Re: [Bug 538346] Re: Display manager in Ubuntu 9.10 not working with dual displays properly
On Wednesday 23 June 2010 10:45:41 you wrote: Hi Simon, so everything is working properly now? Great. :) Maybe it was an issue with those old NVIDIA files in the first place. If the issue is resolved for you, please mark this bug as Invalid (since it was probably a configuration problem). Thanks! David, Yes, the original symptoms have disappeared, but new ones have appeared in their place. Presumably all due to the 'configuration' or 'bug'. What would be causing the screen to display a mosaic on loading? I have also noted that the screen takes ~1-2 seconds longer to repaint in certain instances. For example, when the panels appear at startup - this takes 2 or so seconds where previously it was 1/2 a second. Although the screen appears to be working the desktop does not appear quite right. After implementing your fix I have had the computer crash due what appeared to be screen related problems. What happened was ... - I went to log off and the desktop noted that an unknown program was still open. - I waited but it did not finish. - I looked in the system monitor and could not see it. - Eventually I tried again and told the logout routine to force a shutdown. - What happened then was the screen became totally jumbled (looking suspiciously like the screen when starting up - i.e. confused) - I forced a hardware reboot and the problem has not reoccurred; yet In another instance (again showing how things are not quite right) ... - I logged off as a user and the dialog box listing the available users on the desktop behaved in an unusual manner. - instead of appearing in the centre of the screen as usual the dialog box repainted so the height occupied the entire screen, then stepped down until eventually reaching 'normal size'. The process took 1-2 seconds, which seemed like an eternity. I was able to log back on. - its like ubuntu is getting confused, or the driver is not really working properly. The fact that things eventually settle down - DURING A PARTICULAR SESSION - suggests that either the 'bug' is only triggered at certain times or ubuntu is falling back to generic drivers as the appropriate one does not work correctly. So David, in your mind is this 'bug' actually fixed? To me, something is still not quite right. The system was more stable originally, just a pain to have to setup the dual screens on startup. Now I don't have to do this but a range of new symptoms have appeared. Superficially the aberrations are not deal breakers but that assumes (a) the symptoms are not indicative of something more serious, or (b) the system does not leave my 'blind' while doing some mission critical task resulting in data loss or corruption. If you can help resolve these questions, it would be greatly appreciated, as my confidence in the stability of the system is undermined everytime I see a screen that would normally just appear; flicker, repaint slowly or not appear to behave in the same way as normal. -- Cheers Simon Simon Cropper Botanicus Australia Pty Ltd PO Box 160 Sunshine 3020 P: 03 9311 5822. [Bug 597933] [NEW] Audio discs not played
Public bug reported: I'm running 10.04. When I insert an audio disc into the optical drive, the Audio Disc icon appears on the desktop and CD Player (my default) opens, but says No disc. Then I click Places Computer (in the panel) and the Computer- File Browser dialog opens. Here the CD/DVD Drive: Audio Disc label with its icon is shown. Double-clicking this results in a listing of all the tracks on the CD. When I click on CD/DVD Drive in the Disc Utility dialog, the specs for the drive are listed: Model: ATAPI DVD-ROM 16x Firmware: TANE Location: Port 2 of PATA Host Adapter Capacity: 703MB Device: /dev/sr0 Connection: SCSI Smart Status: Not supported List volumes: Unknown 703MB All other CD players/rippers tried also fail to show the CD's tracks and to play the CD. These are Rhythmbox, Sound Juicer, Asunder, Audex, Banshee, and Ripper X. Puppy Linux 5.0 with its CD player shows all the tracks, plays them and rips them. So, presumably the problem is not within the hardware as such. When I initially tried to play an audio CD, something different happened from the above. After the Audio Disc icon appeared when the CD was inserted, a dialog appeared with the following message: Unable to mount location. DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus Error. No Reply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply time out expired, or the network connection was broken. Before installing 10.04 on my desktop, I was running 9.04. Then, inserting an audio CD did not even show the Audio Disc icon on the desktop. But then as now, ISO images run well as do data CDs. [Bug 597934] [NEW] Intermittent and random crash, cant reliably reproduce.
