[Bug 1930641] Re: memory leak in xorg-server 2:1.20.9-2ubuntu1.2~20.04.2
I swapped my environment (gnome-fallback, chromium-browser, evolution, libreoffice, gnome-terminal) for a vanilla env of ctwm, xterm and firefox. After 4 days the memory usage stayed at 0.6%. Confirm that it is not a bug in xorg but in one of the other apps, as suggested by Daniel. So I need to check all other apps to see which one is causing the memory use and report it to the offending one. I've changed the status of this bug report to invalid. Well, it's not libreoffice nor evolution mail client. And I also tried Unity with X instead of fallback, no better, so it doesn't look like metacity. [Bug 1930641] Re: memory leak in xorg-server 2:1.20.9-2ubuntu1.2~20.04.2
i don't think it is libreoffice. I last restarted X 4 days ago, and memory usage has gone from under 1% to 8%. Libreoffice has stayed unchanged at 459376K total (with 2 docs open). metacity has grown but not conclusively. [Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500
I've got a Gigabyte Brix GB-BXi7H-5500. This computer only has HDMI and mini DisplayPort outputs, no VGA. All the Desktop systems I have tried to install (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc) have all failed because the screen is totally unreadable, with graphics flashing all over the place and nothing sensible to be seen. I managed to install Ubuntu 14.10 server and installed xinit and twm (yes, those ooollddd ways of doing X!). A barely usable system as long as only xterm was used. Trying to run e.g. firefox was a total mess (photo attached). So it's not a window manager issue, nor a GUI toolkit issue: this was absolutely minimal X. Updating linux kernel to 4.0.2 didn't help. Ubuntu 15.04 was no good - triple mouse pointers against a magenta screen. Fix #32 worked and I can play 1080p movies such as Big Buck Bunny (a bit jerky as no i965 loaded). But it only works once I have the server install done - doesn't help Desktop installs. Many windows have apparently disappeared from the display (4 desktops) but can eventually be found almost off the screen on the left-hand side, a mere 10 or so pixels wide. They have to be dragged back onto the display with ALT-F7 (mouse won't drag or resize them) and can then be resized using the mouse. Other windows have just gone, and I have to kill their PIDs before I can restart them from the Unity toolbar. Under Ubuntu 10 I had no such problems, looks like a Unity issue. Any solutions apart from regressing to Gnome 2? ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799012 Title: Windows shrink to 10 pixels wide in waking from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/799012/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 731696] [NEW] Left taskbar and top menubar only appear intermittently
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook Using Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix as a 10 foot GUI. Running on HP T5735 thin client attached via DVI port to Panasonic plasma TV. Left hand taskbar and top menubar show as purple bars of correct thickness but no icons or text. If I move the mouse over the taskbar, it shows a white box framed by a black box, of different widths. By guessing what they are, I can click on a box and select a taskbar app e.g. 2nd from bottom is Applications. Sometimes when redrawing screen, the icons flash up for a second, and disappear again. [Bug 716277] [NEW] Asus EEE900 netbook: can't load Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity Testing 10.10 netbook remix on an Asus EEE900 PC (1Gb RAM, 8Gb disk) from a USB stick. Observed the following behaviour: - will boot to the stage of showing the menu bar with battery indicator, then hangs (twice) - will boot to show Test/Install dialog, then progresses after 10-20 minutes to just showing the X Window cursor. Does not reach the ubiquity interface. On pressing power button, drops to terminal interface and shows graceful shutdown. Error at top: GTK Unknown user id. (observed about 10 times so far) - successfully loads ubiquity interface for testing Ubuntu. Everything (almost) works fine, but did see an error msg about no memory, should remove apps. (only happened twice, in about 15 attempts) Sorry, can't run uname, dmesg, etc because I can't get it to load properly any more. I have not attempted to install 10.10, seems too risky with this behaviour on just trying it out! [Bug 587107] [NEW] Many apps become unresponsive in after a while in 10.04
