of the most important fixes are the:
* Broken UI localisations fixed, and
* An old (existing and tested) plug-in is packaged that was accidentally left
out of the .deb

Version 0.5.2-1 is thus a significant improvement over 0.5.1-1 with no
more risk to the rest of the system.

[Bug 486558] Re: /etc/default/cron obsolete?

2010-02-25 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
In my opinion this is a break of functionality.
A lot of people are custom with tweaking the configrations in /etc/default and
will be wondering why things are breaking after migration of there servers to
10.04.

In /etc/default/cron was also the parsing of the system environment tweaked.
The following functionality from cron.init is also missing in cron.upstart
-
# Read the system's locale and set cron's locale. This locale
# will be inherited by cron (used to set charset of emails)
# and tasks running under it.

parse_environment ()
{
ENV_FILE=none
[ -r /etc/environment ] ENV_FILE=/etc/environment
[ -r /etc/default/locale ] ENV_FILE=/etc/default/locale
[ $ENV_FILE = none ] return

for var in LANG LC_ALL LC_CTYPE; do
value=$(egrep ^[^#]*${var}= $ENV_FILE | tail -n1 | cut -d= -f2)
eval $var=$value
done
}

# Parse the system's environment
if [ $READ_ENV = yes ] ; then
export LANG LC_ALL LC_CTYPE
parse_environment

[Bug 527704] [NEW] [lucid] Ubiquity suggests default hostname as -laptop-laptop-laptop-laptop-laptop

2010-02-25 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Ubiquity in Kubuntu lucid desktop from image:
lucid-desktop-amd64.iso 24-Feb-2010 19:33 686M Desktop CD for 64-bit
PC (AMD64) computers (standard download)
not properly suggests default hostname to -laptop-laptop-laptop-laptop-laptop.
It looks like it's getting in a loop... and doesn't get username from dialog to
combine hostname.
Ubiquity doesn't want to go later if I don't change hostname (because of - as
first character) but it's OK to change it to something else and installer goes
later.

[Bug 518506] Re: Support Application Indicators

2010-02-25 Thread Sense Hofstede
Closing this bug as Invalid since I cannot change the status to Won't Fix. In a
discussion held yesterday night/earlier today it was decided to not include
Application Indicators support upstream because the notification icon will be
dropped in the future.
Because this won't arrive in time for Lucid I am providing a patch that adds
Indicator Application support to the release currently in Lucid.

[Bug 527713] [NEW] initramfs-tools dependency is too low

2010-02-25 Thread Robert Collins
Public bug reported:

Changes in the kernel package need a newer initramfs than the declared

suggests 0.73e is sufficiently newer.

[Bug 518481] Re: nepomuk:/ KIO slave does not work properly / does not exist

2010-02-25 Thread Harald Sitter
So I search for documents, the name of the documents folder, and I get
a hit on that exact folder (which is not tagged or rated or anything)
and again i can click that folder and end up in the folder via the

[Bug 518481] Re: nepomuk:/ KIO slave does not work properly / does not exist

2010-02-25 Thread Harald Sitter
oh ah!

The krunner nepomuk search got a bug, that indeed makes you end up with
a resource, but then again that feature got a couple more bugs.

This is however an upstream bug and should be reported on bugs.kde.org
(tough I think there is already a report about this there).

For the time being you can use the search in dolphin, which works
properly.

Since it seems mounts are relevant here:
/dev/mapper/ubuntu-root / ext4 rw...
/dev/sda4 /boot ext2 rw...

This is the default for automatic partitioning using LVM on a 1.5 GB

Public bug reported:

Hi

Upon a default Ubuntu Server install with a 1.5 GB disk and automatic
partitioning with root on LVM, I got this error message on boot. This
seems to be due to using the fbcon module with plymouth.

[Bug 527722] [NEW] pre depends loop

2010-02-25 Thread Robert Collins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

udev depends on upstart-job
upstart[provides upstart-job] predepends on mountall
mountall depends on udev

The problem is that:
mountall won't configure until udev configures
udev won't configure until upstart is installed
upstart won't unpack until mountall is configured

and around we go.

This is starting from hardy, so it won't show up with less ancient
machines, I suspect.

[Bug 527721] [NEW] gnome randomly crashes back to GDM login screen

2010-02-25 Thread toffyrn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Gnome crashes randomly, often when pressing a key after some time of inactivity.
It looks like this bug only happens when GDM/X starts on a tty other than tty7
(in my case tty2).

I have experienced this bug on Arch Linux, and it looks like getty doesnt have
time to aquire tty1-6 before GDM is started.
Look at Arch bug and solution: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/15881

I did find several reports on gnome crashing, but all of them (?) seemed to be
linked to a specific graphic card,
and noone mentioned this solution. Perhaps this is the reason for many other
bugs?

Any way to assure getty is ready before GDM is launched?
