[Bug 1842320] Re: Out of Memory on boot with 5.2.0 kernel

2022-04-01 Thread Callum L
I have this issue on my Dell XPS 9380. I can boot 5.13.0.35, but 0.37
and 0.39 simply show the error: out of memory.

I have tried changing my GFXMODE to 800x600x24, which hwinfo lists as a
supported resolution, but grub just ignores it? Same with timeout?
It just shows in the 4K native res every time, almost as if it's
taunting me.

Eventually the 0.35 kernel will be deleted by a system update, and my
system will be bricked. I guess I'm going to need to reinstall, aren't
I?

[Bug 1938013] Re: 4.15.0-151 is freezing various Intel machines (i5-3gen, i5-5gen reported)

2021-07-28 Thread Callum Fare
I'm seeing similar behavior after updating to 4.15.0-151, with multiple
crashes and hangs. My CPU is a i7-6600U.

The message in the dmesg log from the last crash is 'BUG: unable to
handle kernel paging request at 006a18e6bfe5'

I've attached the full trace in case that helps. I also seemingly have
some older (but after updating to 4.15.0-151) crash logs in /var/crash/
that I can also share if these are helpful.

[ubuntu-uk] New to Ubuntu

2020-04-13 Thread Peter Callum
Hello.
I am new to this and am having a few problems with what the best way of
getting assistance is. I keep getting messages from livepatch saying that
there is a problem. Also need to know if I can register for some paid
assistance in the UK.
Any help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

[Bug 1774302] Re: package gridengine-master 8.1.9+dfsg-7build1 failed to install/upgrade: installed gridengine-master package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 139

2019-08-21 Thread Callum Lewis-Smith
I have been grappling with this issue myself over the last couple of
weeks and can confirm using the spooldefaults.bin, libspooldb.so and
libspoolc.so from the Debian gridengine-client APT package, linked by
christophprobst resolved the issue.

However, I have also been able to compile and install the gridengine
client from the Debian source tarball for 8.1.9+dfsg-9 and haven't
encountered any segfaults.

[Bug 1806472] Re: RTL8822BE WiFi Disabled in Kernel 4.18.0-12

2019-02-11 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Didn't test this on a full install but enabled the 4.18.0-16 signed
kernel through the cosmic-proposed repository on a Bionic install. Works
fine! mokutil reports secure-boot enabled and release shows as 4.18.0-16
:)

It should be noted that just installing this kernel itself did not fix
the issue, the kernel-modules-extra package must be installed!

Thanks.

[Bug 1806472] Re: RTL8822BE WiFi Disabled in Kernel 4.18.0-12

2019-01-14 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Hey,

This kernel seems to be working fine on a fresh install of KDE Neon
(based on Bionic). I had to roll back due to other reasons, but
installing this kernel has fixed it for me here. If you require any logs
let me know.

Short of reinstalling to 18.10 I haven't got a way to test it on there,
unfortunately.

Hopefully it won't break when Realtek releases the rewritten driver :)

[Bug 1806472] Re: RTL8822BE WiFi Disabled in Kernel 4.18.0-12

2019-01-10 Thread Callum Hutchinson
So, the driver was previously unsigned, then signed and included in the
original Ubuntu kernel for 18.10, then subsequently unsigned during an
update somewhere along the way?

That doesn't make sense to me - would have to try and find upstream to work out
what has happened.
Larry Finger suggests that Realtek has rewritten the driver and his GitHub repo
is only for older kernels that do not already ship the r8822be driver. 4.21 is
quoted as when this new driver will drop.

[Bug 1806472] [NEW] RTL8822BE WiFi Disabled in Kernel 4.18.0-12

2018-12-03 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Public bug reported:

Received kernel patch 4.18.0-12 today on my machine. On reboot my WiFi appears
to be unavailable.
lspci still recognises the installed RTL8822BE card and a reboot back to the
previous kernel version (4.18.0-11) seems to resolve the problem.

