Are you using the default browser (firefox)? In that case, just check
one thing - on the main menu bar, click File => Work Offline. Deselect
it (click on it) if it is selected and try any site again.

you have to check mtu size of your wireless router by entering gatway into
address bar.
if max value entered low it for 1452bytes.i do it for my pppoe connection.

You have done most of the things correctly, there may be something problem
with your service provider or configuration. It would be of help of you can
share some more information
Who is your ISP?
Do you use Dynamic IP or Static IP?

Also login to your modem and check if everything is correct

it could be the DNS problem ... ( please post the output of the command
" cat /etc/resolve.conf" )

try to ping any live IP ( may be openDNS 208.67.220.220)

if you can reach that IP

just edit the /etc/resolve.conf

enter the following line

nameserver 208.67.220.220

thats it ... and check the result ..and let us know

FYI, Ubuntu is on 10.04. Good option is to upgrade since all issues are
fixed.

If you still want to continue on 9.04, fine. In case you are able to connect
to the wireless, then it might be a problem of the IP settings. Go to
Network Connections > Wireless. Select your connection and edit properties.
Get the IP settings, if any, from your service provider.

Jagadeesh
