yes, its the laptop screen that flickers. It only flickers when I plug
in the HDMI cable. The external monitor shows nothing when I plug in the

I had the same problem when using another HDMI cable

I couldn't change the external monitor to a lower resolution because it
kept flickering and going to the menu for the external monitor, it would
just reset and send me to the settings for the built-in monitor

I attached a video

[Bug 2062504] Re: Flickering problems on external monitor with HDMI after installing Ubuntu 23.10

2024-04-19 Thread J K
I just removed the oibaf packages with

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers -r

I also tried

sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

but it said no such drivers existed

I rebooted but I'm getting the same flickering problem

My only option now is to reinstall the OS?

[Bug 2062504] [NEW] Flickering problems on external monitor with HDMI after installing Ubuntu 23.10

2024-04-19 Thread J K
Public bug reported:

I just installed ubuntu 23.10 on my thinkpad L13. It works fine on my
laptop monitor. But when I connect an HDMI cable to my other monitor,
then the screen flickers on the laptop and nothing shows on the other
monitor

I know it can't be the problem with the other monitor as I bought it
brand new last week, and the cable works fine on this same laptop when I
run in windows, and it works fine on other laptops with windows/mac

I already installed the driver with `sudo apt install nvidia-driver-535
nvidia-dkms-535` and rebooted, but that didn't help. I then installed
driver 550 and I still have the flickering

This laptop uses an intel Alder Lake-UP3 GT2

I also tried editing `etc/default/grub` by adding 'nomodeset' or
'radeon.modeset=0' within the quotation marks in the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT but that didn't help either

can anyone help?

[Bug 1965804] [NEW] Dropbox keeps downloading the same upgrade over and over again on Ubuntu 20.04.04: dropbox-upgrade-144.4.4491.tar.gz

2022-03-21 Thread J-K
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS and following version of nautilus-dropbox:
2019.02.14-1ubuntu1

Problem: The dropbox syncing daemon keeps downloading the same upgrade
over and over again: In this case dropbox-upgrade-144.4.4491.tar.gz.
There are already several copies in folder
$HOME/Dropbox/.dropbox.cache/tmp_dirs/ .

I have a slow internet connection and it's very annoying that dropbox is
blocking it more than needed. I also don't understand why dropbox won't
continue to download a partially-downloaded upgrade file (e.g. caused by
a timeout or a suspend of the computer) but instead starting over again.

I've seen several download attempts in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS already but now
it loaded it 10x without success.

I expect that the upgrade file is downloaded only once and that an
already partially-downloaded file is continued instead starting to
download from byte 1 again.

** Affects: nautilus-dropbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1872103] [NEW] After update to 6.4.2.2: Split database only accessible while running in Safe Mode

2020-04-10 Thread J-K
Public bug reported:

I updated LibreOffice from 6.0.7 to 6.4.2.2 via
ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-6-4. Now I get an error when trying to open
a form in a HSQLDB 2.3.2 split database: “Error in script file line: 1
Unexpected token UNIQUE, requires COLLATION in statement [SET DATABASE
UNIQUE]“

When running in Safe Mode, I can access the database. But even when
using a new, clean profile, I can't access the database!

When starting LibreOffice with
LC_ALL=C libreoffice

I can open a form within the database but then an error like
“The data could not be loaded. There exists no table named "[Name of my
table]".“ is displayed.

I tried installing the DEB packages provided on
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/ , same version 6.4.2.2, and
there the split database is working as expected.

I reported this bug wrongly first here:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132009

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Update LibreOffice from 6.0.7 to 6.4.2.2 on Ubuntu 18.04.4 using
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-6-4
2. Start LO and open a split database (Use this test database:
http://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=159465 )
3. Click on a table

Actual Results:
Seeing following error message (when using German localization as normally)
“Error in script file line: 1 Unexpected token UNIQUE, requires COLLATION in
statement [SET DATABASE UNIQUE]“

When starting LO with
LC_ALL=C libreoffice

I can open a form within the database but then an error message like
“The data could not be loaded. There exists no table named "[Name of my
table]".“ is displayed.

So the database is not usable at all.

Expected Results:
The split database should be accessible.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

[Bug 1751837] [NEW] Opening documents on a sshfs share isn't working anymore

2018-02-26 Thread J-K
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS with
http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/libreoffice-5-4/ubuntu and the
latest version of LibreOffice 5.4.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.1~lo1 .

Since the latest update, LibreOffice can't open documents from a sshfs share
anymore. It starts to load and then exits silently. There is no output when
starting LibreOffice on a command line.
With the version before (5.4.4~rc2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1~lo1) it was working without
any problems.
When copying an ODF-file from the sshfs-share to a local directory, LibreOffice
opens it correctly.

[Bug 1744963] [NEW] printing a PDF generated by LibreOffice sometimes fail with lpr but is printed correctly with evince

2018-01-23 Thread J-K
Public bug reported:

Sometimes a PDF generated by LibreOffice is not printed correctly with lpr but
is printed correctly with evince.
For an example see attached PDF: Using lpr only the first line is printed,
nothing more.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS with cups-filters 1.8.3-2ubuntu3.1 . The
printer is HP LaserJet 3055, connected via network - DeviceURI
hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_3055?ip=192.168.XXX.XXX using hplip 3.16.3+repack0-1

[Bug 1588768] [NEW] only first page is converted when converting a multipage postscript file to jpg and then to pdf when using standard input and output instead filenames

2016-06-03 Thread J-K
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS
Release:14.04

Version: 8:6.7.7.10-6ubuntu3.1

I tried to convert a multipage postscript file generated by LibreOffice
writer to JPG and then to PDF using following command line:

convert -density 150 /tmp/file.ps jpg:- | convert - pdf:/tmp/file.pdf

The resulting PDF has only the first page, all other pages are lost.

