It's good to have a competition. The desktop Linux world wants Wayland,

miracle with Wayland.

Ok. Maganda yan. Somebody needs to create a customized distro first tuned
to our needs(that includes several people like graphic designers and sys
admins), then start the translation process.
If there is an application that needs to be translated to Cebuano or
Filipino languages, then I think I can provide a little time to help.
I already tried to translate the Ubuntu Software center to Filipino

We can remove all Server components sa Ubuntu base installation para mas

Ang mga Audio, video, graphics apps at Open Office ay pwede nang hindi

home folder mounted as a separate partition (need to enforce quotas)

3. around 25 desktops (home directory pathed to nfs/samba server

4. backup server for the pdc and file server and sql server (db is

backup and restore should be easy.

8. Print audit, who print, what, pages, with report summary.
softcopy of all print requests if available

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] POS system that can run on WINE

2010-11-02 Thread Allan E. Registos
You can also find a suitable POS that is web-based(i.e. cross platform), in
that you don't need Wine(Additional overhead).
Open source ERP is just a google away.

Why not use one that works natively on Linux, like openbravo?

Please bear with typos. Sent from android.

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] Welcome Michael Lunar

2010-10-26 Thread Allan E. Registos
Welcome to the Ubuntu GNU/Linux world... : - )
If you ever need some software to get installed in your system, the Software
Center, is your helper.
Installing a software in Windows Click Setup.exe is quite different in Linux,
and it is easier in Linux than in Windows as long as the software is present in
the Software Center.

hey...

am a newbie... just started using Ubuntu about three weeks ago. I was
attempting to install Windows7 on my laptop but for some reason I cannot. Even
with a clean install. My friend's got a 9.04 and he told me to wipe my laptop
clean by installing Ubuntu and clean install Windows7 after... didn't work!

And s... I got stuck with with the 9.04! BUT when the Update Manager showed
an Upgrade to 10.10, i clicked on upgrade and soon after... my laptop won't
start! Tried slipstreaming Windows... didn't work! Then I made a Pendrive
installer of Ubuntu10.04 following on-line instructions, installed it on my
laptop and have been enjoying Ubuntu since then.

I am a convert and have been showing my new OS (with the jiggling windows) to
my peers. One friend has actually installed Ubuntu using the Pendrive I
created. Am still discovering a lot of things about Ubuntu hence I joined the
Mailing list. Now... am a bit nervous about these changes you are talking about
here...

Sorry... am not a full time techie (or what some call a geek), I'm an above
average Windows user and would like to be formally doctrinized on Ubuntu...
Am really starting to like it but am beginning to be wary...

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] SJVN reports that Ubuntu changes its desktop from GNOME to Unity

2010-10-25 Thread Allan E. Registos
Actually as one commentator pointed this out, the title is SJVN's article is
misleading, it is not a departure from GNOME which is the desktop, but from
the default shell of Gnome. Unity can be understood as a counterpart or another
alternative of Gnome Shell which runs on top of Gnome.

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] OT: Ubuntu on Election Automation

2010-05-06 Thread Allan E. Registos
Thanks for that info. I've been watching closely the video shown in the TV news
lately, to see what OS they've been using at Smartmatic for configuring cf
cards. I noticed a top/bottom bars but I am not so sure, since I am also
thinking of a theory that it maybe a running program in full screen, so thank
you guys.

Anyway, has anyone bothered from the recent cf card issues??
I think their is a flaw in the design of Smartmatic PCOS machines the way it
counted votes, ok, as we believe that no system is 100% perfect, but as I see
it, it is more to error prone like the single and double spacing issue.
Anyway this is a separate topic, if you guys knew of where this topic was being
discussed, kindly provide me a link...

Cheers,
Allan

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] ubuntu-ph Digest, Vol 60, Issue 4

2010-03-28 Thread Allan E. Registos
I think you can just ask questions and post the relevant errors in your log.
Someone in this list will take a look at it and give you a piece of advice. I
don't know about Novell's networking protocol, I think it was IPX/SPX or NCP. I
believe it is not Samba that can talk to a Netware server(Samba's purpose is to
talk to Windows computers), I think it is
http://www.novell.com/products/clients/linux/overview.html.

Good Day Allan,

Thanks. Is it okay to post here my logs. Though I had install Ubuntu Server
9.10 and configure Samba and everything works well for now. I had transfer some
network folder from our Novell 3.12 server w/ a 10g HD. Yah, its 3.12( Super
luma na talaga). I still cant understand some of the logs. Hope someone can
tell that something is not right base on my logs.
