[Bug 972152] [NEW] Dash - quicklist illegible

2012-04-03 Thread Neil Padgett
Public bug reported:

When using the dash, right-click on Dash Home button sometimes results
in a quicklist that is unreadable as in the attached screenshot. This
seems to depend on which lens is being viewed at the time of accessing
the quicklist. It never happens if I'm in the Files Folders, Music or
Videos, but always happens when in Dash Home or Applications. (I only
have the stock lenses.)

[Bug 859455] Re: Touchpad random breakage

2011-10-11 Thread Neil Padgett
I don't use gestures or 2-finger scrolling; my touchpad doesn't have
those capabilities. It seems to happen randomly, although it's usually
within the first few minutes of a new boot. I then have to log out,
using ctrl+alt+delete, and then back in. This gets the touchpad
working, and it never seems to fail again for the whole day. But the
next day, the same thing happens.

I tried to run evtest as above, but I don't quite understand how to use
it. Do I enter the whole command as above, or should the eventX part be
replaced by something else?

[Bug 859455] [NEW] Touchpad random breakage

2011-09-26 Thread Neil Padgett
Public bug reported:

The touchpad on my Dell XPS 1530 keeps breaking. This happens on a
random basis at least two times a day. By breaking, I mean that the
touchpad suddenly stops working; I am unable to move the mouse cursor
with the touchpad. However, if I plug in an external USB mouse, the
cursor can be moved and used as normal. If I then unplug the mouse, the
touchpad is still broken. I can get the touchpad working again by
logging out and then logging back in.

[Bug 859455] Re: Touchpad random breakage

2011-09-26 Thread Neil Padgett
** Description changed:

The touchpad on my Dell XPS 1530 keeps breaking. This happens on a
- random basis at least two times a day. By breaking, I mean I am
- unable to move the mouse cursor with the touchpad. However, if I plug
- in an external USB mouse, the cursor can be moved and used as normal.
- If I then unplug the mouse, the touchpad is still broken. I can get the
- touchpad working again by logging out and then logging back in.

[Bug 847880] [NEW] Extremely slow boot - 3 minutes or more

2011-09-12 Thread Neil Padgett
Public bug reported:

My PC takes 3 minutes to boot since installing Beta 1. During most of
the boot time, it seems to hang at the Ubuntu logo. If I then press
Esc to get to verbose mode, I see a flashing cursor after the starting
CUPSOK line. This lasts for over 2 and a half minutes, after which
a few more lines flash by and I reach the login screen.

[Bug 840828] [NEW] NVIDIA 8600 too hot

2011-09-04 Thread Neil Padgett
Public bug reported:

(The only nearly relevant choice I could find in apport was xorg, so I'm
sorry if this is incorrect.)

I'm running Oneiric Beta1 fully updated. I've noticed my laptops
cooling fan is permanently running, and that the temperature of my
graphics card reaches 86 degrees C according to the NVIDIA Server
Settings information. I've never seen such high temperatures before.
My laptop is actually almost too hot to touch underneath. Before
Oneiric, the temperature of the graphics card was around 50 to 60
degrees C.

These temperatures are reached during normal everday use of my laptop.
I'm only running Firefox, Thunderbird, Dropbox, Ubuntu One, Empathy,
Gwibber and Liferea. No games, or other graphic intensive stuff.

I've attached a screenshot of NVIDIA Server Settings.

[Bug 798132] [NEW] No icons in Applications Lens

2011-06-16 Thread Neil Padgett
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

The first time I launch the Applications Lens after the computer boots,
there are no icons displayed on the overlay. There is just a blank,
black overlay with the Search Applications box at the top. If start
to enter text in the search box, application icons then begin to appear.

This has only started happening over the last few days, but I have no
idea why.
