[Bug 579014] Re: Install Problem The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Management have been installed incorrectly
The solution was a disk cleanup as I suspected, took me some time to get my hands on media large enough to hold the data. Seems like the new Ubuntu has gained quite some weight since my last install and in vanilla it takes up several gig more than my fully populated (program wise) previous system. Can't help but wonder, to others in similar situation boot a live disk, install midnight commander, open a terminal, sudo mc and then to work. It could solve your problem. But for the love of. Change the error message, it had nothing, and I STRESS NOTHING to do with: Install Problem The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Management have been installed incorrectly It was a disk space problem -- Install Problem The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Management have been installed incorrectly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579014 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 579014] [NEW] Install Problem The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Management have been installed incorrectly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: plymouth After a disk space warning I cannot get into the Gnome desktop upon boot, I keep getting the boot in screen, choose user name and type password, but end up back in the boot in menu with a black warning sign in the corner saying The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Management are installed incorrectly please contact your computer administrator hrmph I though those kind of useless error messages had died out a long time ago. Anyway I had experienced something similar way back when that was fixed by creating more space on the drive, so I got my hands on the live CD and started making room on the 39 GB partition, I am now up to 3% of free space, but I still get the same message, so no luck there. As I do not have my backup media here, it is traveling with my better half, I am kind of stuck in a pickle, I could splash out on an extra disk, or possibly move another 2Gb into the cloud, but I cannot be sure that helps. Good ideas are welcome. The system is a Compaq HP nx6310, 512 Mb RAM. ** Affects: plymouth (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: boot gnome login loop manager power problem -- Install Problem The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Management have been installed incorrectly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579014 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 117580] Re: Wireless gone at upgrade to kernel 2.6.20-16-generic
This occurs on every kernel upgrade - try going to the System menu point, choose Restricted drivers Manager, then enable the restricted driver - either choose the driver on your disk if you have it or choose to download it from the net. This bug is really beginning to annoy me in connection with upgrading the kernel To Canonical can you please fix it so you use either the same driver that is already working with the previous kernel or warn people things may get screwy and instruct them on the above fix so we don't keep seeing this problem crop up all over the web! -- Wireless gone at upgrade to kernel 2.6.20-16-generic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117580 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 242876] Re: lost wireless after upgrading to 2.6.24-19
Actually just had the same problem upgrading the kernel yesterday (not the first time this has happened either) - Wrote a little howto and put it on my site: HOWTO fix wireless card using restricted drivers in Linux (Ubuntu) http://einarpetersen.com/doku.php?id=howto_-_reenable_wireless But back to the questions posed Running Gutsy uname -a Linux laptop 2.6.22-16-generic #1 SMP Mon Nov 24 18:28:27 GMT 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Is the latest kernel upgrade dmesg - just comes up with a load of suppressed messages, however following my howto I got it working again, hope others can do the same. install_bcm43xx_firmware.sh is present in my usr/share directory /bcm43xx-fwcutter directory and bcm43xx_microcode11.fw is present in /lib/firmware Let me know if you need any other input. -- lost wireless after upgrading to 2.6.24-19 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242876 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 241917] Re: Wireless does not work under new kernel XX-15 - but works fine under latestkernel XX-14 - Distro 7.10 - Gutsy Gibbon
Setting problem as confirmed as there is a fix and using the method sorted the problem out - I hope however that someone fixes this pretty soon as I believe it can have a serious backlash on linux uptake. Problems like this can overshadow the user experience for novice users. Had I not used Linux myself for a period of time something like this would have ticked me off in a serious way, at least I had some patience and an idea of what went wrong after thinking about it and could solve the problem. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Confirmed -- Wireless does not work under new kernel XX-15 - but works fine under latestkernel XX-14 - Distro 7.10 - Gutsy Gibbon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/241917 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Did you try the other treads - A whole bunch on wireless problems in connection with upgrades. For me plugging into the wire, ticking off the use restricted drivers in the Restricted Drivers Management Gui found under Administration did the trick - Asked to download the driver suggested. -- lost wireless after upgrading to 2.6.24-19 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242876 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

And voila - I can see my AP again and use my wireless, but this needs to be looked at so it doesn't disable peoples network cards / unselects use restricted drivers, not all people are lucky enough to be in a place where they can just plug in to fix the problem. -- Wireless does not work under new kernel XX-15 - but works fine under latestkernel XX-14 - Distro 7.10 - Gutsy Gibbon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/241917 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Found a wire and plugged in - Now the lights come on during boot - All to do now is finding an access point and then try it out.