Public bug reported: After my system has been running for a few days, many apps become slow to respond. This includes firefox and evolution, but also many others. For example, running 'man' in an already open terminal window took 24 seconds to show, and starting Synaptic took 45 seconds for the main window to appear, which was promptly greyed out as unresponsive, and took a further 10 seconds before it was un-greyed and a total of 75 seconds before I could use it. The evolution display shows the digest contents as email message attachment. I can select the attachment and get offered choices of emacs, text editor, etc. So far, so good. But when I select one of them it shows a window with the headers such as: Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Paul Wayper paul...@mabula.net Precedence: list MIME-Version: 1.0 Cc: s...@slug.org.au To: James Polley ja...@polley.org References: 66aa3ba50909071735w2511bb3epe2e762c6c2506...@mail.gmail.com In-Reply-To: 66aa3ba50909071735w2511bb3epe2e762c6c2506...@mail.gmail.com Date: Tue, 08 Sep 2009 20:37:42 +1000 Reply-To: paul...@mabula.net Message-ID: 4aa633f6.7000...@mabula.net Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Subject: [SLUG] Re: Videos of June talks available Message: 1 but with the actual content not shown. An alternative IMAP client (thunderbird) shows the content okay. I have attached a side-by-side screen capture of evolution on the left, thunderbird on the right. When I select the evolution message, it shows the content above, while thunderbird shows the content inline and not the headers. I saved the complete message from thunderbird. Apologies, I would have sent it as an attachment, but this bug report limits me to one attachment. [Bug 369103] [NEW] Can't authenticate to exchange server after upgrade from 2.24.3 to 2.26.1
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Could connect to exchange server okay from evolution 2.24.3 (Ubuntu 8.10). After upgrade to evolution 2.26.1 (Ubuntu 9.04) I can no longer authenticate to the server (message is password incorrect?). I still have the old distro on a separate partition, but I couldn't get exchange 2.24.3 to work any longer. When I used the old version I got: Error while generating message list - table personal/inbox has 28 columns but 26 values were supplied. Not sure if these problems are related or not. [Bug 271519] Re: Low volume, No sound: Intel HDA 82801J (ICH10)
Maybe solved after all??? A follow up to teknoprep's and my postings today. Under Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 the volume has been really low. alsamixer showed the output as 100%. But I booted today into Ubuntu 9.04 beta, and there, alsamixer showed as only 50% output. When I boosted it to 100%, the sound was back to normal for the first time in 6 months. But odder was when I booted back into 8.10 - the volume was still okay! So it looks like alsa wasn't getting/setting correct values in the Ubuntu 8.X series but is okay in the 9.X series. [Bug 239052] Re: Upgrade to evolution 2.22.2 lost evolution-exchange
More info. I now have two boot partitions, one running Ubuntu 8.0.4 freshly installed off DVD with evolution 2.22.1, the second running Ubuntu with all updates applied at June 13, 2008 (Australian time) with evolution 2.22.2. but evolution-exchange 2.22.1 My home directories are all on a separate partition, with symbolic links from /home (/home/newmarch - /mnt/sda5/newmarch). So alll config files for ~newmarch are the same across both boot options. .gnome2_private/Evolution is now becoming a bit of a mess: [Passwords-Mail] imap:[EMAIL PROTECTED] [Passwords-Exchange] exchange:__J.Newmarch;[EMAIL PROTECTED] exchange:__J.Newmarch;[EMAIL PROTECTED] exchange:__J.Newmarch;[EMAIL PROTECTED] The exchange account works fine on evoluton 2.22.1 from original Ubuntu 8.0.4 DVD distro. With the upgrades to 2.22.2 and with the bodgy links from 2.4 to 2.3 dlls it shows me my exchange account and lets me edit the preferences-exchange account. But all that I am seeing in the folders list is the exchange directory folder with no contents. When I click on it a fast message says scanning??? (too fast to see what is going on). No content shows in the folder after this scan. My imap connections are working okay now (duh! I had to set evolution online). So I am only having problems with 2.22.2 connecting to an exchange server. -- Upgrade to evolution 2.22.2 lost evolution-exchange https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239052 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Still occurs in Hardy release 8.04 on a Dell Latitude D830. The bind/unbind fix doesn't work for me: no such device when I try to write to the bind file. Symptoms as everyone describes: on resume after suspend to disk the laptop keyboard doesn't work but an external USB keyboard does. xev reports no keyboard events.
