Oh Sorry for redundancy In that case, I would suggest you download Minimal Ubuntu Linux, you can find here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD, and build upon that like installing LUbuntu, but I haven't tried this one... This page can come in handy for you https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/LowMemorySystems Also I would say, try on Virtualbox before installing on actual machine. > > -- > ubuntu-in mailing list > ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com > https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in > > -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

Some bits in your error message are not familiar to me, but when I have got the message as you have: "In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important!" - I have done exactly that and it has worked. To outline exactly what I did when I got a similar error: a> Connect drive to windows machine. b> Pray it shows up as a drive. If it does not show up, I would advise to keep the drive powered off until you see someone who knows what they're doing since it could be hardware errors and messing around with the drive could be worsening it. Let's assume it does show up in Windows. Say it shows up as g: c> Open up a command prompt window. (Start -> Run -> cmd) . Run chkdsk /f g: <-- substitute g: with whatever letter your drive shows up as. d> If all goes well, windows will find some errors and fix them. e> Reboot the windows machine with the drive connected. f> Reboot AGAIN. g> Connect the drive to an ubuntu machine, and it should now mount.. Inexplicably, this step of rebooting twice was very important. In my case, this has always solved the problem when I got this message from Ubuntu (and it has happened to me a fair bit). In your case, the line "Zero run length: Input/output error" seems maybe a little worrying, but you can try the above steps. [ubuntu-in] mount issue
every time i try to mount one of my drives the follow crops up. Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: Zero run length: Input/output error ntfs_attr_pread_i: Failed to find VCN #1: Input/output error Failed to calculate free MFT records: Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details. can any one tell me how to take care of thisbecause all my important works are in that drive...
