Kubuntu Council Nomination
Greetings, My name is David Wonderly (Darkwing on IRC) and I wish to run for reelection to the Kubuntu Council. For those who may not know, I am a community guy. This being said, there are a few things I want to do over the next couple years. I had started posting to the Kubuntu Forums trying to bridge the gap between the developers and community, I had to stop due to some person life issues that have been taken care of and I would like to bring that back. My goal is to be always there for the Community, to hear your concerns and comments and try to be a good voice for the community on the Council. I'm also planning on continueing my doc work as well. [Ubuntu-US-CA] US-CA Loco Leadership
Greetings, For the last few years it has been a joy and a privilage to be a part of the US-CA Leadership team. As many of you know my life has been going through some major changes and one of the changes is that I am relocating to the state of Indiana. Because of this change it is only fair and right that I step down from my position in the US-CA team and allow someone that will be living in the state to help out and be a part of the team. The ride I have had in the team has taught me a lot and I am not vanishing completely. You all have become a part of my family and for everything everyone has done, thank you. I have already been in contact with the US-IN team and will be continuing my work with Ubuntu Loco teams in Indiana when I move there. I will be in Southern California until friday morning when I fly out. Thank you all for everything and good luck! Cheers! Kubuntu Documentation
Greetings everyone. I wanted to thank everyone who worked on the Kubuntu Docs for 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). Thanks to your dedication and hard work we not only finished on time but, we also got the translations worked on and finished too! Thank you all so much! So, with all of that said, I would like to welcome you all the the development cycle for Kubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin. The BZR branch of lp:kubuntu-docs now reflects precise and is open for editing. Please, please please please use the blueprint for this.[1] I am begging you. :) It makes tracking s much simpler. If you have ANY questions on how to use launchpad blueprints as it relates to work items please read this. [2] Anyway, because this will be a LTS release I want to ensure that this is our best doc cycle yet. This is why I am asking that we all chip in. I will be re- writing the doc guide and have that ready to go shortly. Stay tuned for that. So, in closing, I am looking forward to working with the ones I spent oneiric with in crunch time and I am looking forward to making new friends in this documentation adventure! Cheers! Nominations will be open from the receipt of the email till 1900 Pacific Time on 16 October, 2011. You can either self nominate (Recommended) or you can nominate someone else. PLEASE NOTE: If you nominate someone else PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ensure that this person wishes to be nominated. The nominations are simple. Please add the relevant information onto the wiki page [3] and they will be nominated. Once the nominations are in, if there are any questions on someones wish to be nominated they will be addressed. [Bug 810327] Re: [Fujitsu Amilo] Synaptics touchpad ceases functioning after suspend and resume
I also have a Dell Vostro V13 and am dealing with this issue. I have found a decent workaround for it though. What you want to do is make a script that will execute on resume. Have a look at folder /etc/pm/sleep.d/ - all scripts within this folder are automatically run as root-user after/before suspend or hibernate. The script needs to fit this example: #!/bin/bash case $1 in hibernate|suspend) ACTION BEFORE SUSPEND/HIBERNATE ;; thaw|resume) ACTION AFTER RESUME ;; *) ;; esac exit $? I had already made this script as ps.sh: #!/bin/bash rmmod psmouse modprobe psmouse So, I just tossed the two together and this is how it works: sudo touch /etc/pm/sleep.de/99-touchpad-restart.sh sudo chmod +x /etc/pm/sleep.de/99-touchpad-restart.sh sudo nano /etc/pm/sleep.de/99-touchpad-restart.sh #!/bin/bash case $1 in thaw|resume) /home/darkwingduck/ps.sh/dev/null ;; *) ;; esac exit $? Works like a charm. I know it's not a perm fix, but it works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810327 Title: [Fujitsu Amilo] Synaptics touchpad ceases functioning after suspend and resume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/810327/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hey Tony, I am also in the San Diego area (Imperial Beach) and I would love to meet up for some Ubuntu related things. I have a weird schedule, so I'm usually not really up to doing much during normal day hours. However, I wouldn't mind meeting local people some time in the future when schedules can come together. I have my own health issues, so I don't always have a lot of energy. What I'm getting at is that I can't really predict what's a good time for me to meet because of various factors. If something becomes more definite with my schedule and other things, I'll certainly post here. Thank you very much for the offer and I'll certainly keep it in mind. It's very refreshing to find a nice, welcoming community. Every list has at least one troll, but I seem to have found their hideout in the last group. I installed Alpha 3 to check it out. When I tried to boot up, there was just a curser flashing in the upper left corner. I loaded 10.04 Live and ran sudo update-grub, no change. After that I re-installed Ubuntu 10.04 over the Natty install, no change in the grub. If I put a live disk in, I can get to grub, but I can't load with out a disk. