[ubuntu-in] Mumbai LUG meetup

2013-11-11 Thread Rigved Rakshit
Hello,

Date: 17th November, 2013 (Sunday)
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Venue: Directiplex, near Andheri subway, Andheri (E), Mumbai

This meetup is part of the Mumbai Tech meetup. As part of this meetup,
the other events are a workshop on iOS development from 9:00 a.m. to
11:30 a.m., followed by the Mumbai LUG meetup. Then, the Mumbai Python
and Mumbai Javascript meetups will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00
p.m.

There will be around 2 hours available during the Mumbai LUG meetup,
so if anyone wants to take a session of 15-20 minutes, just let me
know. Each session will have an extra 10 minutes to discuss the
topic(s) of the session. This way, we can cover 3 sessions in 90
minutes. If any company working on a FOSS stack would like to take a
session spot, they are more than welcome to do so.

In addition to those sessions, we will also have the Spotlight
session, focusing on on a GNU/Linux distro. This can be covered in the
remaining 30 minutes. So, anyone interested to showcase a Ubuntu
distro can come and take this spot. Ubuntu 13.10 (with Unity) has
already been covered during the Ubuntu Release Party held last month.
So, any other distro like Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu etc. can be
covered.

Wifi will be available at the venue. Few laptop charging points are
available. So, if someone has an extra spike guard, please do consider
bringing it along.

Hope to see you guys there!

Rigved

[Bug 1198639] [NEW] Unable to add nodes to MAAS Server running in VirtualBox

2013-07-07 Thread Rigved Rakshit
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release:12.04

maas-enlist:
  Installed: 0.4-0ubuntu1.3
  Candidate: 0.4-0ubuntu1.3
  Version table:
 *** 0.4-0ubuntu1.3 0

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 0.4-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages

Expected Outcome: The client node should be enlisted on the maas master.

Actual Outcome:

I have followed the tutorials here
(http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs/install.html) and here
(http://marcoceppi.com/2012/05/juju-maas-virtualbox/). My MAAS master
server (running Ubuntu 12.04 server) is already set up in a VirtualBox
VM. I have not installed DHCP on this server as I already have a DHCP
server on my LAN router. I am also able to access the MAAS web-interface
from my host Ubuntu 12.04 desktop machine's web browser. However, when I
try to add nodes to the MAAS server by using the Multiple Server
Install with MAAS method of the Ubuntu 12.04 server ISO, the node does
not get added to the MAAS server. For clarification, the node is also a
VirtualBox VM.

After the network auto-configuration step of the installation process
has completed, I am presented with the following options:

* ubuntu-maas-master MAAS Server - (192.168.1.105:80)
* Specify MAAS by name or address
* Create a new MAAS on this server

So, I select the first option (ubuntu-maas-master MAAS Server), which is
the correct IP address of my MAAS master server VM.

After this, the client node VM sigkills all processes and shuts down.
The client node is not added on the MAAS master server. On the MAAS
master server, I can see this error message in /var/log/maas/maas.log:

Re: Starting kernel module programming

2013-03-27 Thread Rigved Rakshit
I want to begin with kernel module programming and also contribute to the
community on the way. So please help me with how to start and proceed.

TLDP is the correct resource. You should also join this community:
http://kernelnewbies.org/ , especially their mailing list as it has people
like Greg-Kroah Hartman on it!

[Bug 1146171] [NEW] Wallpaper does not change to the current user's wallpaper when selecting the admininitrator user at the login screen

2013-03-04 Thread Rigved Rakshit
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu Raring Ringtail (development branch)

  Version table:

Expected Outcome: At the login screen, when selecting a different user,
the wallpaper should change to the currently selected user's wallpaper.

Actual Outcome: At the login screen, when selecting the administrator
user, the wallpaper does not change to the currently selected user's
wallpaper.

This used to work in 12.10. Now, I upgraded to 13.04. When selecting the
admin user, the wallpaper changes and shows the old wallpaper which I
was using in 12.10. It does not show the new wallpaper which I am using
currently. I have even tried to change the wallpaper to the default
(warty-final wallpaper). Still, at the login screen, it shows the old
12.10 wallpaper.

PS: This bug is different from LP: #975758 . This is because I do not
have a separate /home partition. All in one / partition.

[Bug 254978] Re: [needs-packaging] Panda3D graphics engine

2012-06-13 Thread Rigved Rakshit
Devel builds for Precise are also up now on the website:
http://www.panda3d.org/download.php?platform=preciseversion=develsdk

Plus, they already have .debs for the other Ubuntu versions:
http://www.panda3d.org/download.php?platform=ubuntuversion=1.8.0sdk

Here is a cheatsheet which I followed to get Panda3D to compile on my
Ubuntu 12.04: https://github.com/PeteX/friendlyfruit/wiki/Building-
Panda3D

One problem is that some of the third-party plugins which Panda3D uses
are not available in Ubuntu. So, there is a need to package those first
or they will have to be included inside the Panda3D .deb (like fmodex
which was mentioned earlier).

[ubuntu-in] Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin Release Party

2012-04-24 Thread Rigved Rakshit
Hi everyone,

Ubuntu 12.04 will be released on 26th April, 2012 (Thursday).

The Release Party will be on 6th May, 2012 (Sunday) at 3:00 p.m. (The MI
match will start at 4:00 p.m., so I thought we should meet up before the
match. Then, people can enjoy the match too)!

The venue is Cafe Coffee Day, Inside Reliance TimeOut, Hill Road, Bandra
(W), Mumbai. This is near Elco Shopping Center. I have heard that this CCD
has wi-fi, in case anyone wants to try a Ubuntu install.

