[Bug 1905529] [NEW] kwin_x11 still running after logging out

2020-11-25 Thread Mark Fraser
Public bug reported:

Recently upgraded to Kubuntu 20.10 with KDE 5.19. If I log out from one
user and try to log back in, I am unable to. I am then also unable to
shutdown the computer.

When I logged in over ssh, I noticed that the process kwin_x11 was still
running under that user.

Happens to me whenever I have an update that involves nvidia drivers.
The only way to shutdown or reboot is via the CLI.

2020-02-25 Thread Mark Fraser

Adding a Google account in Kubuntu 20.04 either produces an empty window
after entering email and password details or if it does work, there
seems to be no way of reconfiguring the account.

This is just guesswork, but:

That doesn't look good. Remove that device/those devices and try again?

Re-ran grub-mkdevicemap and those are OK now.

Also, you seem to have a small /boot partition -- is that right? Is
there any free space in it?

Plenty of space on sda1.

Just tried installing grub on sdb and that also generates a "not a
directory" error.

grub-probe works on all drives and partitions except /dev/sda1.

Recently upgraded 2 computers to Kubuntu 18.04 and I'm also seeing this

only just upgraded my only other kernel was from 4.13. Installing

[Bug 1635206] [NEW] snap find with empty query returns error

2016-10-20 Thread Mark Fraser
Public bug reported:

If I do:

snaps, but instead I get:
error: you need to specify a query. Try "snap find hello-world".

I'd originally used KDE Partition Manager, but tried again with gdisk. Still
getting the Block bitmap differences: .

[ubuntu-uk] New hard drive errors

2016-06-18 Thread Mark Fraser
Bought a new 3TB hard drive this week onto which I created a new GPT partition
table and a 3TB ext4 partition. This completed successfully and I used rsync
to copy some files onto it.

The next day, I was unable to mount the drive and so I ran fsck on it. This
failed pass 5: Checking group summary information with lots of block bitmap
differences.

I fixed these, but on running fsck a second time, these block differences were
back.

Now this drive is currently sat in an external USB tray so that I could copy
files across before replacing the one in the computer. Are these errors due to
it being on USB or is the drive faulty?

Just had a thought, have you got fam or gamin installed? I'm using fam, but I
just tried

 Here is another idea. Run

 apt list --installed |cut -d/ -f1 -s installed

for all machines. Then use the join command (see the man page for options)
to make the table. Perhaps open the table in LibreOffice use text to table.

I've started to look at
comm --output-delimiter=, installed1.txt installed2.txt installed.csv

[ubuntu-uk] Comparing installed packages

2014-05-04 Thread Mark Fraser
I've got 4 computers here that I would like to compare the installed packages
on each one together. I've done dpkg --get-selection installed.txt on each
computer, but now I'm trying to merge each one into a single file and leave a
space where a package isn't installed.

Instead of:
Acpi-support acpi-support Acpi-supportacpi-support
adduser acroreadadduser adduser
Adobereader-enu acroread-binadobereader-enu adobereader-enu

I'd like:
Acpi-support acpi-support Acpi-supportacpi-support
 acroread
 acroread-bin
adduser adduser
adduser
Adobereader-enu adobereader-enu adobereader-enu

Any ideas how to achieve this?

[Bug 1300283] Re: LibreOffice does not start in a KDE 4 session

2014-04-07 Thread Mark Fraser
@Björn Michaelsen They are not missing, but the versions of
libkde4be1lo.so and libvclplug_kde4lo.so in 4.2.3-rc2 and rc3 seem to be
the cause of the problem, coping those files from 4.2.1 allows
LibreOffice to run.
