[ubuntu-in] Ubuntu 9.10 reaches end-of-life on April 30 2011 (Kate Stewart)
Ubuntu announced its 9.10 release almost 18 months ago, on October 29, 2009. As with the earlier releases, Ubuntu committed to ongoing security and critical fixes for a period of 18 months. The support period is now nearing its end and Ubuntu 9.10 will reach end of life on Friday, April 29, 2011. At that time, Ubuntu Security Notices will no longer include information or updated packages for Ubuntu 9.10. The supported upgrade path from Ubuntu 9.10 is via Ubuntu 10.04. Instructions and caveats for the upgrade may be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LucidUpgrades. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS continues to be actively supported with security updates and select high-impact bug fixes. All announcements of official security updates for Ubuntu releases are sent to the ubuntu-security-announce mailing list, information about which may be found at https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-security-announce. Since its launch in October 2004 Ubuntu has become one of the most highly regarded Linux distributions with millions of users in homes, schools, businesses and governments around the world. Ubuntu is Open Source software, costs nothing to download, and users are free to customise or alter their software in order to meet their needs. Be careful when upgrading the next few days. Thanks everyone who tested xorg-edgers. Feedback has been positive and everything looks good to go. We are currently uploading the dependencies for this new X stack into Natty, as you may have noticed. Our goal is to get it all in by Friday for the Alpha-2 release coming next week. We have already uploaded various prerequisites and dependencies. This includes major updates for libdrm and mesa, which are worth special mention. This includes improved OpenGL functionality, Sandy Bridge support, and a variety of bug fixes. For full details see http://mesa3d.org/relnotes-7.10.html. It also includes some changes to ABI packaging which may affect other packages dependent on libdrm driver packages. Please keep an eye out for regressions in 3D functionality or packaging issues associated with libdrm or mesa. A variety of driver updates is also planned for the coming week, including -intel, -ati, -nouveau, -synaptics, etc. We're going to try to get these updates in prior to the xserver update where possible. xserver 1.10 will be updated probably Wednesday or Thursday. This server has a new server and video ABI, which means existing driver packages will break. The server needs to be uploaded first so the new drivers build against the correct ABI, which means that there will be a period where safe upgrades will have held-back packages. The dependencies should ensure that you won't accidentally get a non-working combination of Xserver and drivers, but be careful if an upgrade wants to remove X packages. We are also going to be demoting several of the really obscure/ancient X drivers (apm, ark, chips, glide, i740, tseng, and voodoo; perhaps more) that no one seems to use. These will still be in the archive (for now) but will live only in universe and require manual installation by anyone that happens to need them. If you particularly care about any of these drivers, just let us know. -- -- ubuntu-devel mailing list ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel Regards Brian -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
[ubuntu-in] Setup differences in Ubuntu and arch.
Hi, My base system is.an Ubuntu 10.10 system. I also recently installed arch Linux. My point is want to know why so much different in setup on the network side for both Ubuntu and arch 1. In arch /etc/ there is no /network/interfaces file 2. Also to start stop networks there seems to be. Different My question is whether Ubuntu does a lot of customization or just the process differs in all distros. -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

if you have installed the 64bit version then just use update manager to have all up to date patches. Not sur why u want to update the iso. In any case as mentioned in the prev email, this cannot be done. - brian sent from my android phone On Aug 23, 2010 9:39 AM, "Onkar Shinde" wrote: On Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 9:34 AM, Narendra Diwate wrote: > I have the iso... The problem is some programs just dont run with 64bit system. I could not the 32bit internet connecting binary from my 64bit lucid install. Hence had to fall back on 32 bit. Also there are many programs just not available in 64 bit. - brian On Aug 18, 2010 10:39 AM, "Jkhatri" wrote: On Tuesday 17 August 2010 10:34 PM, Narendra Diwate wrote: > > > > On Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 22:21, S You have to install 32bit library If you have 64bit supported hardware then you should ( again should ) go with 64bit OSs I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Fedora 13 dual-boot ( both 64bit ) and runs fine on my Dell Inspiron 1564 core i5 processor, 4Gb DDR RAM , 1GB ATI Graphics cared Warm regards -- Jatin Khatri) Web www.khatrijatin.co.nr www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Jatin Phone (+91) 98250 20393 Save Paper, Save Environment.** *(Plant at least one tree in your life and nurture it !!!)* -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