Registration URL: http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/indian-team/1742/detail/

Re: Missing File

2012-04-23 Thread Rigved Rakshit
This morning I tried to upgrade my Ubuntu 11.10 to the Ubuntu 12.04
 beta2-desktop-amd64, which did not work.

I went into the Terminal and typed in this Line.
         ''sudo do-release-upgrade d;''

sudo do-release-upgrade -d

This command will only work after Ubuntu 12.04 has been released,
which means after 26th April, 2012.

I tried this several times, both using and not using the - between words
like it is Printed in the PDF I downloaded from the Ubuntu Web Site last
evening.  I also tried it with and with out the ; at the end of the Line.

The only result I got was a Line that said no upgrades found''.  I know the
File has been released, because I downloaded a copy of it last evening
also.  I do prefer to use the Automatic Upgrade, because it has worked so
well on Ubuntu before, and saves so much time re-installing and configuring
 Software.

If you want to upgrade now, before the official release, then you can
do the following:

sudo apt-get update
gksudo update-manager -d

The update-manager window will open up. It will show the 12.04 is
available. Click the upgrade button to upgrade to the 12.04 beta
version.

Please direct such Ubuntu support questions to the ubuntu-users mailing list.

Best Regards,
Rigved Rakshit

Re: Controlling menubar title on Ubuntu 11.10?

2012-03-15 Thread Rigved Rakshit
Hi,

For a dialog, you can do this via:

dialog.setWindowTitle(tr(New Dialog Title here));

assuming that you have set the necessary macros for 'tr'.

Documentation: http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/qwidget.html#windowTitle-prop

Please note that this is a C++/QT-specific query and as such, should
be directed to the appropriate forums/mailing-lists/IRC channels.

Hope this helps!

Rigved Rakshit

On 3/14/12, Nikos Chantziaras rea...@gmail.com wrote:
(I initially sent this to ubuntu-devel, but it didn't make it through.)

 Hello.

I wrote an application that, at startup, prompts the user for a file
(using a standard open file dialog). Ubuntu 11.10 takes the title of
that dialog (Choose the file you wish to play) and uses it for the
rest of the application's session. This is wrong of course. The menu
bar should display the application's name.

Is there a way I can control the title of the menu bar?

The GUI of the application is written using Qt.

[Bug 923355] Re: live-build example auto/config script has a typo

2012-02-24 Thread Rigved Rakshit
I have attached a debdiff for version 3.0~a24-1ubuntu26, which includes
the fix for the typo in examples/auto/config. The file cron/live-build-
cron-images does not exist in the source package; so that typo cannot be
fixed.

** Patch added: Fix typo in examples/auto/config script

** Patch removed: debdiff of the version in precise and the version in the
live-build launchpad trunk

Expected Outcome: The code under the Quickly 11.12 User Guide Using
Dialogs Clean up the Dialog section should contain a reference to the
Gtk.ResponseType.OK constant.

Actual Outcome: The code under the Quickly 11.12 User Guide Using Dialogs
Clean up the Dialog section contains an incorrect reference to a
gtk.RESPONSE_OK constant. Using this constant gives the following error:
NameError: global name 'gtk' is not defined
The sample SaveDialog.py script clearly mentions that it will return
Gtk.ResponseType.OK or Gtk.ResponseType.CANCEL on the click of the respective
button (Ok or Cancel).

[Bug 923355] Re: live-build example auto/config script has a typo

2012-02-01 Thread Rigved Rakshit
Yes. The patch includes fixes for other issues as well. If required, I
can create a separate branch which fixes only this typo and ask for
review. Should I do that?

Yes, this bug has been fixed in the version of live-build in trunk on
Launchpad. This version in trunk is also the latest version in upstream,
which also has the fix.

Here is the link to the page where I saw the issue fixed:

I saw the problem when I tried to use the example auto/config script to
build a live image.

[Bug 915271] Re: package libreoffice-core 1:3.4.4-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: rmdir: failed to remove `usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.4/program/': Directory not empty

2012-01-15 Thread Rigved Rakshit
I get a green loading bar (instead of the Ubuntu orange) and the
Libreoffice About window displays the message about the missing git
binary (I know that git is not installed on my system). This does not
feel integrated into the system. Unless the change from orange to green
was intentional.

I tried re-installing libreoffice-gtk and libreoffice-gnome, but this
did not solve the problem. I also tried installing libreoffice-gtk3,
still did not work.

[Bug 916177] [NEW] Libreoffice 3.4 failed to upgrade to 3.5 because the pre-inst script was unable to remove /usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.4 folder

2012-01-13 Thread Rigved Rakshit
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu precise (development branch)
Release:12.04

libreoffice-base-core:
  Installed: 1:3.5.0~beta2-2ubuntu2

 *** 1:3.5.0~beta2-2ubuntu2 0
500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expected Outcome: Libreoffice 3.4 should upgraded cleanly to Libreoffice
3.5 using apt-get dist-upgrade.

Actual Outcome: Libreoffice 3.4 failed to upgrade to Libreoffice 3.5 because
the pre-inst script was unable to remove /usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.4 folder.
This is because the basis3.4 folder was not empty. It had one folder called
program and a hidden file. By manually removing the contents of the basis3.4
folder and running apt-get dist-upgrade again, the upgrade process proceeded to
completion.
Note: I only removed the contents of the basis3.4 folder, not the folder
itself. Otherwise, the dpkg upgrade process got stuck again and complained that
/usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.4 did not exist, so cannot removed.

Sorry, I take my earlier comment back. It seemed that the Software
Center was working fine. But no, I can only search applications and view
their info, screenshots etc. But when I click on Install button, nothing
happens.

I followed the instructions that you posted. I can confirm that the
