 Hello Tim,

The only reason I see for keeping support of weird old CPUs is for
people who have an old computer and they would like to linux-ize
it. I'm not sure if the old of today are computers running with
powerpc or non-PAE CPUs, so my original claim might be void.

I think these kind of computers will probably won't be installed
with Ubuntu at all, but X/Lubuntu might be a choice for them. As I
understand the kernel of Ubuntu is shared between the
 'sister-releases', am I right?

In poor countries, many places like schools use recicled computers
donated by enterprises, non-profits, etc. Dropping the non-PAE kernel
can be a problem in this context.

[Bug 761065] Re: [Sandybridge] Spurious *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle messages in dmesg when using compiz

2011-04-14 Thread Adilson Oliveira
I have the same issue here but I discovered that, if I run a 3D program like
celestia, nexuiz or even a 3d screensaver like one with the wireframe ant, the
problem vanishes with a -39 kernel. In a discussion with Chris Van Hoof today
he tells me he thinks the new kernel just masks the error but, at least to the
user's POV it actually solves it for the common applications the users run. I
kept nexuiz running for more than 2 hours and haven't noticed a single freeze.
I would like to ask the priority to be raised as this can affect many new
systems.

[Bug 356794] [NEW] Instalation in pt_BR shows Noronha as the default timezone

2009-04-06 Thread Adilson Oliveira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

When Brazilian Portuguese is selected for instalation, the default timezone
shown is Noronha (GMT-2). This is not really wrong as this is a valid timezone
but very unusual. The usual one is São Paulo (GMT-3). This was the behaviour
with Hardy so it's a regression.
How to reproduce the bug:
 - Select Brazilian Portuguese as the instalation language.
 - Follow the steps until the selection of timezone.
 - The default timezone shown is Noronha.
What should the correct behaviour:

Oi.

No final do ano passado eu fiz vários testes do Virtualbox 2.1 rodando

Na versão 2.1 já tem out of the box.

custo do AutoCAD.
funciona perfeitamente) e teste. Se resolver seu problema, tens aí um
argumento para a troca.

[Bug 280289] [NEW] [intrepid beta] The instalation CD is not ejected when using an external USB DVD unit

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

The test hardware is an Acer Aspire One with an externar DVD writer
Samsung model SE-5184. The installation proceeds normally until the
moment the message to remove the CD from the tray and press ENTER to
reboot is displayed. The led on the external unit blinks several times
but the CD is not ejected. Pushing the eject button also does not work.
Pressing ENTER causes the netbook reboot normally and after that I can
eject the CD by pushing the eject button on the unit. The same issue
does not happen installing 8.04.1.

[Bug 253746] [NEW] Instalation in pt_BR shows pt_PT as default

2008-07-31 Thread Adilson Oliveira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

In a clean installation in my notebook despite pt_BR (Brazilian Portuguese)
being selected during the first screen, when I started the installation proper,
ubiquity had (Portugal's) Portuguese selected and not Brazilian Portuguese.
After I selected the proper language, the installation continued with it.
Unfortunately I can't provide any debug right now as I can't try to install
again but I'll be happy to provide any specific information needed.

[Bug 253749] [NEW] [Intrepid] Even with instalation language set as pt_BR, USA keyboard was selected as default

2008-07-31 Thread Adilson Oliveira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

In a clean Intrepid Ibex Alpha 2 installation, I selected pt_BR (Brazilian
Portuguese) as the default language. When the keyboard selection screen

selected instead of the Brazil version (which, BTW, is known as ABNT-2).
Unfortunately I can't provide any debug information right now but feel free to

[Bug 251897] [NEW] 16Gb sdhc card is not correctly detected in Intrepid Ibex

2008-07-25 Thread Adilson Oliveira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.26-4-generic

Testing the instalation of Intrepid Ibex on a eeepc, I noticed that the a 16Gb
SDHC card wasn't being handled correctly. I could find the device's partitions
nodes but not the device node, i.e. /dev/sdb1 and /dev/sdb2 are there but not
/dev/sdb.
Cheking dmesg log gave me 2 strange lines after what seems to be a ok
attachement:
(12:34:05) agoliveira: Sense Key : Hardware Error [current]
(12:34:05) agoliveira: Add. Sense: Unrecovered read error.
Worth notice that the same procedure on Hardy works perfectly and the card
itself was tested.
Please find the relevant logs attached.
Thanks.

Hello.

MID-type devices.
The Ubuntu Netbook Remix is basically a standard Ubuntu desktop tweaked

Is there a way to setup configure.ac so that it automatically sets the

thought I recall that if LCIA arch then always USE_HILDON. I don't know
exactly how to do this or if we ever decided on a standard.

Hi Bob.

I usually add this rule to debian/rules

ifeq ($(DEB_BUILD_ARCH), lpia)
DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS = --enable-hildon
endif

Which causes the congiure be called with an extra --enable-hildon in
case the lpia arch is being build.

This, plus something like that in configure.ac or configure.in

hildon=false
HILDON_CFLAGS=
HILDON_LIBS=

AC_ARG_ENABLE(hildon,AS_HELP_STRING([--enable-hildon],[Turn on hildon
support]),[
if test x$enableval = xyes; then
  hildon=true
  PKG_CHECK_MODULES(HILDON,[hildon-1],
   HAVE_HILDON=yes,HAVE_HILDON=no)

  HILDON_CFLAGS=$HILDON_CFLAGS -DWITH_HILDON=1
  PACKAGE_CFLAGS=$PACKAGE_CFLAGS $HILDON_CFLAGS
  PACKAGE_LIBS=$PACKAGE_LIBS $HILDON_LIBS
   fi
])

Will enable a HAVE_HILDON flag you can test in building time to enable
or disable your changes for the lpia arch.
Check some of my sources. I've done all kinds of combinations using
autotools or just makefiles.

Hi there.

Moblin and UME are different projects. Moblin is, partially, UME's

Status report for Apr 10 to Apr 16

* Working on a clock application for the SoW. The bits are already in
place, sowing (no pun intended) all together now.
* Tested several different combinations to interface and present things
that could be interesting to be kept visible to the user as a clock,
calendar or a weather applet. The problem is that the current way to
present the menu enters in the way and takes the whole home space. The
native home applets work well thought and it's an alternative to the
current html interface. A little bit of cairo + xcompmgr does a lot of
difference visually, btw :)
