[Bug 1417520] Re: Software updater claims not enough space on /boot to perform upgrades

2015-02-03 Thread Eduard Grebe
Actually, in the past using aptitude to perform the upgrades after this
message worked. This time it didn't until I manually removed some old
kernals, presumably freeing up space on the boot partition.

I also get the crash after entering password and while it's supposed to
be installing the bootloader. The resulting USB disc is not bootable.

me from installing ubuntu on multiple machines at work (that do not have

I should clarify: the problem is most pronounced not in the song title,
but in the artist and album names (in smaller text following the song
title).

[Bug 1033572] [NEW] Shotwell 0.12.3 consumes massive amount of RAM if auto-import is on and you have a large photo library

2012-08-06 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

When initially trying to import all of my photos (about 27 000, man
RAWs), Shotwell kept crashing. I discovered it ran out of memory during
the operation. I finally managed to get it to finish by increasing my
swap space to 32GB.

However, everytime I launch the application while the watch library
directory for new files option is switched on, it starts an auto-import
process (even if there are no new files) and the application ends up
consuming a huge amount of RAM that it never releases. As you can see in
the attached screenshot, the application -- which had been running for
some time, no new photos to import -- is using more than 15GB of memory.

2012-08-06 Thread Eduard Grebe
Launchpad won't let me link the upstream bug report.

First, it says that Shotwell bugs are tracked at http://trac.yorba.org ,
while it is in fact redmine.yorba.org.

Second, it claims not to recoginise this bug tracker URL:

[Bug 1012054] [NEW] Bluetooth mouse is extremely sensitive despite sensitivity and acceleration set to minimum

2012-06-12 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

I am using an Apple Magic Mouse (bluetooth) with a MacBook Air (late
2010) running an up-to-date installation of Ubuntu 12.04. Despite
setting both acceleration and sensitivity to the minimum settings in the
Control Centre, the mouse is extremely sensitive when used on the built-
in (11) display. Please note the following:

1) The trackpad sensitivity is fine
2) The mouse sensitivity is decent when used on a large external display (22)

I would be happy to provide further details, but I was unsure against
which package to report the issue or how to collect relevant debugging
information.

[Bug 1012290] [NEW] Triangular active tab indicator makes no sense with Attachments tab

2012-06-12 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

The little triangular UI element indicating which tab (Home,
messages, replies...) is currently active doesn't make visual sense
when used on the attachments tab, where a Images, links, videos
selector is inserted above the indicator. In this case it appears to be
referring to one of the attachment type indicators rather than to the
tabs bar above that.

See attached screenshot.

[Bug 283500] Re: Synaptic, update-manager, apt-get and wget should share proxy settings

I also continue to see this issue in 12.04. Like @ender46 I have my
proxy set up in Network Settings, apt.conf and /etc/wgetrc and also as
an environment variable for root. Despite this, when flashplugin-
installer and ttf-mscorefonts-installer try to download files the
downloads time out.

[Bug 253167] Re: Rhythmbox sort by Album Artist for guest/compilations

2012-03-05 Thread Eduard Grebe
I don't see how anyone used to iTunes could be expected to accept as
poor a music manager as Rhythmbox as the default music library
application in Ubuntu. It is essentially unchanged in the last five
years and severely lacking in features. Album artist support is an
excellent example.

[Bug 700749] Re: Disk Utility (palimpsest) doesn't resize itself anymore, requiring users to do so to use it

2011-11-02 Thread Eduard Grebe
I have to disagree with the low/wishlist importance. This bug seriously
impacts usability and polish. It is the kind of thing that a
commercial operating system would not let slip through and reinforces
the impression that Linux-based OSs are left unfinished.

[Bug 568419] [NEW] Session applet gets obscured/replaced by second copy of me menu applet

2010-04-22 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

From time to time (I cannot find a pattern) the applet with the session
menu becomes invisible and seems to be replaced by a second copy of the
me menu applet. When this happens I cannot log out so have to either
call the restart/shutdown menu with the power button or kill x using
ctrl-alt-backspace. The second me-menu to the right of the real one is
not responsive to left or right-click.

