[Bug 572267] Re: package libudev0 147~-6.1 failed to install/upgrade: package libudev0 is already installed and configured

2010-09-09 Thread Adam Collard
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 634359] [NEW] php-pear should depend on php5-dev

2010-09-09 Thread Behnam Esfahbod ZWNJ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

Most of PECL packages require /usr/bin/phpize and some other php5-dev
files to get installed/compiled (i.e. pecl/fribidi), but php5-dev is not
always installed.

The worst issue is that /usr/bin/pecl (or /usr/bin/pear install
pecl/...) doesn't give user any clue on how to resolve the problem.

A simple solution is to add php5-dev to php-pear's dependencies.
Another one is to introduce another package, php-pecl, that contains
/usr/bin/pecl and set php5-dev as a dep of php-pecl.

[Bug 631795] Re: [MAVERICK] fails to boot after install on dmraid set

2010-09-09 Thread Tom Louwrier
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: dmraid

  hi

After *a lot* of troubles with Gparted and Grub / Grub-install, I managed to
install Maverick Beta from an Alternative CD (iso image dated 05 sept 2010).
This is a system with Promise Fasttrack fakeraid, booting off 2 disks in
striped mode. It's dual boot with XP.

When booting I see a lot of error messages that indicate a mismatch in the
naming of partitions between dmraid and the kernel. It seems one is using the
/dev/mapper/pdc_jcchiiab5 convention, while the other uses dm-5.
After a while it does boot, but as it does not mount /home on
/dev/mapper/pdc_jcchiiab6, I can not log on.

I tried going into recovery mode, dropping into a root session on the right
partition, mounting /home and then doing an update-initramfs -u to see if that
would restore the right device names for my / and /home.
It did not work, so I'm not enjoying Maverick yet :-(
I'm linking this bug to the package linux as well, since I believe it is an
issue between dmraid and the kernel.

If there is more information I should collect, please tell me what you
need, and give me some hints on how to get them. My CLI and debug skills
  are limited.

  cheers
  Tom

[Bug 614274] Re: modem-manager fails to recognize 3G modem after suspend/resume

2010-09-09 Thread Kamal Mostafa
A few ideas...

1. Lets compare BIOS versions, and lets all upgrade to the latest.

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version on my T61 showed BIOS version 2.10.

I've just updated mine to BIOS version 2.27 a.k.a. 7LETC7WW (2.27-1.08)
using the .iso image here:
 http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67989

The complete list of changes does include references to all sorts fixes that
might be relevant here, both to the intermittent modem problem and to the
crashes you're experiencing: memory may get garbled during ... resume,
Unexpected interrupts from the USB controller, etc.. (FWIW, I'm not
experiencing these crashes). Complete BIOS change list:
 http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-68451

2. What happens if you insert a sleep 1 right above the rfkill unblock
line in the modified 20_wwan script from comment #30?

3. I noticed this BIOS option: Config-USB--Always on USB which leaves USB
ports powered during low power states (it is disabled on my machine). It
might be interesting to try enabling it on one of the machines that exhibits
the problem (and revert to the kernel and setup where the problem was happening
frequently).

[Bug 570604] Re: resume after suspend on HP EliteBook 8440p

2010-09-09 Thread Jan Nekvasil
2.6.35-20.29 kernel from Ubuntu Kernel PPA (or Maverick daily live CD)
fixes suspend/resume for me, but breaks configuring monitors with xrandr
or gnome-display-properties. After applying changes display flickers and
only the pointer is visible. External LCD display reports out-of-range
error. Switching to tty1 and back helps sometimes, sometimes don't.

[Bug 634365] [NEW] [i965gm] GPU lockup cf0730d8

2010-09-09 Thread mxyzptlk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Nothing seemed to crash, but the error occurred after closing the lid of
my laptop and then bringing the display out of sleep.

Nothing seemed wrong -- it didn't seem as if the gdm restarted, all my
open applications remained, and everything seemed fine, I just got this
error.

[Bug 632808] [NEW] The entire bottom pannel is missing. Also missing are all the icons for the games, other, and monitor settings.

2010-09-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Marc Deslauriers (mdeslaur):

Binary package hint: lxpanel

I installed Lubuntu earlier today on a VirtualBox VM. I downloaded the
Beta .iso last night, so I'm sure it is current. The installation went
very smoothly, and after the restart I went and checked for updates (and
obviously installed them). At this time I also used a terminal to get
the documentation for Perl (in case it has anything that might have gone
wrong; that at least still works fine). After it was done, a restart was
required; I did so, and afterwards the entire task bar, start menu,
everything at the bottom of the screen was gone. There was a grey bar at
the top. I was able to circumvent the need for a launcher by creating a
folder on the desktop and going to a different directory to launch
applications, and everything seems fine so far (browser, terminal,
everything works). However, applications will randomly minimize without
any input on my behalf; so far chromium, lxterminal and pcmanfm have all
done so, and I cannot unminimize them.

I have 2 included screenshots below.

[Bug 634388] [NEW] /etc/init.d/ssh stop doesn't stop sshd

2010-09-09 Thread Jesse Michael
Public bug reported:

Running /etc/init.d/ssh stop gives the following message, but doesn't
successfully stop the sshd daemon from running--

je...@cthulhu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/ssh stop
 * Stopping OpenBSD Secure Shell server sshd
   ...done.
je...@cthulhu:~$

I believe this is because sshd was converted over to upstart, but the
init script hasn't been fully cleaned up.

[Bug 634387] [NEW] creates motd.tail on postinst, which could mean duplicate entries in /etc/motd

2010-09-09 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sysvinit

Did an upgrade on a server (8.04 - 10.04), and after a reboot login
noticed that motd had duplicate headers:

Linux fermaatti 2.6.32-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 20 14:24:04 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

Welcome to Ubuntu!
 * Documentation:  https://help.ubuntu.com/

Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

--

traced it down to the postinst files of base-files and iniscripts.
First, base-files moved motd.tail as motd.tail.old, and later
initscripts would create a new on by running 'sed 1d /etc/motd
/etc/motd.tail' (motd would by that time have been regenerated it
seems). The result after a login is above.

I can't think of a reason why initscripts creates motd.tail in the first
place. In ubuntu the file should be empty, or nonexistant...
