[Bug 1012419] Re: merge request: euca2ools from Debian sid (main)2.0.2-1

2012-06-13 Thread Brian Thomason
In reading Charles' changelog, he claimed the other patches had been
incorporated upstream. I will verify and return with a debdiff if
needed.

[Bug 1012419] [NEW] Sync request: euca2ools from Debian sid (main)2.0.2-1

2012-06-12 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

The current version of euca2ools in Precise is a beta version and has
broken eustore scripts in it. We have removed the eustore scripts
altogether and Debian has sponsored the upload into Sid. It
incorporates the last Ubuntu fix needed as well, so a straight sync

[Bug 900381] [NEW] Missing symbols in openssl 1.0.0e-2ubuntu4

2011-12-05 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

There appear to be missing symbols in the Ubuntu build of 1.0.0e in
Precise:

http://pastebin.com/dNNw98sf

Missing might not be the best word, as they are there:

brian@brian-desktop:~$ nm /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.a |grep MD5
nm: ebcdic.o: no symbols
0230 T MD5_Final
0360 T MD5_Init
0220 T MD5_Transform
 T MD5_Update
 R MD5_version
 T MD5
 U MD5_Final
 U MD5_Init
 U MD5_Update
 U MD5_Final
 U MD5_Init
 U MD5_Update

However, when attempting to link with -lcrypto and -lssl, the pastebin
error above is thrown.

I downloaded 1.0.0e from Debian SID and it does NOT display the same
problem - it links fine.

Many thanks for the info there - it is much appreciated.

I will look into which is more appropriate, a profile or a patch, but
this definitely shouldn't be non-overrideable in Ubuntu as A.) All of
our Partner packages install here by default and B.) All user-submitted
apps do as well.

Not a big deal though, thanks again for the info!

[Bug 821096] [NEW] dotdee feature request: switching between conffiles

2011-08-04 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

Sometimes a package needs to replace a configuration file completely
that resides in another package, rather than the usual case of simply
appending to it, which is the standard usage of dotdee. A good example
of this is nginx (tomcat6 another). Some packages already provide such
functionality on their own, such as apache, with the sites/modules
enabled/disabled paradigm.

It would be nice if dotdee had a solution, similar to alternatives,
where conffiles could be switched between.

[Bug 821112] [NEW] dotdee feature request

2011-08-04 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

This is more of an abstract request, and may not end up making sense in
the end. I just wanted to get my thoughts written down.

For some config files, it seems to make sense to me to split them up
into logical sections, For instance, with the Cloud Foundry package we
did, I attempted to split up their conf files (which are not stored in
/etc, nor marked as conffiles for that matter) into logical sections. A
better example might be the /etc/gnome/defaults.list file.

It is a list of mimetypes and the default application to be used when
opening them. There have been a few occasions with DVD player
companies, where they want to change the default handler for
dvd/vcd/mpeg2, etc... The default case of dotdee would work here, but
given the size of the file, it might be nice if dotdee could split it
into smaller files, i.e. 50-multimedia, 50-text, etc...

[Bug 817664] [NEW] FTBFS: ruby-rspec-core, ruby-rspec-expectations, ruby-rspec-mocks

2011-07-28 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

The following three source packages were once part of the same source
package, but the developer recently split them up:

ruby-rspec-core
ruby-rspec-expectations
ruby-rspec-mocks

However, they each build-depend upon one another due to the fact
functionality from each is needed to properly run their respective test
suites.

After speaking with one of the Debian maintainers, Tobias Grimm, and
Kees Cook from the security team, it was determined that the best course
of action would be to:

1.) Remove the circular build dep and disable the test suite on initial upload
to bootstrap the packages
2.) Add the build-deps and test suite functionality back into place and upload
again

[Bug 816169] [NEW] When using Ensemble, add-apt-repository no longer functions properly

2011-07-25 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

One of the changes made between Jul 22-25 caused add-apt-repository to
quit working when being called from within an ensemble formula:

+ apt-add-repository ppa:cloudfoundry/ppa

2011-07-25 22:55:32,383: hook.output@ERROR: Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize:
Unable to get the locale encoding
  File /usr/lib/python2.7/encodings/__init__.py, line 123
raise CodecRegistryError,\
^

2011-07-25 22:55:32,384: hook.output@ERROR: SyntaxError: invalid syntax

Ensemble does not set many env vars, so this may be the culprit.

When running this from within an Ensemble script on an Oneiric install,
the error above is yielded, and while the file in sources.list.d is
written, it uses sid for the distro rather than oneiric.

If manually logging in and subsequently running the command, everything
works as it should, which leads me to believe it is an env var issue.

[Bug 797718] Re: sun java 6u26 needs packaging

2011-07-12 Thread Brian Thomason
No, unfortunately it isn't technically possible at this time to automate
that, and I'm not sure it's desirable. Just because the update works
soundly on Debian Sid does not mean it works on top of Lucid in the same
manner.

That being said, I just uploaded this fix to Lucid and Maverick and
Natty will follow shortly.

[Bug 797718] Re: sun java 6u26 needs packaging

2011-07-10 Thread Brian Thomason
Hi Vistaus,

The security team isn't responsible for packages in the Canonical
Partner Repository - that would rest solely with me. One month is too
long - I need to get back in contact with the Debian developer and sync
their packages soon after they are released.

