May be changes have been made to LocalSettings.php file in regard to the
URL shortening . I guess a notice to all along with new article howto
should prevent this kind of article creation, as some of them are aware
of the wrong URL / article creation/ old one.

You could first start by backing up your existing profile.

This should take you down that road :)

# sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa

and sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade.

Read somewhere (can't find the link) that it works fine on Lucid.

Good luck!

I use simplest method

Download tar.gz zip file from Firefox site, extract to a folder and then
ther will be a file called "Firefox"
Drag and drop on panel, there you go

Close Firefox and click on that icon on panel...

It pretty simple. Go to mozilla.com from your linux box and you will
see the link to download the binary file on home page (in a big box).
Download the tar.gz and unzip it in your home directory. Your firefox
has been installed.
To launch firefox, either fire /firefox
file or edit your menu/shortcut to point to this file.

Yes, When you install firefox using the above mentioned method,
firefox will automatically check for updates (minor numbers only) and
will you an an option of "Remind me later" or "Install" when it finds
an update.

I am using FF 3.6.6 and most plugins are working. Adblock is working
for sure. Though Flash is misbehaving specially if you want to play
games in full screen mode.

To clarify previous and future confusions
a.) I don't use Kannada , i use hindi and have been using my
experiences with Hindi to help you.

b.) Am not sure what the kgp layout is - i use hindi inscript keyboard
for hindi. I just checked the Kannada layout and will send you a

Hope this is useful

PS is it easy to generate print outs of any language you want to type
in (the default that Ubuntu offers)

Go to System - Preferences - Keyboard - Layouts

The Add Layout

Choose India in Country (or any other place you want)
Choose Kannada (or any layout you want)

the panel that is open on the bottom left is a print option - from
here you can print to pdf or wherever

My personal preference is to use the language as it was meant - in the
sense type and write using the languages original script hence the non

the whole problem may have been diagnosed wrong (because of it being
on Wince OS) however why not paste the text in Ubuntu and choose Lohit
Kannada and see if your problem gets solved, if after that you need to
use a particular font then try putting the fonts in Ubuntu

I know for sure that another machine is having the same problem - so i
should be able to replicate this again and test it out

But that machine can be attended to only 2 months from now - so may
have to do an over the net guidance to the machine owner

dpkg just works with packages you specify and any dependent packages.
apt-get works with all packages in a database database.
The reason apt-get was refusing to go ahead with removeal of old
kernel was because there was at least one package in broken
(unconfigured) state which was latest kernel package i.e. the files
related to latest kernel were not getting created due to space issue.
So it was a deadlock situation.

Because you removed wrong package. You were supposed to remove
linux-image-. The package you removed didn't have any files
in /boot.

You shouldn't really do that. You should remove kernels in proper way.

Good that synaptic is working for you now. It would have also worked
if you would have removed correct package with dpkg. :-)

please try and select the text and then change it to Lohit Kannada

The problem with the check boxes is that whatever font you may have chose is
1. Not able to understand the formatting (in your case non)
2. Is not the appropriate font

in case of No 2 you may have to install the appropriate font

to install the font

make a directory in your /home/user called .fonts

copy font there and it should begin working immediately