We tried some debugging in the IRC channel and didn't get very far. The
r8822be module alias is intact, trying to modprobe it or insert results
in a "operation not permitted" error. Modprobing mac80211 and cfg80211
which r8822be depends on did not seem to help.

[Bug 1801537] [NEW] Mouse input lag and stuttering audio USB ('irq 18: nobody cared')

2018-11-03 Thread Callum Fare
Public bug reported:

With both the latest lowlatency kernel on 18.10 (4.18.0-10) and
previously with 4.15 on 18.04 the system is barely usable due to input
lag from the mouse and stuttering audio. This only starts a minute or
two after startup. Despite this graphics performance seems unaffected
and the CPU usage isn't abnormal. Both my mouse and audio device are USB
devices, and the dmesg log shows problems with the irq I think is
associated with the USB controller.

This issue does not exist in any mainline kernel I've tried -
4.16.0-041600-lowlatency, 4.18.0-041800-lowlatency,
4.19.0-041900-lowlatency. This suggests the issue is specific to the
Ubuntu kernel.

I've tried booting with the 'irqpoll' option but this didn't make any
difference.

[Bug 1730550] Re: e1000e in 4.4.0-97-generic breaks 82574L under heavy load.

2017-11-27 Thread Callum Lewis-Smith
As far as I can work out I was having the issues described here at the
end of last week.

On Friday afternoon I installed Joseph's patched kernel and I am no
longer getting my NICs dropping out under heavy load. I would be
interested to hear how others have been getting on with this patch?

[Bug 1314095] Re: Unity Lockscreen in 14.04 can't unlock when using LDAP account

2014-05-24 Thread Callum Dickinson
Hi, I'd just like to chime in here and say that the workaround specified
in #2 works for me, as well. I'm running Kerberos 5 authentication with
LDAP user accounts, LightDM with Unity greeter and lock screen. Ubuntu
14.04 LTS on both server and clients.

[Bug 1142385] Re: B43 Wireless Autoconnect Failure

2013-11-19 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Hi, sorry I'm afraid I just don't have the time right now to reinstall Ubuntu
and give it the testing you're asking for.
As such I think the bug needs to remain in it's current state, I cannot test
the upstream kernel nor install a dev build of Ubuntu.
If there's anything I need to do to 'close' the bug just let me know.

[Bug 1228798] [NEW] Mini display port not working

2013-09-22 Thread callum
Public bug reported:

I am trying to use the mini display port to connect to an external
monitor using the mini display port. I have confirmed this works using
another laptop. When plugging this into my Ubuntu machine (Dell XPS17)
the monitor is not detected.

There is no screen flash or anything in the Xorg log or dmseg that
suggests the port has been plugged in.

I have tried adding the monitor using the following:
xrandr --addmode DP1 800x600
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 800x600 --right-of LVDS1

Which results in the laptop screen flashing but not the external monitor
and the following is printed to the terminal:

xrandr: Configure crtc 1 failed

xrandr -q gives the following:

 xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected 1600x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 382mm x

   1440x900 59.9
   1360x768 59.8 60.0
   1152x864 60.0

VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
   800x60060.3

I have also tried updating to the latest intel driver by using:

intel-linux-graphics-installer

This succeeded however has not solved my issue.

I also have bumblebee installed however I understand that on this
machine the mini display port runs from the intel chip so this should
not be impacting this issue. I include this information incase it might.

I am more that happy to run any diagnostics required to help resolve
this issue.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

[Bug 1142385] Re: B43 Wireless Autoconnect Failure

2013-05-01 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Interesting, so we both definitely have the same card and are affected by the
same issue. What do you get when you run the firmware-b43-installer? Does the
terminal output anything about an unsupported device with the PCI ID tag?
Odd that rc8 of 3.9 seemed to fix this and then the final 3.9 kernel (which I'm
sure is virtually the same?) seemed to fix it for you.
I will reinstall again later and try the rc8 kernel and see if the fix is
present for me.

2013-04-30 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Hmm, what card is it in your Macbook? I just reinstalled Raring and installed
the freshly released 3.9 kernel and installed b43-fwcutter and
firmware-b43-installer.
I'm still getting the unsupported device error upon executing the installer
command. I'll try the BCM kernel source listed in additional drivers and see if
that does anything.

