[Bug 662475] Re: does not boot from USB (10.4 did)

2010-10-18 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi philippe,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release
of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run
the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal).
It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 662475

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 625779] Re: Tryton hangs on shut down

2010-10-18 Thread Brian Dunnette
Michael - not sure if the trytond.log file will help, since it's the
client that's hanging, not the server (trytond).

Also, this may be a general bug with the Tryton client (rather than an
Ubuntu bug), as I've noticed the same behavior (freezing on exit) in
e.g. the Mac port of the Tryton 1.6 client -- see also

[Bug 662876] [NEW] [gcalctool] scientific notation not working

2010-10-18 Thread marbertone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Hello,
I'm a happy Ubuntu user. Surprisingly I noticed gcalctool's new look, and I
remained very pleased. But then I discovered that pasting such a number as
1.00035284274E-002 into it gives me the following output:
E not recognized
Geeez! I switched to Ubuntu from Vista also because I work a lot w/ data (I'm a
physicist) and the middle-click-paste was awesome to interface gvim and
gcalctool. Now it doesn't work anymore...
shame on the new gcalctool!

[Bug 662874] [NEW] openoffice.org lacks support of Thunderbird addressbook

2010-10-18 Thread Penulci
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) 64bit
  openoffice.org 1:3.2.1-7ubuntu1
  thunderbird 3.1.4+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu3

This report is about a missing feature in openoffice.org from Ubuntu
repositories.

After installing openoffice.org-evolution openoffice.org stopped complaining
about missing SDBC drivers for external address sources like evolution.
Clicking 'File - Wizards - Address Data Source' openoffice.org now offers
Evolution, Groupwise, Evolution LDAP and other external source but not
Thunderbird addressbook which is my standard addressbook.
Using debs downloaded and installed directly from de.openoffice.org it does
offer Thunderbird addressbook as Address Data Source.
Further information on installed packages, extensions or whatever may be
provided any time by me.

Greetings,

Michael

[Bug 661015] Re: cpu usage in pulse at priority -11 much too high for working quick with other things

2010-10-18 Thread wimpauwels85
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I encountered problems with pulseaudio when I don't reduce the priority
of the pulseaudio from -11 (far too high for working with other things
at the same time) to zero priority. Rhythmbox crashes frequently and the
rest of my netbook (max cpuspeed 1.90 Ghz, i know it is an old laptop
but it worked fine till this problem encoutered with pulse in the system
  upgrade)

Now when I put it back to 0 priority the system works fine and back to
normal speed (dont have to wait an hour to load an application) but only
how can I fix it by booting the system: so that my pulsaudio doesn't
give my pc the idea that only he is important and rhytmbox crashes at
-11 pulseaudio priority? Because in general I don't see the reason why
pulseaudio should from the new release on now suddenly beginning to
consume -11 priority which gives the rest of the processing no chance at
all to work normal speed. and it wasn't set up that way eiter in de
previously released versions which made my system still as quick as i
need. but now... what has happened to pulseaudio in programming that it
consumes too much (-11 priority is killing my processor capacities) Even
when I go on the net an rhythmbox plays music loading sites is slower
  than not using pulseaudio

I mean how can I fix the fact that I don't need to reduce it everyday
when I boot my system? that pulse starts just with 0 priority by booting
ubuntu , ? which is much better to work on my notebook as speed in
documents and which works still very fine enough for the sound of
rhythmbox and at that priority I also didn't have rhythmbox as crashing
  process anymore

so I repeat the question in short:

How can i fix the zero priority setting of pulseaudioserver together
with booting the system (booting and priority of pulse was fixed in
ubuntu lucid previously but now the same action (remembering this
setting when no other application are up and pulse set to zero doen't
work out with the nex reboot)however it worked out in lucid) so that the
system boots much more quick and i dont have to set it up myself anyday?

someone who can help me with that configuration (commandline based I
  suppose)?

  thanks in advance

[Bug 662881] [NEW] ftdi usb serial node only accessible by root

2010-10-18 Thread lanquarden
Public bug reported:

After the upgrade to Kubuntu 10.10 I was not able connect to my buspirate (FTDI
USB - serial). Minicom reported:
minicom: cannot open /dev/buspirate: Device or resource busy

uname -a : Linux lorelei 2.6.35-22-generic #34-Ubuntu SMP Sun Oct 10
09:26:05 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This was working fine before the upgrade. At that time I had the following udev
rule: 98-buspirate.rules
UBSYSTEM==tty, ATTRS{serial}==A7004DMs, GROUP=users, MODE=0660,
SYMLINK+=buspirate

I thought it could have something to do with the rule so I removed it and
reloaded the udev rules:
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules

Then again I could acces /dev/ttyUSB0 as normal user.

