[Bug 1058303] Re: linux-image-3.2.0-31-generic-pae radeon regression
I believe I have this issue with my AO722 on quantal, though my symptoms are a little different as I have a cryptsetup root, so I never get to the passphrase prompt. I do typically get a black screen on first boot, but can ctrl-alt-del, and boot proceeds normally the second time through. My question is this: the test kernels henrix posted are 3.2 series. quantal's on 3.5. Can I use these safely? Or should I expect quantal to have this fix integrated? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058303 Title: linux-image-3.2.0-31-generic-pae radeon regression To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1058303/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1058303] Re: linux-image-3.2.0-31-generic-pae radeon regression
Thanks. I did try it and it didn't do anything for my symptoms, unfortunately; I'm probably barking up the wrong tree. The comments in this bug did prompt me, however, to try blindly typing my passphrase in to unlock the drive, which worked, surprisingly. Disclaimer: incomplete understanding follows :-) I seem to recall that, in past versions (lucid and maverick at least), if you expanded your desktop, desktop effects would be switched off for that session, probably by replacing compiz with metacity? [Bug 769866] [NEW] tab completion no longer escapes filenames
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bash In maverick, lucid, and other even way older releases, I could use tab completion on a filename with characters with special meaning to the shell (e.g. spaces): matt@lemmankinan:/tmp/complete-test$ ls File with spaces.txt matt@lemmankinan:/tmp/complete-test$ mv File\ with\ spaces.txt .. (on second line, type mv Ftab .. However, in natty, this is broken for many (though strangely not all) commands: matt@sampo:/tmp/complete-test$ ls File with spaces.txt matt@sampo:/tmp/complete-test$ mv File with spaces.txt .. mv: cannot stat `File': No such file or directory mv: cannot stat `with': No such file or directory mv: cannot stat `spaces.txt': No such file or directory (again, typing mv Ftab .. If I start with a quote, e.g. mv 'Ftab .. that will work. There's also an additional problem with directory names. If I e.g. mkdir -p abc/def/ghi and try to move the above file, if I tab-complete the abc directory, it will end with a space instead of a slash, so I cannot complete further directories. Again, this works just fine in older releases. [Bug 573140] [NEW] invoking gvim from shell results in invisible cursor, blank document areas
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vim Just discovered this one in the past few weeks. My typical usage pattern with vim is to have a gnome-terminal window open and issue 'gvim filename' at the shell. (I'm using vim-gnome.) Now, when I do this, I get a gvim window with an invisible cursor, and if I scroll down in the document, blank space. A workaround is to press Ctrl-Z, which minimizes gvim, then Alt-Tab back over to it. The cursor then appears and all text is drawn correctly for the rest of the session. If I use Alt-F2 to launch gvim from Run Application, or if I select it from the GNOME menu, there is no problem. I do not need to use a filename argument to reproduce the problem. Simply issuing 'gvim' at the shell is sufficient. In case my .vimrc is useful, it contains: filetype plugin indent on set modeline set gfn=Liberation\ Mono\ 10 au GUIEnter * set lines=50 columns=80 however, it has not changed since January 10—probably even before that; that's just its mod time. [Bug 503579] [NEW] [lucid] software-center warns of untrusted packages, offers no Cancel
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center I was using software-center to install GnuCash on my lucid installation. With 18-hour-old package lists, I was greeted 3% in (past loading software list, IIRC) with a dialog informing me a number of untrusted packages would need to be installed. The only choice was OK. Once clicking OK I could then cancel the installation. There were no options to update the software ilst, nor any hints that updating the software list was the right thing to do. This seems like it would be a *very* scary dialog. I used update-manager to update the package lists (and installed some updates while I was at it), and GnuCash now installs successfully. Check dpkg --status initramfs-tools | grep ^Version as well as for udev and usplash and confirm your versions. -- i915: black screen on boot---fbcon loading (screen powers off); breaks (recovery mode), fsck, usplash, crypt password https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431812 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Seems to, based on a few hours of use each night for two or three nights now. And I just updated to 10.35 this morning which still seems okay. That's why I'm curious how everyone else is doing. [Bug 431812] Re: i915: black screen on boot---fbcon loading (screen powers off); breaks (recovery mode), fsck, usplash, crypt password
Did this get fixed already, or worked around? I updated this morning, saw some sysv etc. updates and kernel 10.35, and have booted twice without nomodeset now without incident. By the way, when I did have the problem, it was particularly troublesome on my Eee PC 1000HEB, because it apparently left the LCD brightness in an off state, even across cold reboots. [Bug 434600] [NEW] latest update no longer clears to dark background for mutt
Public bug reported: The recent update of libvte seems to have broken gnome-terminal's ability to clear to mutt's dark background, over an ssh session with TERM=xterm. mutt (running on hardy) will start up on a white screen, drawing text on dark backgrounds as it updates various portions of the screen, but untouched areas remain white. I have a very minimal muttrc et al so this one should be easy to reproduce, I hope. Jason et al, I was talking about this driver over at eeeuser's forums a bit and decided to swap it back in a couple nights ago. [Bug 421673] Re: modem-manager tries to probe, crashes PalmOS handhelds
That appears to be the case, yes. I don't have the output handy, and would have to reinstall the package to capture it, but while in recovery mode, I connected my LifeDrive, the visor module allocated ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 to it, verified the LifeDrive was operating properly. I then ran modem-manager by hand, and its output indicated it was probing said ttys, at which point the LifeDrive crashed and rebooted. So yes, I imagine sending the AT commands is what is crashing the LifeDrive. By the way, if it's helpful, you can find a listing of USB device IDs for Palms in /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libpisock9.rules. ** Changed in: modemmanager (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- modem-manager tries to probe, crashes PalmOS handhelds https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421673 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 421673] Re: [karmic] visor module crashes PalmOS handhelds (tested: LifeDrive, CLIÉ)
Based on some Web research, it seems that the proper way these days to use modern Palms with jpilot, pilot-link et al. is to set them to use the usb: device then let udev (?) link the two up, skipping the visor module entirely. I think I missed out on this because the visor module has always worked. However, using usb: is not working either: device connected [ 1849.776124] usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 15 [ 1849.909491] usb 1-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice executed pilot-dlpsh -p usb: -i [ 1972.557307] usb 1-3: USB disconnect, address 15 [ 1972.558349] usb 1-3: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd pilot-dlpsh rqt 194 rq 4 len 20 ret -108 [ 1975.124129] usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 16 [ 1975.257385] usb 1-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice It doesn't crash the LifeDrive, though, so that's good ;) I could use some guidance from someone who understands this more thoroughly in order to get this bug targeted properly. There are definitely two issues though, AFAIK: 1. the visor module has begun crashing Palms, and 2. the usb: method (which I understand gnome-pilot also uses?) is not working -- [karmic] visor module crashes PalmOS handhelds (tested: LifeDrive, CLIÉ) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421673 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