[Bug 1142385] Re: B43 Wireless Autoconnect Failure

2013-03-24 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Here's something else interesting, if I disable wifi and re-enable it after
manually connecting the connection is fine. It's as if you have to tell the
card that the ESSID is what it is and then it'll connect no problems.
Also curiously, apparently the wlan0 interface doesn't exist and hence, running
other iwlist commands there are no settings related to it. iwlist suggests the
device is there but unconfigured, iwconfig says the device doesn't exist at
all, and yet it works clear as day if you manually connect (I'm typing on here
right now.)

Hi all,
I've found in raring that there are no window controls obviously visible in the
titlebar for Java applications. I've tested using Oracle's Java 7 and 8

[Bug 1142385] Re: B43 Wireless Autoconnect Failure

2013-03-04 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Also forgot to mention, ran 'apt-get install --reinstall
firmware-b43-installer' and it downloaded fine, went to post config run it and
said something along the lines of 'Aborting: Unsupported Device 14e4:4331'.
4331 happens to be the card's model number in the Mac mini I have.
Hope this helps.

[Bug 1142385] [NEW] Hidden Wireless Autoconnect Failure

2013-03-03 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Public bug reported:

Hi all,
I installed raring to test whether this bug existed in it and quantal too. In
the 3.8+ kernels there seems to be an issue with the b43 drivers, my wireless
works however it won't automatically connect to my hidden wireless network. I
have to go into network manager on each login and manually select the option to
connect, it takes a while but then the connection works fine.
I know this didn't exist in 3.7.x because I was using those kernels absolutely
fine, it's only when I tried 3.8 on both quantal and raring that the issue
arose.
Note: I can't edit the wireless settings on my network as I am not the
administrator in my house.

[Bug 365874] Re: curl error: necessary data rewind wasn't possible

2013-02-26 Thread Callum Macdonald
I receive this error when pushing to a bzr+https:// repository since
installing pycurl. Prior to pycurl's installation, the push command
worked. Since I installed pycurl, it now throws the necessary data
rewind wasn't possible error. In my case, using https+urllib:// is not
an option as my host does not support the plain HTTPS protocol.

Is there a way to force bzr to use urllib insteasd of pycurl while also
using the bzr+https:// protocol? I tried bzr+https+urllib:// for
example, but that does not work.

[Bug 1096119] [NEW] No microphone input on Internet Telephony.

2013-01-04 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Public bug reported:

I managed to do a skype call the other day and all was well, I go to do one
today and there's no microphone going out. I tried an Empathy GTalk call to
test that, same problem there.
However, I can open up Mumble, that still works and sound recorder still works.
My mic is being detected in sound settings and I can boost it accordingly.

[Bug 1080043] [NEW] RT3090BC4 Bluetooth won't work without reboot.

2012-11-17 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Public bug reported:

This bug has been previously reported for 11.04 and was 'patched' but
not effectively.

The RT3090BC4 card in my laptop works fine on the WiFi front as of Linux
3.0 however, the Bluetooth is hit and miss. Usually I have it disabled
as I don't use it that often and it drains battery, but once in a while
the need arises. You can turn the Bluetooth on and off during a normal
session but anything else such as setting up a device is a no
go...unless you reboot with Bluetooth switched on and then it works as
expected, if you then reboot again with Bluetooth off the steps to
enable it must be repeated, if left on it'll still be enabled upon
reboot.

Running Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64
Kernel 3.5.0-18-generic

[Bug 1039105] [NEW] SSL support

2012-08-20 Thread Callum Macdonald
Public bug reported:

There appears to be a branch of mod_rpaf which supports setting an SSL header,
according to this:
https://github.com/gnif/mod_rpaf#readme

I'm not very familiar with Ubuntu / Debian packaging, I can't figure out
where the code that version 0.6.7 is built from, I'm not sure if
multiple versions of mod_rpaf are being maintained. The GitHub version
supports a different option format with underscores added into the
configuration directives.

