[Bug 1859926] Re: fonts-noto-color-emoji not making pretty emojis in google chrome

2020-05-03 Thread Pacho Ramos
I think this is the same as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-noto-color-emoji/+bug/1770783

This was fixed in webkitgtk:
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191976

But still not solved in Chrom* and Firefox:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=908541#makechanges
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1509988

Also, fontconfig upstream discourages to use play with conf file as suggested
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/fontconfig/fontconfig/issues/136

[Bug 1862960] [NEW] pepwheel: Generated svg files are moved

2020-02-12 Thread Pacho Ramos
Public bug reported:

The generated svg file is completely different in pepwheel from ubuntu and the
one from Gentoo. I am unsure if it is related with some patches we are applying
in gentoo... but in Gentoo I think only the plplot could be related:
https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/sci-biology/emboss/files

Or maybe is one of the patches applied in Debian/Ubuntu :/

As an example, simply run pepwheel -seq ... -graph svg with this file
$ cat pepwheel.seq
>
KWKSFIKKLTKKFLHSAKKF

The proper svg file in pepwheel run in Gentoo is as the attached one,
while in Ubuntu all letters get moved

Thanks

[Bug 1770783] Re: Noto emoji should provide a fontconfig file to prioritize emoji fonts

2018-11-25 Thread Pacho Ramos
I still see emojis being shown partially in some pages, for example in
the same https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029661/18-04-color-emoji-not-
showing-up-at-all-in-chrome-only-partially-in-firefox

the icon in this comment:
"I fixed it - I had to follow these instructions from 2016  I had to create
~/.config/fontconfig/conf.d/01-emoji.conf with the following text:"

is not shown with color emoji

I am not sure if this is maybe caused by 60-generic.conf only setting
noto color emoji for emoji and not other families

2011-08-08 Thread Pacho Ramos
Personally I don't think people wanting to create a launcher to run a
custom program will know that they will need to run gnome-desktop-item-
edit to create a launcher. Isn't there any easier way to generate a
launcher? Even creating it as a menu entry for gnome-shell/unity and
then dragdropping it to the desktop (if enabled) (not sure if it's
allowed as I am still using Gnome 2.32)

I was able to fix this from seahorse, but don't remember exact steps
:-S (I am also using Gentoo)

If I don't misremember, I right-clicked on all keyrings to block them,
then, I opened evolution and, when it asked for a password, it offered
me the option to unlock it at login time. I would suggest you to play
with seahorse a bit :-)

Good luck!

[Bug 34043] Re: Nvidia binary driver requires Option NvAGP 1 for reliable suspend/resume

2009-02-25 Thread Pacho Ramos
I also need NvAGP set to 1 even on a different distribution (Gentoo).
The problem is that it will force the usage of NVIDIA AGP that won't
work on all motherboards. On these motherboards that doesn't support
(like mine), GPU GART (- internal, and slower, AGP) will be used. Then,
suspend will also work, but permormance will also decrease

In my case, the problem seems related with agpgart-amd64 (provided by kernel)
not being able to resume properly, I have tried the following using NvAGP=3 or 2
1. Switch to a console - Ctrl+Alt+F1
2. Run pm-hibernate
3. Resume, it will resume ok to console
4. If I check /var/log/messages or dmesg (sometimes this depends on
distribution), I will see a lot of errors related with AGP and, if I switch
back to X (Ctrl+Alt+F7), I will get the freeze

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-06-26 Thread Pacho Ramos
Is fully disabling Power Manager really needed? Wouldn't it cause some
problems related with overheat or short battery lifetime?

Seems that my hardrive is now using 128 value:
# hdparm -I /dev/sda | grep Advanced
Advanced power management level: 128
   *Advanced Power Management feature set
# smartctl -a /dev/sda -d ata | grep Load
193 Load_Cycle_Count0x0032 090 090 000Old_age Always -
218785
# smartctl -a /dev/sda -d ata | grep Power
  9 Power_On_Seconds0x0032 076 076 000Old_age Always -
  12338h+14m+13s
 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 099 099 000Old_age Always
- 5498
192 Power-Off_Retract_Count 0x0032 098 098 000Old_age Always -
  569

218785 doesn't seem a bad value, after reading man hdparm:

-B Set Advanced Power Management feature, if the drive supports it.
A low value means aggressive power management and a high value
means better performance. Possible settings range from values 1
through 127 (which permit spin-down), and values 128 through 254
(which do not permit spin-down). The highest degree of power
management is attained with a setting of 1, and the highest I/O
performance with a setting of 254. A value of 255 tells hdparm
to disable Advanced Power Management altogether on the drive
(not all drives support disabling it, but most do).

Power save should still being enabled. Could it be related with me using
reiserfs instead of ext3 for / ? :-/

[Bug 216397] Re: sdl patch for better pulseaudio support

2008-06-07 Thread Pacho Ramos
Other option could be check fedora's src.rpm, seems that they are using

# Temporary hack: Use pulseaudio via esd so SDL apps don't lock up when they

# 1) SDL's pulseaudio support is working natively without problems
# 2) it conditionally switches to pulseaudio or ALSA automatically

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-03-11 Thread Pacho Ramos
Seems that laptop-mode-tools should fix this as read in Changelog:
-Set HD power management values to 254 instead of 255. Some hard drives go into
no power management mode only on 254, while 255 yields some kind of default
that you don't want.

[Bug 194825] [NEW] Text location field doesn't work

2008-03-07 Thread Pacho Ramos
Public bug reported:

Text location field doesn't work and, for example, when you try to go to
/home it simply do nothing

Steps:
1. Choose create a new data CD
2. In the local file browser (in left panel) click on the button for being able
to write a patch
3. Put, for example, /home and press enter

Nothing happens, it should go to /home

I found an upstream bug report, but seems that doesn't have much activity:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465175

Thanks a lot

2008-01-07 Thread Pacho Ramos
Just, sent. Affected file in gnome-menus sources is

(kicker preferences, kwin preferences), other qt apps (like k3b,
kconverter, konqueror, kopete...) are not affected by this

I have just sent this to upstream:

Thanks :-)

[Bug 174674] Choose the proper screen resolution in consoles

2007-12-07 Thread Pacho Ramos
Public bug reported:

My monitor has 1280x1024 as common resolution. X uses 1280x1024 as
expected, also usplash chooses it, but consoles (Ctrl+Alt+F1,
Ctrl+Alt+F...) doesn't use proper resolution. Also seems that
framebuffer is not being used.

For example, openSUSE set properly resolution for consoles to 1280x1024

This is the options that opensuse is using:
title openSUSE 10.3
root (hd0,7)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz
root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3200822A_4LJ1A992-part8 vga=0x31a
resume=/dev/sda2 splash=silent showopts
initrd /boot/initrd

[Bug 173149] No icon is shown in notification area while update-notifier is checking for new updates

2007-11-30 Thread Pacho Ramos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-notifier

While update-notifier is checking for available updates, I don't see any
icon. Icon is only shown when check finish and, then, an icon appears
notifying me that there are new updates.

I would prefer that also an icon were shown while it's checking for
updates because, when network is slow, I cannot install packages and for
a newbie user this would be a bit extrange because there is no other way
to know what is blocking deb database except running ps axu | grep
update

For example, openSUSE 10.3 update notifier works as I am suggesting now
:-)

Thanks a lot