This happens about twice per week through various versions of lucid beta
with latest updates, but I am not able to reproduce or trigger the bug.
The only way I can describe the exact symptom is with the attached
screenshot.

2010-04-11 Thread Eduard Grebe
Is there an accessibility team on launchpad? How do you generally coordinate
work and track accessibility-related bugs and feature requests?

Best
Eduard

[Bug 558805] [NEW] desktopcouch crashes when trying to copy contacts from Google addressbook to UbuntuOne addressbook in evolution

2010-04-08 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: desktopcouch

When I try to copy a number of contacts in my google addressbook in
evolution to my Ubuntu One addressbook (that exists by default), I get
failure messages saying Error creating contact (other) or something to
that effect. Shortly after apport alerts me to a crash in desktopcouch
service, but cannot report the bug, saying: Desktopcouch service
crashed with assertion failure. Apport does not support reporting these
bugs.

[Bug 552201] [NEW] Gwibber opens maximised in the traditional fashion on UNE

2010-03-30 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

I have noticed this on two different machines. Instead of opening fully
maximized on UNE (i.e. without a title bar), gwibber opens with title
bar and window controls visible. If it is maximized a second time, it
does so in the correct fashion. See screenshots for illustration:
screenshot 1 is how it opens, screenshot 2 is after clicking the
maximise button twice (to unmax and max again).

It seems multiple users are reporting the same issue. Caused not only by
trying to suspend, but also switching users. See bug duplicates.

[Bug 540520] [NEW] Thunderbird package does not depend on thunderbird-gnome-support

2010-03-17 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I installed thunderbird 3 on lucid using ubuntu software center. It does
not know how to open web links. I'm not sure whether there's a
thunderbird-gnome-support package that needs to be installed to make
this work. But if there is, then perhaps it should be a dependency so
that if thunderbird is installed it is automatically also installed?

[Bug 531023] Re: Lucid boots into weird hybrid text/graphics mode and doesn't load netbook-launcher

2010-03-04 Thread Eduard Grebe
Actually, what gets me into x.org is to first press ctrl-alt-F10 (or F9)
and then ctrl-alt-F7 (pressing ctrl-alt-F7 directly does not work). I am
then confronted by the UNE-lanucher and a popup asking for my keyring
password (in order to access the PSK for the secure WLAN). Once I enter
this, I get thrown back to the login screen and have to log in manually.

[Bug 531023] [NEW] Lucid boots into weird hybrid text/graphics mode and doesn't load netbook-launcher

2010-03-02 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

After installing UNE lucid alpha 3 on my Asus EeePC I often boot into a
sort of text mode (but the cursor seems like an X cursor and the text is
not the standard text mode) - any key pressed types garbage on the
screen (e.g. ^Z and a block), but pressing Alt-F10 (I think - I tried a
few) gets me back into Xorg with the UNE launcher.

I have no idea why ubuntu-bug when I selected reporting an x problem did
so against nvidia-graphics. The machine has an intel graphics processor.

[Bug 529023] [NEW] F-spot uses only one CPU core for CPU-intensive tasks

2010-02-27 Thread Eduard Grebe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

When I perform highly CPU-intensive tasks in F-spot, notably Merge
Raw, the process seems to make use of only one of the four CPU cores in
my machine. The process reports 100% (or close to) CPU usage, but
looking at resource usage in Gnome System Monitor reveals that only one
core is being used maximally, while the other three are close to idle.

Is this a problem with all mono-based software in Ubuntu?

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

While executing CPU-intensive tasks that take several minutes to
complete, the F-spot window is not redrawn and is completely
unresponsive. This is very user-unfriendly, since less technical users
will probably conclude that it has crashed. I attach a screenshot that

[Bug 501006] [NEW] Huawei USB modem intermittently not detected: loop of deferring support check
