[Bug 851824] [NEW] Wireless won't boot up for Acer 1830T-68U118

2011-09-16 Thread Paul Le
Public bug reported:

I am new at using Unbutu here so please help.
When I boot up my Acer using Unbutu Linux from USB stick, the laptop won't
connect to wireless.

Under Windows, the wireless hardware (light) will turn on automatically.
Along with the wireless driver, this hardware is activated by a software
program called Launch Manager. So under Linux, it would not be
activated. It did see the correct wireless LAN driver, however.

2011-09-16 Thread Jan Newmarch
Accessing my gmail account from evolution using IMAP was fine until about a
month ago. I have no idea what I (or an upgrade) changed. My account has about
40,000 messages. Now evolution only loads the first 17,000, the latest dated
2007. Some more details:
- 2.32.2 reports 17,243 total, latest email 2007
- BUT 2.28.3 reports 47,916 and latest email today
- firefox to gmail.com reports 43,088 which is close enough to evolution 2.28.3

[Bug 851616] Re: Regression - software center some texts messed up (RTL)

2011-09-16 Thread Shlomil
Seems to me like the placement of the stars is prefect -
for example, if you look at the highlighted selection in the above screenshot
you will see that there's a big space from the right to the beginning of the
label. If you would align the string to the right then is looks like there's
enough room and the stars would not overlap the label.

One more thing I noticed which might be very helpful:
Each cell of a program summary has two lines - The First is the program name
and the second is a short description (in smaller font). If the description
line (2nd line) is longer than the name line (1st line) then this bug occurs
(otherwise it doesn't - the stars don't overlap text).
Note that when it happens, the 1st line is aligned to the end of the 2nd line.
That's probably the cause of this bug - the 1st and 2nd lines are somehow
connected and both are aligned to the left of the longest label. Or, maybe you
implemented this by using a single multi-line label and for some reason the
text is aligned to the left in this single label.

in other cases where the 1st line is the longer one you can see the
stars don't overlap the program name but note that the 2nd line is
aligned to the end of the 1st line which is also looks kind of buggy for
RTL users. You can see example for that in the above screenshot in the
3rd program with the mms, wavpack, quicktine... name.

I hope the above observation I made is clear enough. I'm pretty sure
it's what caused this bug.

[Bug 672884] Re: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply messages when trying to interact with syncdaemon via u1sdtool

2011-09-16 Thread Andrei Sosnin
I'd like to add, that this bug seems to also affect normal nautilus
functionality. I discovered this issue after failing to run Nautilus
normally. When I run the Ubuntu One client and try to check the 'Cloud
Folders' and 'Devices' tabs, it shows me the same error in red. If I can
get you any kind of logs, apart from the above mentioned stuff, I will
gladly help.

I don't have many files in my Ubuntu One account and only two shared
directories are specified.

This issue appeared suddenly without any explicit changes on my part.

[Bug 851845] [NEW] Thumbnail view with unreasonable padding

2011-09-16 Thread klonuo
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I updated to Oneiric and noticed this issues with Evince [3.1.90.1]:

1. When I reopen same document, regardless my preferred saved view (two
pages, best fit, no continuous scroll) document is presented with one
page view, fit page width, continuous scrolling. So I have to change
complete view again on reopening

2. Thumbnail view is view very large horizontal padding, so if I want to
view two pages in a row I have to use 1/3 of my 1920x1080 monitor

3. Toolbar icons for Show the entire document and Show two pages at
once does not use stock icons

Issues 2 and 3 are new to Oneiric. Issue 1 was present also in Ubuntu
11.04 version

[Bug 847782] Re: installer writes a permanent ethernet entry in interfaces file

2011-09-16 Thread Leo Milano
Hi Clint

Thanks for the changes in failsafe.conf, neat work! A ten second
countdown would probably give slightly better feedback to the user (but
it isn't essential or anything):

$PLYMOUTH message --text=Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network
configuration... || :
sleep 10

$PLYMOUTH message --text=Waiting up to 50 more seconds for network
configuration... || :
sleep 10

$PLYMOUTH message --text=Waiting up to 40 more seconds for network
configuration... || :
sleep 10

 [etc]

I also tested removing the iface eth0 and there is no delay, so the
fix to bug #838968 seems to be working ok, which will alleviate the
situation here

I'm not convinced that normal installs
lead to 'auto ethX' in /etc/network/interfaces. Only installs that
started life without network-manager will have it, which is certainly
 not the norm.

Yes, that was the initial understanding. However, comment #5 by Robert
Hooker seemed to indicate that this is not the case (wouldn't the normal
live CD always initiate NetworkManager). But I downloaded the Beta 1
live CD, burned a USB image and I still couldn't reproduce Robert's
observation. I was using a DHCP connection.

@Robert: could you please give a little more details on how to reproduce
what you see? Maybe show your interfaces file?

@Doug.

Thanks for the partial fix, but still, if the opacity is set to, say,
50%, the shadow still looks weird. The shadow should follow the panel's
opacity.

[Bug 834487] Re: Add keyboard layout indicator to unity-greeter

2011-09-16 Thread Haggai Eran
Here's a patch lp:~haggai-eran/unity-greeter/keyboard-layout-indicator .
It doesn't work completely though. It adds an indicator and you can use that
indicator to switch the keyboard layout, but if you use the keyboard shortcut
to switch layouts, it isn't updated for some reason.

[Bug 851860] [NEW] glance user should not be in the 'nogroup' group

2011-09-16 Thread Andrew Glen-Young
Public bug reported:

glance 2011.3~rc~20110908.r1005-0ubuntu1

The glance package creates a glance user who's primary (and only) group
membership is 'nogroup'. This results in files/directories created by
the glance user having 'nogroup' group ownership. This is considered a
bad thing.

Please create a 'glance' group and add the glance user to this group
instead.

$ id glance
uid=108(glance) gid=65534(nogroup) groups=65534(nogroup)

[Bug 851132] Re: oneconf-service crashed with TypeError in _sso_login_result(): 'NoneType' object is not subscriptable

2011-09-16 Thread RüdiCoerdt
Happened to me when using the update manager applying several updates
after my yesterday's dist upgrade which was terminated with an error.
The update manager said: Your system is up to date, but I'm not sure
if the updates were already finished when the error message popped up.
Maybe it was also me tampering with the settings of the manager.

[Bug 851864] [NEW] Unity shell crashes on login

2011-09-16 Thread Tommaso R. Donnarumma
Public bug reported:

At login, Unity fails to start, leaving me with just the top panel,
permanently showing the Desktop menus, and the Desktop itself, but no
launcher, no dash, no indicators and no keyboard shortcuts. The Desktop
itself works, for example I can create a folder, open it and then open a
file from Nautilus. Applications launched this way seem to work
correctly, but no window management function is available.

If I run compiz --replace in a terminal from a Unity 2D session, I get
this:
