Re: [ubuntu-in] How to completely remove a software installed via ./run or
Hi Rahul Hey :-) , thanks i ran the install from a folder within my /home/ram/foo folder so what would i need to do to create a sand box second - even if the software was being installed from a .run should have an uninstall option , naa. I guess its not a ubuntu issue but more the software developer issue. regards ram On 26 June 2015 at 16:01, Rahul Ghose wrote: > Hey ram, > > (could not resist that :) > > One way I find useful sometimes is installing software to an alternate > prefix folder other than "/". Hey ram, (could not resist that :) One way I find useful sometimes is installing software to an alternate prefix folder other than "/". Sandbox-installation if you will. Then figure out the paths of all the files installed and delete them from the actual folder. Not sure if this can be done with your ".run" file though. It's not a real installation standard. - Regards, Rahul Ghose Flywheel http://www.rahul-ghose.in On 26 June 2015 at 15:33, Ramnarayan.K wrote: > Hi > > I installed a version of sofytware (gnukhata) via a .run file > > there is a newer version available (1.3.3.) at gnukhata.in > > due to some issues i was advised to install the new version > > However there was / is not recommended method to uninstall the old version > > So i used the find command to find any references to gnukhata (in / /usr/bin > /run / etc and so on) these i manually removed and then installed the new > version 1.3.3 however post install i continue to get the old version in the > about section. > > Now am unsure if the old version is still hanging around some where or the > new version just has not updated the version number. > > But the above is by way of explanantion - my main question is if there is a > software that is installed via ./run is there an easy way to uninstall it. > > thanks > ram > > -- > ubuntu-in mailing list > ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com > https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in > -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
[ubuntu-in] How to completely remove a software installed via ./run or
Hi I installed a version of sofytware (gnukhata) via a .run file there is a newer version available (1.3.3.) at gnukhata.in due to some issues i was advised to install the new version However there was / is not recommended method to uninstall the old version So i used the find command to find any references to gnukhata (in / /usr/bin /run / etc and so on) these i manually removed and then installed the new version 1.3.3 however post install i continue to get the old version in the about section. Now am unsure if the old version is still hanging around some where or the new version just has not updated the version number. But the above is by way of explanantion - my main question is if there is a software that is installed via ./run is there an easy way to uninstall it. thanks ram -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