Flash updates are handled promptly because we have a good relationship
with Adobe in that regard. Unfortunately, no such relationship exists
with Oracle at this point.

[Bug 803023] [NEW] For Purchase Apps: Console description should be authoritative

2011-06-28 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

an we, just for For Purchase apps, *always* show the description that is
entered in the dev portal rather than showing the long desc in the
control file after the package is installed. Right now we package first
and publish later; often times, the vendor doesn't provide me a
description so I have to find one on their website or create one, or
even if they do, they often change it at the last minute resulting in
the description being (sometimes vastly) different pre-install versus
post-install.

I would prefer, and from talking to a couple of vendors they would as
well, that the Dev Portal description be authoritative.

[Bug 552830] Re: Software UltraEdit whose price is free is asking for $39.95 + taxes

2011-06-21 Thread Brian Thomason
For what it's worth, the vendor is not using a bait and switch. This
application was published in the Partner reop before we had the ability
for For Purchase apps. The Partner repo does not support the proper
specification of a license. We are looking into moving it into the For
Purchase section now though.

[Bug 761838] [NEW] software-center caches too aggressively

2011-04-15 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

Michael recently fixed a bug whereby packages with a . in their name
would not properly display their icon in the software center listings.
(The fluendo codecs, as an example) However, the icons still failed to
show up until I manually deleted my software center cache and restarted
the app.

Caching in general seems to be a bit too aggressive as it can be ~1 hour
before new apps show up, for instance. It would be nice if there were
some sort of Reload button.

[Bug 731711] Re: mkv files with dvdsub broken after installing Fluendo Complete Playback Pack

2011-03-16 Thread Brian Thomason
Hi Jonathan,

No, he hasn't uploaded the fix - he has agreed to upload future versions
(to Debian) without the Conflicts/Replaces/Provides in place as it is no
longer necessary. (He is a MOTU though, so does have upload access to
Universe where the -bad package resides)

gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux no longer resides in Debian, or Ubuntu
after Lucid. You can grab the source from Lucid if you'd like.

I have verified that the demuxer files are no longer named the same and
slomo has assured me that none of their symbols are the same anymore
either, so in Lucid, the two seem to co-exist fine.

[Bug 736332] [NEW] Product bundles in the software center

2011-03-16 Thread Brian Thomason
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

It would be nice if, for paid apps, the software center was product
rather than package centric.

For instance, a vendor may have multiple games/applications and want to
offer various bundles with varying discounts. Packages should be able to
be a part of any number of different bundles.

These bundles should be presented to the user as a single item, but
allow for drilling down in the product page to view the individual
items associated with it.

2011-01-12 Thread Brian Thomason
I'm uploading a build with the archlinux patch for natty for those that
might find it helpful.

It looks like this was fixed upstream with a modified version of this
patch as of 6.10b, so the best effort to get this fixed now would be to:

A.) Ensure 6.10b works as expected
B.) Ensure 6.10b is in natty by feature freeze

Then the process of doing an SRU for Maverick and Lucid could begin.

[Bug 676742] Re: Adobe Reader Firefox Add-On not honoring user preferences

2010-12-20 Thread Brian Thomason
I am unable to reproduce this on amd64 Maverick running acroread 9.4.1.
Can you update your Firefox and Adobe Reader packages and see if the
problem still exists?

Thanks!

[Bug 672109] Re: Loading www.yamana.com freezes Firefox and Linux. Reboot required

2010-11-15 Thread Brian Thomason
Well that explains it - 64 bit isn't supported yet :-) We should be
officially releasing it in Aprilish.

[Bug 674190] Re: Stuck in Upgrade Loop

2010-11-11 Thread Brian Thomason
Hi Christopher,

This is indeed a bug, and as of now, unfortunately, there is no way to
stop it. It will be fixed in the next release.

I made a boo boo and released 2.5 prematurely, and Adobe asked that I
pull it. In order to do that, I epoched the (the 1: in front of the
version if you aren't familiar with epochs) latest 2.0.4 release.
Unfortunately, Adobe's autoupdate feature can't handle epochs. Their
autoupdater is designed to download the latest version from their site
when their version checking fails.

More unfortunately, their latest version doesn't have the epoch applied,
so that when it is installed, our update-notifier tries to install the
epoched version. So yes, it is a loop.

For now, please just ignore updating to the version in Partner and
leave the 2.5 version on your system. This will be addressed in the
next 2.5 release which should come shortly.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

-Brian

[Bug 672109] Re: Loading www.yamana.com freezes Firefox and Linux. Reboot required

2010-11-11 Thread Brian Thomason
Hi,

Can you verify which version of Adobe Flash you are using? (you can type
about:plugins in Firefox to see)

I don't see this issue on my i386 Lucid with the latest flash installed
using Firefox 3.6.8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1. It may very well
be a Firefox issue, but I want to ensure what version of Flash you are
running before I test further.

Thanks!

Hi Nicola,

I just tested acroread on amd64 maverick and it seems to work fine. Can
you run the following and provide me the output.

dpkg -l |grep ia32
dpkg -l acroread

Thanks!