When using explicit file names instead of the standard input and output,
the resulting PDF has all pages from the original postscript file:

convert -density 150 /tmp/file.ps jpg:/tmp/file.jpg && convert
/tmp/file-*.jpg pdf:/tmp/file.pdf

[Bug 1575207] [NEW] Mailer-Daemon: bounce message doesn't include In-Reply-To or References-Header

2016-04-26 Thread J-K
Public bug reported:

When postfix sends a bounce message (often through MAILER-
dae...@example.org) the bounce message does not have the In-Reply-To
and/or the References header referencing the message which failed to
send.

This is very annoying to users who use an email view where emails are
grouped together (known as conversion view).

So please add at least on of these headers to outgoing bounce messages.

[Bug 717097] [NEW] package spider (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/games/spider', which is also in package ace-of-penguins 1.3-0ubuntu1

2011-02-11 Thread J K Cunningham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: spider

This bug might be due to a name conflict with the ace-of-penguins

manually install spider and saw this error message:

[Bug 717112] [NEW] LaTeX support broken and can no longer be installed

2011-02-11 Thread J K Cunningham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: texlive-base

Yesterday morning I had a working LaTeX system on my 10.10 64-bit
desktop. I do updates about every week, so nothing was very old. I
attempted to install latex-cjk-korean and it failed, producing something
like:

dpkg: error processing tex-common (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 texlive-base
 texlive-latex-base
 texlive-latex-recommended
 tex-common

I tried to get these to coexist by removing them singly and re-
installing them, but ended up without ever getting texlive-base to
coexist with tex-common and successfully configure both. To get back any
kind of Tex support I had to remove all texlive packages and add only
the texlive-binaries.

I am attaching the stdout capture that I get when I try to install
texlive-latex-recommended as an example.

I searched launchpad and the forums and found numerous current cases
where people cannot get texlive to work anymore in 10.10 but haven't
seen an active bug reporting it, so here it is. Since many people rely
on LaTeX I would say it is a serious bug.

I will be happy to try any experiments and post results if it will help.

Jeff

[Bug 717112] Re: LaTeX support broken and can no longer be installed

2011-02-11 Thread J K Cunningham
Interesting. I had installed libz.so.1.2.5 from sources to satisfy the
needs of another project. So I removed it and reinstalled the default
zlib so it now has libz.so.1.2.3.4 like the header. I removed everything
texlive-xxx and tex-common and started over from scratch. This time a
ran into a new error.

I am attaching both the terminal output and the error log file
referenced in it. Here's the gist of it:

!!! ERROR! The map file `MinionPro.map' has not been found at all.

I did some searching on this error and found only a stale bug #35407
which remained unsolved.

Thanks.

Jeff

[Bug 717112] Re: LaTeX support broken and can no longer be installed

2011-02-11 Thread J K Cunningham
Thanks. But I assure you I haven't done anything knowingly with
MinionPro. There isn't any such package in the Ubuntu repositories, and
I haven't attempted to install anything like it. With the exception of
the later version of zlib - which I removed - this is pretty much a
vanilla 10.10 installation. Is it possible some package which depends on
texlive tried to install MinionPro? And if so, how to I correct the
situation?

[Bug 717112] Re: LaTeX support broken and can no longer be installed

2011-02-11 Thread J K Cunningham
Well now, that was a most excellent observation. I grepped MinionPro
in /etc/texmf/updmap.d/ and turned up a reference to it in 10local.cfg.
It was the only entry, in fact. I commented it out and was successfully
able to install texlive-latex-base. That was exactly it. Now I'm
wondering how it got there in the first place. That's no-doubt the bug.
Curious.

In any event, here is a solution for anyone else who runs into this.
Thanks for your help.

[Bug 354073] Re: Issues Installing texlive in 8.10

2011-02-10 Thread J K Cunningham
I'm having the same problem in 10.10 on an AMD-64 system. texlive is
broken. I tried uninstalling every package it complained about started
from scratch several times. It appears you cannot have texlive-base
texlive-latex-base and tex-common coexisting which makes it a pretty
limited tex system. If you google those three packages you'll turn up
dozens of long discussions people are having trying to resolve this
issue and so far no one has succeeded.

I'll be happy to follow any steps anyone cares to suggest, post any
output, whatever.

Maverick 10.10 fresh install. Same bug. I've had it before and previous
fix doesn't work this time.

[Bug 588765] [NEW] I tried a clean install of emacs23 and related packages all at once. Bad idea. Still cleaning out the debris. Built it from source successfully afterwards.

2010-06-02 Thread J K Cunningham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs-snapshot

This is a new install of 10.04 with almost nothing (extra) on it. I
first tried to install the emacs23 but it locked the machine up and
required a power cycle to reboot it. I then tried removing it - which
was difficult, as every time I touched apt-get it wanted to finish the
previous install. Sorry I can't add more detail - it was a couple nights
ago and I moved on via building from source. It took this long to get
email up to interact with the account creation process. -jkc-