It would be great to see SSL support included in the version of mod_rpaf
in Ubuntu. The version on GitHub appears to be tagged as 0.8.2.

[Bug 781556] Re: bluetooth discovery fails: no devices found during scan

2012-06-26 Thread Callum Hutchinson
Not sure on the progress on this but while toying around the other day under
Wubi on my HP G62-B18SA notebook I found that by default Bluez does not support
the wifi card entirely, however, Blueman does. The only issue I have found with
Blueman is that the wifi card tends to be enabled by default on startup much
like the script or patch described above.
Can anyone confirm this?

[Bug 523610] Re: rsyslogd spins CPU on some kernels

2012-06-24 Thread Callum Macdonald
I had what I believe to be the same issue on 12.04 Precise 2.6.32-12-pve
x86_64 running in a Proxmox container. I downloaded
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/r/rsyslog/rsyslog_4.2.0-2ubuntu8_amd64.deb,
installed, and now the error messages are no longer appearing.

Does this bug need to be re-opened? A new bug filed? It's showing fix-
released but apparently the issue (or a variation) still exists.

[Bug 991917] [NEW] Compiz fails to start on Ubuntu 12.04 after installing Nvidia graphic drivers.

2012-04-30 Thread Callum Johnston
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I had recently updated to Ubuntu 12.04 with a fresh install, I went to
additional drivers to install the Nvidia drivers and after a rebooted i
was greeted to a black screen that lasted for a while then the
wallpaper came up an error then popped up saying that Compiz could not
start, i managed to uninstall the driver by right clicking on the
wallpaperChange desktop background and then All Settings and then i
rebooted. After Ubuntu rebooted and the driver was uninstalled
everything was working as it was before. The Nvidia graphics drivers
work in Ubuntu 11.04 11.10 but not in 12.04.

Thanks.

[Bug 968120] Re: Pressing alt clears text selection

2012-03-30 Thread Callum Macdonald
@Stefan: Right click, copy password is slightly slower for me than
double/triple clicking the password. I work around the bug by moving my
cursor off the Revelation window (which based on my settings makes
another window active) then using alt-tab.

[Bug 968120] [NEW] Pressing alt clears text selection

2012-03-29 Thread Callum Macdonald
Public bug reported:

I reported this bug some time ago on a previous Ubuntu version and it
was marked as invalid, but it definitely still exists. I've tested on a
Guest session, and the bug exists there.

I don't know if the bug is Revelation wide, or specific to Ubuntu, so
I'm reporting it here first.

Steps to recreate:
1) Create a new password file
2) Create a new password entry
3) Preferences General Passwords Display passwords and other secrets
check
4) Double / triple click password to select text
5) Press the alt key

At this point, the text selection disappears and the cursor is flashing
at the start of the password.

The typical workflow for me is select password, alt-tab back to
application, middle click to paste password. This bug breaks this
workflow because pressing alt clears the text selection.

I've reported this on the Revelation bugtracker also.

As an aside, the revelation-bugs project here on Launchpad points at the

[Bug 929535] [NEW] With Dodge Windows deactivated, Workspace Switcher shows the launcher area as an empty space in workspace previews

2012-02-09 Thread Callum Saunders
Public bug reported:

With the launcher being a permanent feature of the desktop now the
workspace switcher should just show the area between launcher and top

[Bug 821342] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2011-09-12 Thread Callum Williams
Well this is good... I started up my laptop to read the backtrace page and set
it up and nautilus didn't crash. I have restarted my laptop several times and
it won't crash. Oh the irony :)
Can I set up the backtrace to run all the time for nautilus? Just in case it
starts crashing again?

[Bug 821342] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2011-09-06 Thread Callum Williams
Two seconds after everything has loaded on my 11.10 desktop it crashes every
single time without fail.
Also it crashes when I switch user and then log back in.
At least it's consistent :)

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 828363 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/828363

bug #828363 isn't the same.. thats a colour issue, this bug is regarding
the graininess of the unity graphics themselves.