Public bug reported: Clean install of Desktop AMD64 10.04 (this is the 6th install in a row) Almost appears like the bugs regarding: * NoScript in Firefox * Mem leak caused by increased network traffic/windows effects * Mouse and Keyboard errors that freeze the machines I have tried all of the above solutions @ once, I have also installed fresh systems and tried each of the patches (including PPA patches) individually on fresh installs and it seemed to always happen, crash and screen freeze, within 10min of booting the machine. On this install I ran for nearly 48hrs without a crash, and all I had done was swap my mouse and keyboard, turn off window effects (set to none) and not installed noscript plugin. When the crash happened I have 2 instances of firefox windows open, empathy and broadcast running and actively in use. I am however currently running them all again now, have also added a few more windows, more tabs and a torrent client in an effort to overload and reproduce the situation again, while typing here. I have no freeze. I hope this isnt too much info and it helps in some way. [Bug 597691] Re: Please push to latest FF (3.6.*)
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Incomplete -- Please push to latest FF (3.6.*) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597691 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For the record, on Fedora 13 both my devices (E270 and E1820) work perfectly. I've been testing the system for eight hours without Chrome or Flash plugin. As I told, I had done a Catalyst 10.6 installation prior to the previous mentioned software here. I suspect that fglrx is causing all this trouble. I realized an hour ago that my dmesg log was full of SATA errors while the computer was idle. And the machine was error-free for 10 days, before I installed fglrx. Sure that I feel like a fool giving fglrx another chance, as I always do (Patience is running out though, and I never will be buying ATI stuff again). [Bug 597952] [NEW] Does not prioritise wired connection over wireless
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: indicator-network When I have a wireless connection active and then plug in a wired ethernet connection the wired interface gets set up with an IP address as expected but the routing information is not updated to prefer the wired interface over the wireless. Applications which already had a connection open on the wireless interface's IP obviously don't change interface, but new connections started up also use the wireless interface. I can reproduce this by connecting my wired interface while the wireless is active and then rsyncing over the local network. At this point I'll get ~2.5MiB/sec transfer rate. After disconnecting the wireless interface by selecting it in the network-indicator and restarting rsync I get a consistent 12MiB/sec transfer rate. Since wireless interfaces are generally significantly slower than wired ethernet this results in needlessly sub-par network performance. Re: [Bug 571035] Re: No sound in Flash videos after hibernate
It will probably be the weekend before I will have time to do this. In the mean time, I'd welcome and advice, hints or recommendations for which mainline kernel package I should grab or if there is anything besides the nvidia drivers that are likely to cause me trouble in this. Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox-3.5 My bug is like some, but not all of the problems I've seen mentioned in bug 302276. If I hibernate with firefox running, when I wake the system back up, flash videos have no sound unless I restart firefox. I am running alsa without pulseaudio. After waking the system, when sound is not working I have the following: $ sudo fuser -v /dev/dsp* /dev/snd/* /dev/seq* USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: hursh 2275 F...m rhythmbox hursh 32694 F...m firefox /dev/snd/seq: timidity 1826 F timidity I can fix it by quiting firefox and restarting it. I can just use the quite option in the menu. I do not need to forcefully kill firefox as others have. I would at least like to not have to restart application after hibernating. Restarting a driver or or some other (seemingly) non-stateful thing would be fine. 4) What happened instead After hibernate, flash videos in firefox have no sound. This is true for pages that where open when the system was put into hibernation and for pages that where opened after awakening from hibernation. Quitting firefox and restarting it restores sound. This only seems affects flash videos. It may have affected ogg videos before, but I can't say with certainty. I do not use pulseaudio, so it cannot be a pulse issue. I have a multi-open sound card so it is not an issue with one application blocking the sound card. Having just looked at the directions for reporting firefox problems, I did not create a clean profile prior to my last hibernate. I'll try to do that in the next day. I also had not started firefox from a terminal. I'll do that as well. I have the problem with many web sites. Youtube is common. The site at the moment is 'http://www.gearheadrpg.com/?p=85' with an embedded Gundam video that I assume has sound. The 'http://freegamer.blogspot.com/2010/04/open-source-rpgs-coming-up-dawn-rpg.html' has several embedded videos that had no sound.

[Bug 597786] Re: Music Store should know my locale
Ah... I see what you mean. There is one payment path that is used by all stores around the world. To people in the US (and perhaps other regions), the extra credit card fields might look a little odd. There's a current bug open (bug #527961) about this and we're working with 7digital to figure out how to reduce the confusion (7digital hosts the payment process). Also, 7digital is a UK company so that's probably why fields are defaulting to the UK. Eventually, we will transition most of the music store processes to a more customized user interface built by the Ubuntu One team. I'm currently planning that process. When this is complete, we will have much greater control and be able to implement tighter integration with the desktop (like locale settings). I'm going to mark this as a wishlist item to better represent locale dessktop settings. Today, though, customers like you can purchase music by leaving some of the credit card fields blank (like start date) or login to PayPal with your standard credentials to be routed to the correct locale. ** Changed in: libubuntuone (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- Music Store should know my locale https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597786 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