Today after a reboot I wanted to access my buspirate through minicom (udev rule
removed) and could not access /dev/ttyUSB0:
minicom: cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: Device or resource busy

I checked the permissions:
p...@lorelei:~$ ls -al /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw 1 root dialout 188, 0 2010-10-18 20:52 /dev/ttyUSB0

Group membership:
p...@lorelei:~$ groups
ping adm dialout cdrom plugdev users lpadmin admin sambashare vboxusers

Even added myself to the uucp group but to nothing changed. Tried
reloading the ftdi_sio kernel module but didn't help.

dmesg entries look normal I think:
[ 7795.737299] ftdi_sio ttyUSB0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now
disconnected from ttyUSB0
[ 7795.737309] ftdi_sio 6-2:1.0: device disconnected
[ 7798.963590] usb 6-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8
[ 7799.178150] ftdi_sio 6-2:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected

[ 7799.178203] usb 6-2: Setting MaxPacketSize 64
[ 7799.179162] usb 6-2: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0

I did an strace of minicom to see if I got any wiser:

stat(/var/lock, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|S_ISVTX|0777, st_size=40, ...}) = 0
open(/var/lock/LCK..ttyUSB0, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
umask(022) = 022
open(/var/lock/LCK..ttyUSB0, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_EXCL, 0666) = 3
getpid()= 10590
write(3, 10590\n, 11)= 11
close(3)= 0
umask(022) = 022
rt_sigaction(SIGALRM, {0x4199f0, [ALRM], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART,
0x7f42a5850c20}, {SIG_DFL, [], 0}, 8) = 0
alarm(4)= 0
open(/dev/ttyUSB0, O_RDWR|O_NOCTTY|O_NONBLOCK) = -1 EBUSY (Device or resource
busy)
alarm(0)= 4
rt_sigaction(SIGALRM, {SIG_IGN, [ALRM], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART,
0x7f42a5850c20}, {0x4199f0, [ALRM], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x7f42a5850c20}, 8)
= 0

Permissions of /var/lock can't be the cause...

Using sudo I can access the buspirate, but I want to run my programs as
a regular user...

I did notice that connecting through minicom to /dev/ttyS0 with the same
permissions is successful.

[Bug 661015] Re: cpu usage in pulse at priority -11 much too high for working quick with other things

2010-10-18 Thread wimpauwels85
one last information about the sound-devices quite important for
bugfixing. I use like you can see also always usb-soundcards this is due
to the fact that my morhterboard-soundcard device broke down and this
has nothing to do with the alsa driver if it should no sound would play
anyway but the sound plays through pulse: thanks to this I have sound
anyway, but after some time and in mixing with other sounds from the
system or websites-sounds my processor seems to become idle for a while
and my screen is blocked by some compiz-effect maybe this programme
should be made deletable without harming the dekstop like before,
because it could be two things together: maybe the pulse server with -11
priority which encounters too much problems but not when i reduce its
priority to 0 (zero).

it could also be compiz which runs offenly in a way that my desktop
screen becomes idle. My laptop is not intended to run videoffectes on a
dekstop: its for working with documents. but when I don't need compiz i
cant make it uninstalled because then i don't have my dekstop anymore.
so but rahter I think its only the pulse anyway.

I posted like you asked my bugsfixer-reports.

can someone help me out of this pc-idling problem?

thanks in advance for enhancing the pulseserver if needed

kind regards
wim pauwels

[Bug 655886] Re: Remote access to vncserver keyboard mapping

2010-10-18 Thread JD Rogers
Fix: I have no idea how or why this happens, but after upgrade to 10.10,
a keyboard shortcut is set to make 'D' minimize all windows. After
logging in, you can select the menu 'System' - 'Preferences' -
'Keyboard Shortcuts' and find the Hide all normal windows and set focus
to desktop and set this to something sane like Alt + D.

I suspect that the default is Mod4+D and when a system does not have a
Mod4 key available, it drops the modifier.

 Bug description:
 [needs-packaging] pac

PAC is a Perl/GTK Gnome replacement for SecureCRT/Putty/etc... It provides
a GUI to configure SSH/Telnet connections: users, passwords, EXPECT regular
expressions, macros, etc. You like 'SSHMenu'? If so, you must check this
 tool.

* Unique Linux application to impletement almost every SecureCRT's
 functionality.
* Remote and local macros.
* Remotely send commands with EXPECT regexp.
* Cluster connections!! Connections on same cluster share keystrokes!!
* Proxy support.
* Serial/tty connection via cu/tip/remote-tty connections!!
* Pre/post connections local executions.
* TABS OR WINDOWS for connections!!
* Quick acces to configured connections via tray menu icon.
* More to come (ASA I find time!)
* FREE (GNU GPLv3)

[Bug 619008] Re: Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading

2010-10-18 Thread hagbard
I was experiencing this same problem and found a way to fix it.

I just received a new Lenovo T410 laptop with discrete NVidia graphics
accelerator today. Installed Ubuntu 10.10 and everything worked fine.
When I installed the NVidia driver and rebooted, the system would hang
on checking battery state message and not progress any further.

The cause and solution: I checked the bios of the T410 and there is a
graphics setting that switches between integrated (no acceleration)
discrete (activates NVidia accelerator at all times) and NVidia
Optimus. The Optimus setting was on by default, with this
description:

If enabled, System BIOS automatically switches Graphics Device setting
to NVIDIA Optimus mode if the OS supports the feature, and to Discrete
Graphics if the OS does not support it.

I changed the setting to discrete and Ubuntu booted with no problems.
I assume that Linux does not currently support NVIDIA Optimus :)

resolution applied is that you waited until after the version of the

[Bug 658616] Re: gtk.STOCK_REMOVE has changed to something (I think is) confusing

2010-10-18 Thread TKL
in Maverick the gtk-remove stock item is the same as gtk-delete. This is
very confusing. In our Gtk application this results in menu buttons with
the same icon and different functions. Other applications are also
affected, for instance Deluge (Bittorent client).

IMO it is not a good idea to define the same icon for two different
stock items. Furthermore, I think it is inconsistent to define the plus
sign for gtk-add and not the minus sign for gtk-remove.

Pure bug fix. The only change (other than versioning and packaging) was
for this bug. Here's the key diff:

We've had 2 - 3 people in the past few weeks report this bug. I would
recommend taking it.
