[Bug 1032456] Re: Canon inkjets (and some other printers) print only half of the last page after 20120801 upgrade to v1.5.3-0ubuntu2

1.5.3-0ubuntu3~ppa1 does not fix
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1032385 (which may
be related). Printing two copies also does not work for me (it continued
to print about one and a half lines of text from the first page onto the
second page and ejected it).

I can't really tell because I don't print that often. It may well be that
it never worked in 12.04.

2012-08-06 Thread Nils Durner
Update: it got much better with the precise-proposed package. I was able
to print 8 print jobs before the printer hung again, and another four
jobs after resetting the printer (by pulling the plug), with the
connecting-to-device message only appearing once (without any problems
on the printer's side).

[Bug 1032385] [NEW] USB timeouts with Canon iP4300

2012-08-02 Thread Nils Durner
Public bug reported:

Most of the time when I try to print to my Canon Pixma 4300, only a
fraction of the page actually gets printed. Sometimes the desktop
notification connecting-to-device is shown. The printer just hangs
then.

Noteworthy log entries with $ cupsctl LogLevel=debug:
---
D [02/Aug/2012:22:28:13 +0200] [Job 47] Got USB transaction timeout during
write.
D [02/Aug/2012:22:28:13 +0200] [Job 47] Wrote 7680 bytes of print data...
D [02/Aug/2012:22:28:13 +0200] [Job 47] Got USB transaction timeout during read.
---

The same printer and cable used to work with Oneiric and continue to work with
Windows Vista.
Things that did not help:
 - blacklisting usblp
 - switching the printer language from PDF to PS
 - changing paper format from A4 to Letter
 - lowering resolution
 - removing and re-adding printer
 - TurboPrint

- plugging USB cable into a different USB port did not help
- CUPS status on http://http://localhost:631/: Rendering completed
- even if the print job is completed successfully, some lines on the page are
missing (between 4 and 10 lines on an A4 page).

[Bug 623708] Re: duplicate files/directories when mounted

2012-01-25 Thread Nils Durner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 823775 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823775

Happened out of the blue (don't remember if I did an online update
yesterday) to me on Oneiric today: logged in, had an empty desktop saw
lots of ECRYPTFS_ objects in my Personal Folder. Rebooted, all files in
the standard folders seemed to be gone. At closer inspection, I noticed
that all those folders were duplicated.

#20 fixed it, thanks!

[Bug 879845] [NEW] Ubuntu would not boot after update to Oneiric

2011-10-22 Thread Nils Durner
Public bug reported:

The update process to Oneiric reported that it was unable to update grub.
Now, the boot screen is just black with a blinking cursor, no traces of grub or
the kernel.
