[ubuntu-studio-users] Success with 18.04 on netbook :)
I've just done a clean install of ubuntu studio 18.04 on my absurdly cheap and cheerful 11" Dell Inspiron. tldr; almost everything is going very well indeed. Now running SuperCollider 3.9.3 built from source. Here's a wee livecoded algorave-ish test track I made today with this setup: https://clyp.it/5d3lo4na Problems; * getting the thing to boot after install was 48 hours of hell. Brief outline here https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2396060 * there's a wee bug that I also had on this machine on an earlier install of ubuntu studio. Sometimes there is mysteriously no sound, although everything looks like it is working. Solution is to go to Sound Settings from the panel, and unmute, wait for it, *the microphone*. Eh?! But seems to work. Thanks to the developers for this great distro! -- J. Re: Fairly naive Pd question
Ricardo, Sorry, I wasn't clear, that's what I mean, when put the name of a library in the startup, eg cyclone, then I just get an error message 'can't load library'. I'll try asking on the pd list. Thanks, JS From: Ricardo Lameiro ricardolame...@gmail.com Reply-To: usbstud ubuntu-studio-users@lists.ubuntu.com Date: Wed, 13 Jan 2010 14:43:55 + To: usbstud ubuntu-studio-users@lists.ubuntu.com Subject: Re: Fairly naive Pd question Hi JS Maybe not all the libs are loaded at startup. You can add the lib folder that you want in the file menu - startup or maybe make like this [cyclone/objectyouwant] this happens, maybe because the devs doesnt want to load all the libs, because they are loaded to the RAM and most of them you dont use in day to day work. Try like this to see if it helps Ricardo Lameiro 2010/1/12 J. Simon van der Walt tedthetrum...@gmail.com Ricardo, You need to install the deb package from the puredata.info website and unistall pd-vanilla. when unistalling pd-vanilla, ubuntustudio-audio will be uninstalled, but that is only a metapackage, you are not uninstalling all the programs. Thanks. From this point on, the question should probably go to the pd-list, I guess, but... I uninstalled pd (vanilla) in Synaptic Package Manager, and downloaded and installed this instead; http://autobuild.puredata.info/auto-build/latest/Pd-0.42.5-extended-ubuntu-ka rmic-i386.deb It mostly seems to work. However, of the libraries I tried to install in Pd, only Gem seems to work, other wise I get cyclone: can't load library The libraries all seem to be there in usr/lib/pd. Fairly naive Pd question
The version of Pd included with studio 9.10 - am I correct in thinking that is pd-vanilla? Rather than pd-extended? Is there a reason for that? How would I install pd-extended? I have some patches previous done on pd-extended on the mac which I'd like to try to get going in linux. tia -- J. Maybe this list not quite the right place to ask, but someone here might know; if I burn new firmware to my midisport 1X1, like this; http://usb-midi-fw.sourceforge.net/ will it still work with Mac OS X? Reorganise main menus after migrating from Ubuntu?
Hi there, kind of n00b around here... I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my msi wind clone, and used the instructions on this page to migrate to ubuntustudio; https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ubuntu%20Studio%20Upgrade%20from%20Ubuntu Mostly this has gone well. However, one of the reasons I wanted to use studio rather than vanilla was for the very plain bare bones ui. I think I can probably figure out how to reconfigure the panels and get rid of the bottom one, but I'm stumped on the menus. How would I get rid of ubuntu's 'Applications', Places and System and use the single no-name menu which studio uses? So that I have space to put open window tabs at the top instead of the bottom like studio does it? Thanks, -- J.