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PDT on both days. NASA's first Open Source Summit will bring together engineers, policy makers and members of the open source community. Participants will discuss the challenges within the existing open source policy framework and propose modifications to facilitate NASA's development, release and use of software. Open source brings numerous benefits to NASA software projects, including increased quality, reduced development costs, faster development cycles and reduced barriers for public-private collaboration to commercialize agency technology said NASA's Chief Technology Officer for Information Technology Chris C. Kemp. The full benefits of open source can only be achieved if NASA is able to establish the processes, policies and culture needed to encourage and support open source development. Goals for the summit include establishing a method to support collaboration with the public throughout the development lifecycle; exploring NASA's ability to release and develop software under varied open source licenses; determining whether and to what extent NASA can participate in open source software governance bodies; and gleaning best practices from private industry and other federal agencies. Guest speakers will provide insights into best practices and share valuable lessons learned in building and using open source communities. Confirmed speakers include Kemp; Pascal Finette, director of Mozilla Labs; Robert Sutor, vice president of Open Systems at IBM; Chris Wanstrath, CEO and co-founder of Github; and Brian Stevens, CTO and vice president of Worldwide Engineering at Red Hat. The summit will include sessions on licensing, government restrictions, such as the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, governance, and risk assessments. Seating at the event is limited. However, virtual participation is open to the public through online media, including live video streaming, electronic discussion and collaborative note taking. [Ubuntu-US-CA] Fwd: Natty Alpha 3 Released!

Pre-releases of Natty are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs. Alpha 3 is the third in a series of milestone CD images that will be released throughout the Natty development cycle. New packages showing up in this release include: * LibreOffice 3.3.1 * Unity 3.6.0 * Linux Kernel 2.6.38-rc6. * Upstart 0.9 * Dpkg 1.16.0-pre + multi-arch snapshot The Alpha images are known to be reasonably free of show stopper CD build or installer bugs, while representing a very recent snapshot of Natty. Re: [Ubuntu-US-CA] Meeting Notes from 10NOV10
Greetings Landon! I am sure that there will be many talks upcoming in the ML for the Website and the PodCasts. As for packaging there are two good places to go for this. There are the Masters Of The Universe (MOTU https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU ) They maintain the Universe and Multiverse components in Ubuntu Repositories. Alternatively here is the Ubuntu Packaging Guide. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide I hope this helps you and if you need anything else please feel free to let us know Dave On Tuesday, November 09, 2010 04:39:36 pm Landon Blake wrote: David and Others, I'm an Ubuntu user in Stockton, California. Thanks, Nathan Original Announcement (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-classroom/2010-October/000225.html): Hello everyone, It is my great honor to be able to announce a new Ubuntu Classroom event that will be taking place: LoCo Days [1] ! To quote the wiki, Most Classroom sessions done in the Ubuntu community are done in English. However, we have a large LoCo community as well. LoCo Days were designed to encourage LoCo Teams to start doing more Classroom sessions in their native languages. The first set of LoCo Days will take place from Friday, November 5th, 2010 - Sunday, November 7th, 2010. Sessions, to be given in the LoCo's native language, will focus will be on different LoCo-related HowTos. Some possible topics might include: How to host an Ubuntu Hour, How to start a Loco team, or How to organize a release party. Sessions will be lead by groups from different LoCos; there will be very few (if any) individuals hosting sessions. In order for this event to work, we need as many different LoCo teams to volunteer to lead sessions as possible. Sessions can take place any time during Friday, November 5th, 2010 - Sunday, November 7th, 2010, so LoCo teams should have no issue finding a convenient time. If you are interested in leading a session, please let either myself or another member of the Classroom Management Team [2] know so that we can add you to the schedule.
